Our Opinion

Much like its sister resorts, Secrets Capri and Secrets Maroma, the Secrets Silversands is luxury all inclusive at its finest. Top notch service and excellent rooms and facilities. The beach is nicer at the Secrets Capri, but all in all this is still an excellent resort. Like all Secrets, this resort is adults only, so families might want to look at the Dreams Resorts which are also related to the Secrets properties.

Gun shots on Beach

Staff was wonderful! Food was good, but we both got severely sick two days apart. $500 later, I was able to go home. On our anniversary, Nov. 14, we were having lunch, and we heard shots! Apparently, someone came from Preferred Beach area and started shooting. Hole in railing at Beach bar. Turf war, drug related? It did put a damper on our holiday. I love the beach, and now too afraid to go on it and to swim. I wouldn’t go back to this area. Secrets Capri and Secrets Huatulco are so much nicer and safer.

Wonderful Anniversary Trip

My husband and I spent 10 days at SSS in August for our anniversary. This was our second visit to this resort in six years. We have visited several all -inclusive Caribean resorts and SSS ranks among the best.Highlights:This resort is only a 20 minute ride from the airport. We arrived just as hurricane Franklin was winding down. Despite the heavy wind and rain the resort was beautiful! The morning after our arrival, the groundskeepers were out in force and by mid-morning, you would never have guessed anything had happened.Check-in was quick and painless. No one ever mentioned anything about visiting another resort or sitting through a presentation. They did ask us to meet with someone after check-in was complete but we were anxious to get out to the pool, so we didn’t. We never heard another word about it.We upgraded to a preferred swim out room. We were very happy that we did. Our room was in a very private/quiet location. Everything was immaculate. The room was cleaned at a consistent time each day. The breakfast buffet Is amazing. Mar, the hostess is wonderful and very friendly. She will remember your name and room number after your first visit. The selection of prepared food is vast and slightly different from day to day. In addition, you can have eggs prepared to order and smoothies prepared on request. We enjoyed starting every morning with mimosas here! There are numerous delicious restaurants. We visited every one (some twice). We had amazing meals each time. I love Portofino and El Patio . My husband loves Bordeaux and Himatsu. Alejandro at El Patio was the best waiter that we had while we were there. We visited this restaurant on the night of our anniversary. He made a special strawberry dessert at our table for us and prepared a happy anniversary plate to serve it on. We returned on our last night and he did the same - bananas foster this time! (see pictures). The spa is beautiful and relaxing. I had a 90 minute stone massage. My husband accompanied me and we arrived hour early to enjoy the hydrotherapy circuit, sauna and steam room. The staff here are second to none. Everyone is friendly and will bend over backward to provide assistance to anyone who needs anything. We are generous tippers, but many people do not tip at all, and there was no noticeable difference in the service that we received and the service that was received by those who were not tipping. We always try to get professional photos taken when we travel for our anniversary. The year our photographer was Juan. He was wonderful. He worked very hard to get the “perfect” photos. We ended up buying many more photos than we planned to because they were so beautiful. I highly recommend having this done to commemorate your trip. There isn’t any charge unless you buy the photos. The cost of photos is very reasonable. They will put the images on a CD for you and you can print them when you return home from your trip. The preferred lounge is a great place to pick up pastry and coffee in the morning if you do not plan to eat breakfast, or for a snack/drink in the late afternoon. They have copies of all of the restaurant menus there that you can review is you are having difficulty choosing where to dine.We met Roger Carillo the front desk manager at the manger’s reception. When I mentioned our names, he remembered that I had emailed him (several weeks prior) to ask a question. He knew exactly what room we were in and that we were celebrating our anniversary. I was VERY impressed! He told us if there was anything that we needed to contact him and he would make take care of it. We never contacted him because we did not have any need (can’t imagine what anyone could need beyond what they provide here). But Roger’s offer made us feel very special and valued! The shows and nightly entertainment are very good. We did not attend every night, but when we did we thoroughly enjoyed the shows and the live entertainment at the bars. We had a late afternoon return flight. We asked for a late check out and we were accommodated. I am sure that had something to do with the fact that we were there in August, and not in the most busy season, nevertheless we appreciated the chance to enjoy most of the morning at the pool, eat lunch and return to our room to shower before heading out to the airport. Drawbacks:I hate to even include anything negative, because the positives far outweighed the negatives here, but there were a couple of minor things that are worth mentioning. As noted in most reviews, there is a great deal of seaweed on the beach. There is also coral on the edge of the water, which makes entering the ocean without water shoes very challenging. However, once you get in, the water is beautiful! It is possible to walk out quite far into the ocean. The water is warm and relatively calm. We enjoyed it every day!The drinks are a bit watered down. We found this to be true at every bar that we visited. When we requested doubles it was a bit better. I got up early every morning and went out only the patio to respond to emails from work so I would not disturb my sleeping husband. I got bitten multiple times by mosquitoes while out there. It took me a few days to realize when the bites were happening and to figure out why I was bitten but my husband was not. Once I started applying bug spray the problem was taken care of.Tips:During the manager’s reception you can get great deals on spa treatments. Just ask Miriam, the spa representative who is there. She will book the treatment that you want at a greatly reduced price. If you take the kitchen tour you will have opportunities to taste something at each stop on the tour. If you have eaten lunch, you probably won’t be hungry for the samples. If you try all of the samples, you will be too full for dinner, unless you eat late.We left a note in the mini-bar (with a tip) letting the person who refilled it know our preferences. It was filled perfectly every day!We do not like to visit the gym when we are on vacation, but we do like to exercise some (so as to minimize the impact of all of the calories that we consume). We walked/ran the perimeter of the resort early every morning before going to breakfast. Four times around was 3 kilometers. We enjoyed seeing the resort when there were few people up and about. It was quiet, peaceful and beautiful.Be careful if you sit on wet lounge chairs. When we first arrived, my husband sat on the lounge chair outside our room. It was damp when he sat on it. Later, I noticed that there was a huge spot on the back of his shorts that had been bleached out. I am sure it was from sitting on the chair. The cleaning crew must have cleaned the chair with a solution containing bleach at some point and not rinsed it completely off. This wasn’t a huge deal, but if it had happened when we were dressed for dinner in nicer clothes, I would not have been happy. There were not any handles on the exterior of the sliding doors that exit onto the patio from our room. I found that the wooden incense burner was the perfect tool for wedging into the door to open it from the exterior. Bring lots of sunscreen. It is available in the gift shop, but it is expensive. The sun is intense and plentiful. If you need a magnifying makeup mirror to put your makeup on, bring one. The rooms do not have them. If you like floating around to pool, bring your own pool float. Although there are many, you can’t be guaranteed of getting one when you want it. We always buy cheap inflatable ones and leave them behind with other guests when we go home. I highly recommend USA transfers for private transportation to and from SSS. We have used Amstar many times in the past, but on the recommendation of others in reviews of SSS we tried USA transfers this time. We were very pleased with the service that we received from USA transfers at a fraction of the price that we typically pay for Amstar. We absolutely love this resort. It is hard to capture every wonderful aspect in a review, but, as I said at the outset, it is a resort that I highly recommend. We have already booked a return trip for March. We are bringing our adult children with us this time to celebrate my husband’s birthday and we are counting the days!

