As usual we had a fantastic holiday at Secrets Maroma Beach. The staff are always brilliant and they seem to be improving further on daytime activities and upgrading their accommodation although the noise was minimal and this did not impact on our holiday. Our only complaint was that the food wasn't up to the same standard as previous years as is the reason we gave 4 stars instead of 5. The quality of the meat was not good in any of the restaurants, the steaks were poor and one pork rib had to be returned as it was 90% fat. The fish courses and Asian food were all good. The only issue with the Asian restaurant was that we had to wait 90 minutes to get a table. If we had known it was this long we would have gone elsewhere. The beach is fantastic and is probably the best beach we have ever seen, powder white sand free of seaweed and a warm aquamarine sea. The entertainment was generally good especially the duo playing for the Beach Party, the Beatles Tribute and the Rock Concert. We didn't like the Elvis impersonator who was more concerned with soliciting screams and clapping than singing like Elvis, particularly when he insulted 1 lady in the audience, not good. This is the only resort we would ever return to.

Wonderful Vacation & Engagement!

I traveled with my boyfriend (now fiance!) at the end of June 2017. When trying to decide where to book, the long reviews gave us the best insight! So I wanted to share our thoughts/experiences in more detail as well...be warned...long review incoming! TLDR: Beautiful resort. Good food/drinks/entertainment. Wonderful Staff. Would recommend! From the moment we arrived at the resort, the service was amazing! We were greeted with champagne and check-in was a breeze. Afterwards, we met with one of the concierges (Josephine?) to go over the resort amenities. This is where they will try to convince you to attend their timeshare breakfast presentation for the next day, but a simple "no thank you, we're not interested" ended that conversation. They'll go over the $200 resort coupon available but we did not use any since you can only use $20-$40 at a time (for spa treatments, bottles of wine or private dinners on the beach). FOOD: Overall, we thought the food was great for an all-inclusive! We enjoyed every meal we had. We already knew to book the Japanese restaurant right when we got there, but even then the only reservation available was one night at like 9pm, so we passed. Our favorite meals were actually during lunch at the Seaside Grill. It's a nice break from the pool/beach. We ate so much ceviche (so fresh!). For dinner, we ate at portino, oceana, bordeaux and el patio (ranked in order from our most favorite to least favorite). Note that oceana is an outdoor restaurant so BEWARE OF MOSQUITOES!!! We were attacked like crazy. Once the sun had set, we had to run up to the room to get the complimentary mosquito repellent (which is awesome of them to provide!). Drinks: We thought for the most part the drinks were tasty (especially from the lobby bar). They did seem a bit watered down by the pool/beach bars. If you want a double shot, just ask! Service: Absolutely amazing! Everyone is very friendly and said Hola or Buenos Dias whenever we walked by. If you ever need anything, the staff is very accommodating. While tips are not required, we always tipped whenever we received a service. The staff works so hard, especially in the summer heat. Room and Concierge: We were in Building 16 (which is in the middle between the lobby and beach, so we thought it was perfect!). We did not book as part of the preferred club and did not feel like we missed anything. Overall we thought our room was wonderful and had everything that we needed. The bed is comfortable. The shower did kind of have a beachy smell, and I'm sure you've read in other reviews that the toilet door is frosted and has an open hole as a handle. Not much privacy but we got a few jokes out of it, haha. A very very special shoutout to our concierge Rogelio!! He helped my bf plan a wonderful surprise proposal right under my nose! He always recognized us by name and made us feel very welcomed and comfortable during our stay. Beach/Pool: We split half our time at the pool and the other on the beach. The beach is beautiful! The water is so clear. Very easy to relax just listening to the waves crash. Yes, there was some seaweed on the beach, but it was not that bad compared to other resorts we've been to. The staff works hard to clear out the seaweed as best they can. The only thing I didn't like was that the beach vendors (selling jewelry or cigars) would actually walk through the cabanas asking if you'd like to buy anything. The pool is nice, typical of an all-inclusive resort. The ambiance is a lot more chill than others. During our stay, there weren't any rowdy groups and most of the time the music is pretty low key. There is some time in the afternoon where they'll be playing more upbeat music. People do save lounges with towels early in the morning, but even when we'd arrive ~9-10am, there were plenty of lounges available. Resort Activities: There are so many things available for you to do throughout the day if you're interested. Zumba, Tennis, Dance Classes, Volleyball and more. We did a bike tour, which was just okay. It was hot and there were a lot of mosquitoes when we got to a jungle-y area. The foam party is SO much fun! They have life size chess, ping pong tables, mini golf and "soccer" billards. Typically when we go on vacation, we'll book an excursion or two but we found plenty to fill our day at the resort. Also, I recommend downloading the resort app! You can look at the schedule and look at the restaurant menus ahead of time on your phone. Oh yea, wifi was available throughout the resort and we did not have any issues with connectivity. You could even get connection out on the beach depending on where you stayed. But note, that you're limited (free) up to only 3 devices per room. We had to plan which electronics accordingly, haha. We only went to two night shows (fire show and water show). The fire show was amazing!!This is the 5th all-inclusive we've stayed in Mexico (Cabo and Cancun). It is one of the more expensive resorts that we've stayed at and debated whether it would be worth it or not. Overall, we thought our stay was pretty close to perfect and would recommend it anyone! It was definitely worth it to us! If you've made it this far, thanks for reading!

Exceeded Expectations

You never know what you may end up with on an all inclusive, the primary concern being the food. I have never stayed in an all inclusive with such wonderful food and 5 star service. Our favorite restaurant was the French and Himitsu (we ate their once Hibachi and once sushi/Thai menu). The world cafe was a wonderful option for breakfast and lunch. So many options to choose from. Every employee was so kind, there wasn't one person we passed that didn't say hello. Our concierge failed to book our reservation at the Hibachi and we were afraid we were not going to be able to go but they exceeded our expectations and gave us our own table. The beach is wonderful and they do a phenomenal job of keeping up with the seaweed. I'm not sure why anyone would have negatives about this place. They are people, things happen, but they right their wrongs. Activities we did xcaret and playa shopping off site and did the bracelet making, Beatles show, Mexican folklore show, sunrise kayak, and jungle bike tour. Our favorite waiter was Darwin at the Italian restaurant he taught us some mayan language and was always smiling.

Amazing vacation at Secrets Maroma!

We just returned from Secrets Maroma and had an amazing time. We had a party of 16 and the hotel was able to get us all in the same villa (26). My wife and I stayed in a Preferred Club Junior Suite Swimout and it was beautiful - sunlight hit our pool all day. Our concierge Roberto was very attentive and went above and beyond to make our stay incredible. He was awesome!Accommodations were great, food was great, entertainment was great, staff was great. We will definitely be returning again!

AMAZING

Secrets Maroma exceeded our expectations. The service and friendliness of staff is top notch! The restaurants were excellent and evening entertainment was great. Our favorite evening was the mini concert on the beach. We were truly impressed how hard the staff works to make everyone's trip enjoyable. Don't forget to tip!! It goes a long way. The grounds and hotel were very well kept, although the hotel is older, it just felt more authentic. We did a vow renewal on the beach and they made it feel very romantic and special, thank you for the beautiful memories! The beach was fabulous and felt very private. No complaints! Oh and VIP was worth it! We can't wait to go back!!
