Secrets Silversands Riviera Cancun
- What's Included
- All Inclusive Features
Much like its sister resorts, Secrets Capri and Secrets Maroma, the Secrets Silversands is luxury all inclusive at its finest. Top notch service and excellent rooms and facilities. The beach is nicer at the Secrets Capri, but all in all this is still an excellent resort. Like all Secrets, this resort is adults only, so families might want to look at the Dreams Resorts which are also related to the Secrets properties.
Pros: staff are great, food service and wait staff fun and friendly, fun atmosphere, beautiful at night, restaurant food was pretty good, great coffee snack bar, lots of food optionsCons: our room and outside smelled like raw SEWAGE! Rooms need to be better maintained, definitely getting run down. housekeeping didn't take away any of our empty bottles of water or soda from mini fridge for 4 days, lower lobby area is a mix of perfume and moldy/must smell, beach is very rocky and full of seaweed. Overall our stay was fun, but it was overshadowed by the awful smell by building 6 (where our room was). It literally takes your breath away and you have to breath through your mouth. They put incense in the rooms, I'm sure to cover the smell, but it only slightly helps. The restaurants were good. It was nice to go without a reservation! They had a hard time accommodating our group of 8 though and we had to split up each night into two groups of four. Not a huge deal. They were decorated well and looked clean and modern. The beach is soft if you move away from the water, but at the shoreline is rocky and full of seaweed. It was hard to even get in. The pools were nice. They were all salt water. There are a couple quiet pools, an infinity pool and then the party pool with swim-up bar. We had a blast at the pools. The wait staff was attentive and made sure you always had what you needed, regardless of where you were hanging out. The rooms are definitely showing signs of wear. There were dents and dings all over. The wall and ceiling were dirty and the bathroom glass into the shower looked like it had never been cleaned. The sinks didn't look a lot better. Kinda gross. The bed was comfy. There were ants on my nightstand. Luckily, I brought disinfecting wipes and after I wiped it off, they didn't reappear. I'm guessing the guests before us spilled food or soda and it didn't get cleaned up. Won't likely return to SSS (because of the smell) but we had a great time while there!
Me and my husband just got back from Secrets Silversands and it was one of the most amazing vacations , we've had !!!Weather was beautiful , I kept checking the weather from home weeks before we went , they kept saying rain for every day ... nothing ever happened !!! Friday morning it rained for 10 minutes , so instead of starting with mimosa on the beach , we started at the Barracuda bar .I have to say the only one thing what was disappointing was the front desk's attitude . We got there Sunday afternoon ( 10/16 ) , checked in very fast and easy , no pushy trying to upsell so that was great , but than they pretty much let us on our own , explaining which way to go , and nobody gave us a tour , of course we were lost in 30 seconds . Every day we've seen people getting full tours , so we figured the front desk lady didn't feel like asking anyone ... oh well no biggie . But than again at checking out (10/23 ) , we went up the night before to ask what time should we put our suitcases out for pick up , and the lady at the desk answered with an attitude instead of saying " oh we don't do that " ... but they did , so that was all done . I just mentioned it because we thought it was weird seeing people dragging their own suitcases , and we never saw that at any other resorts . It's really no big deal tough and would not bother us in the futureFood was absolutely amazing every day , we had dinner 4 times at Oceana , it was awesome , 2 times at Portofino , same awesome , and one time at the Ratatouille , which again was awesome !!! Breakfast buffet was always great and plenty of choice !!! For lunch we just hopped up to the Barefoot grille ( always awesome !!! ) , so we didn't have to worry about getting changed and wasting time from hanging at the pool or beach Pools were amazing , we hang at one of the quiet ones , since we love to read and relax , but we also hang a few days at the beach too . We are normally beach people , but unfortunately there were a few days when we couldn't get in the water because of the sea weed . This did not make us not loving this resort at all . Service everywhere was amazing , we tipped them all , pool and beach service was always on top , dinner , breakfast always fast and professional . Everyone had a smile on their face all the times . Room was beautiful , and always clean , we loved finishing our days and watching the sunset on the balcony wit a corona in our hand Absolutely loved , loved , loved everything and would recommend this place to everyone !!! We will be back for sure !!!!Thank you all SS staff for making our vacation amazing !!!
Secrets Silversands is a beautiful resort in the Cancun area. It is roughly a 20 minute ride from the Cancun airport. The resort is well kept and the employees went out of their way to make sure we had an enjoyable time. Bar staff at the swim up bar really hustled to keep the many customers happy. We enjoyed the various restaurants and meals we had. We'll be back!