Amazing Honeymoon

We have never been to Mexico or an all-inclusive hotel. This was unlike anything we have ever done, and we loved it. Daily activities all day long, including shows every night, all included. We highly recommend doing the Preferred Members upcharge, which is essentially a VIP pass to certain things, including special concierges and a private lounge. The special concierge desks were our go-to when trying to figure things out and plan events. There were other perks as well, such as breakfast in bed and coupons for the resort amenities, alcohol upgrades, and priority on bigger rooms (we got a huge corner room with ocean views).

Absolutely Amazing!

We just got home from spending an amazing two weeks celebrating our honeymoon at Secrets Silversands. From arriving at the front desk to our final goodbyes with some of the resorts amazing staff, we never could have asked for anything more. We were treated like royalty by all. Some of the staff that stood out and made our honeymoon so special are, Mar, the hostess at World Cafe who always had a smile when she saw us, and helped us with our daily Spanish lesson. Thank you Mar. Jesus was our first contact with a Secrets Silversands employee, he helped us with our luggage (a whole bag just for the Mrs'. shoes) and showed us where everything was located. Cesar the Preferred Club concierge is one of the funniest persons we have ever me, and was extremely helpful with any and all questions we had. Prax the PC host helped us with getting our "honeymoon" door banner, it might seem like a small thing but it did make it so much more memorable. The last person that we want to thank is (and since we hardly if ever saw her) we never caught her name is the housekeeper for the Honeymoon Suite 3422, our room was always impeccably clean. The food was amazing (I gained 5 pounds) our favorite restaurants were Bordeaux and Seaside grill. The hotel has several pools, the main pool is where all of the activities are held and has a bustling party flair to it, but the resort also has several low-key pools where you can relax and read without being disturbed. This was our second vacation at a Secrets resort and just booked our next vacation to Secrets Papagayo in Costa Rica.Thank you Secrets Silversands for making our Honeymoon so MEMORABLE! We will be back.