This once magnificent ultra modern luxury resort hideaway is beginning to see it's age. While still oozing with modern flair the resort amenities are in need of up grading. The beach/pool/bar chairs are uncomfortable and need to be replaced. The chair cushions in the common areas are dirty and need cleaning. The rooms though still large with charm need to be freshened up. There was a distinct mouldy odor to the rooms when you enter. The resort is well laid out, with buildings surrounding a center common area, which makes getting to the restaurants and other resort amenities a quick easy walk. The common areas are well maintained and cleaned by a energetic staff. The beach area is small and narrow with a good selection of payapas for shade. The beach/water itself is difficult to utilize with lots of drops in the water. The biggest issue is seaweed. The beach and entrance to the water is covered with seaweed daily and though the staff make a valiant effort to keep it clean and accessible there was a 3 day period where you could not enter the water due the mass amounts of seaweed. As a note this is not just a problem at Silversands, the 3/4 properties that share his section of beach in Puerto Morales have the same problem. The beach chairs are hard plastic without cushions and no matter how many extra towels you have, they are difficult to stay on longer than 30 minutes at a time. Beach service is excellent and Amanda and Monica look after you very well. The main pool is very busy and loud all day, with more than it's share of inebriated adults, watched an adult gentlemen relieve himself while sitting in a chair in the barefoot grill while having lunch, first time we have ever experienced this. Since the property is relatively small and the pool is located in the center of the resort you cannot avoid the din. The restaurants are abundant - 7 in total. Buffet breakfast/lunch is only average with nothing special available. Asian looked like the most popular and with only one teppanyaki table reservations are required to be booked early in the morning as soon as the concierge desk is open. We did not try this restaurant so cannot comment on service/food. Barefoot grill is a good lunch choice with lots of options. Oceanna Restaurant acts as the seafood/steak house restaurant ans chances it's menu nightly between the 2. Nice location in middle of resort. We ate there with the steak menu and 3 of 4 got gastro issues, one was severe. Mexican restaurant had nice atmosphere, great service, food was poor, over cooked and tasteless. Portafino had nice atmosphere, fair service and food was fair. Mediterranean has no atmosphere as it replaces the buffet at suppertime. Service was good food was fair. 2 of 4 got gastro issues, one severe. Bordeaux was fantastic. Service from our waiter Adam was the best by far at the resort and the food was the best.Bar service is non existent unless you sit at the bar. The BARACUDA bar is a beautiful bar overlooking the ocean, with a nice ocean breeze blowing all the time, but chairs/lounges though visually attractive in design are some of the most uncomfortable we have ever sat in.It was my decision to try Silversands, as it looked appealing with it's modern concepts smaller size and design cues. The resort does not live up to its pictures like the other secrets resorts do. This was not our favorite resort and I would not recommend Secrets Silversands to my friends.
Decided to go for a long girls weekend and just returned. Didn't start so great, but wound up nicely. Resort is close to airport so after an early long day of travel you don't have far to go. However, check in was a nightmare despite the fact that one of our group is a points owner and therefore should have had an easier transition into the hotel. The front desk was NOT very helpful, we basically had to badger our way into our reserved rooms, and didn't finally unpack until 6 pm (having arrived early at noon for a 3 pm checkin) which made us a bit cranky. So Day 1 down the drain. It got significantly better from there. In terms of the overall resort, the size is very manageable and well laid out with lots of little nicks and crannies for relaxing and enjoying a refreshing drink. The grounds are well maintained although not overly lush or flowery. There are several pools, some of which are smaller and quieter, if that's what you prefer (I do), and of course there is the big zoo bar, loud music, drinks in the pool and games all day if that's your thing you've got it here. The beach is small but nice enough, never needed to search for a chaise, but did find a lack of shade, the only option was tiki trees and those were in high demand. Given how strong the sun is it would have been better to have more of those scattered on the beach or throw a few umbrellas into the mix. They were constantly clearing seaweed from the beach so I would imagine that's a problem if not attended to, but they were diligent in cleaning. Water the first day was cloudy but cleared up nicely after that. It's a rocky beach so when the water is cloudy it's easy to trip over the rocks! We wound up with preferred status as a way to make up for our miserable check in, which was nice, although I didn't see great value if you had to pay for this status. Out check-out was significantly easier however since we were preferred so that's something to consider. We were in building 2, I understand 3 & 4 are the better buildings for preferred, direct ocean view, more updated etc. The rooms in 2 are nice but a bit neglected, certain things don't work (I was in 2 different rooms and sliding glass doors never locked in either, had TV issue in first room, light didn't work, dirty mirrors, etc.). The first room I got was on the dirty and dark side, but they switched me the next day and 2nd room was on 4th floor with an ocean view which was a nice improvement. The beds are great, very comfy, and there is virtually no noise heard from the other rooms. Bathrooms are big and comfortable.Restaurants were very good, service excellent, starting with the breakfast buffet, various spots for lunch and dinner. The only exception for me was the hibachi dinner, which quite honestly I hated (but generally I never care for this experience), room was small and hot, cooking area way to close to the patrons, and the food not good. Had no complaints in any other restaurant, and if you ask they will make you dishes not on the menu, with a good deal of grace. We upgraded our wine every night, as the house wasn't very good, particularly the Red, you can live with the Chardonnay in a pinch. Try some of the Mexican wines, they are a pleasant surprise at an affordable price, and often have discounts. The gym was small but very clean and functional. We didn't partake of any spa services so I can't comment. Limited shopping but I still managed to spend some money, especially in the jewelry store! Several weddings were going on each day but they were not intrusive and it was actually a pleasure to watch the nuptials from our spot on the beach. Age range was very varied, mostly couples, and a pleasant crowd. I think a mix between Europeans, Canadians and States. Entertainment varied also, different shows each night, bands, and a disco for those who would like to shake their booties later in the night, we finally got there on the last night and had a blast. Unfortunately there was a terrible odor coming from the bathroom that was making us all gag (didn't stop dancing) and really this had to be addressed!! Overall, it was a pleasant experience. I probably wouldn't return, would try one of the other resorts next, but I returned from vacation relaxed and feeling as though it was a good time. Enjoy!
