Don't usually write reviews but thought it would be handy to leave a little review of the pro's and con's for people thinking of visiting this hotel - which I definitely would! PROS:- The decoration and design of the whole hotel is amazing not one inch of it was shabby or dated, all the restaurants had fabulous design which tied in with the particular type of restaurant and our room felt like we were the first people to use!- There's something for everyone, if you want to be loud and drink then you can go somewhere and if you want to be chilled and peaceful there's somewhere for you- The staff are all really nice, just walking through the hotel everyone says hello, makes you feel really welcome and start your day off with a smile- The restaurants are a good standard although there were a couple we didn't like the majority serve nice quality food and a lovely experience our favourites were Dorado, Hunters Steakhouse & Teppanyaki. The buffet is also amazing quality!!- The beach is lovely, staff are lovely and the food you can order there for lunch is fantastic and really easy!- If you are staying in the Hideaway definitely go to the Dorado restaurant for breakfast it's delicious with a fantastic view, for dinner it is also fantastic, some of our favourite meals were there, a waiter there, Raymundo was brilliant and made us feel like we were in a really high class, luxury restaurant - what a superb waiter. - The entertainment was great, if you can find a seat (which is quite difficult after dinner) it's even better but every night we watched the entertainment and really enjoyed.CONS:- When we checked in we definitely were not told enough - we haven't been to an all inclusive hotel before and to be honest we should have asked more questions but we were told hardly anything and felt like rabbits in headlights as at first it is quite overwhelming! We didn't even know that our wrist band was our room key!! We also weren't told that you could go to the Dorado restaurant for breakfast we just went in to have a look after breakfast and they offered us a table! We weren't told there can be quite a long wait for tables at the restaurants and we weren't told you could just go to the Teppanyaki restaurant on the night and get a normal table, we were only told you had to book at 3pm. So this was a little disappointing as we felt like we had no idea what was going on and it took us a few days to get into the swing of things.- They didn't always fill up our fridge or restock our lotions etc which was quite annoying- Before the holiday and on the way we were told to only tip if we have received an excellent service, however in some parts of the hotel we felt like this wasn't the case and unfortunately felt a bit ignored until we had tipped- this should not be the way it works. You shouldn't have to tip in advance to receive good service. This happened on the beach for example - not with every waiter- where we were, for the most part ignored whilst other guests were getting constantly visited and asked if any drinks were required we would be missed out, however this changed once we tipped, a little disappointing but worth knowing if you are going!- With the beach, there is a lot of seaweed, however we did go in it every day and at first thought it was lovely and wondered why all the reviews were negative about it but throughout our trip the water became very dirty and a bit smelly so we stopped going in as much towards the end- The Mexican restaurant and the Italian restaurant we personally thought were not the best, some of the dishes were a little underwhelming and we did not visit againOverall we had a fabulous time and loved the hotel, some of the workers really stood out to us and were the loveliest people and now we know what we are doing we said we would definitely go back again to this hotel. Definitely recommend the trips with Tui they were fabulous - (we did Sailing Isla Mujeres and Turtles and Tulum). Thanks!
All the staff especially the pool staff was amazing .Special thanks to Esteban Espinoza for his special care of us.The management team needs to reevaluate their process in selling their travel club/ time share as guest we should only have to decline once.

I have just returned from a 14 night stay at the Hideaway at Royalton Riviera Cancun. I will also be reviewing the Royalton Riviera Cancun (which is part of the same resort) separately as my experience here was quite different to that of the Hideaway. The Hideaway is the adult only section of the larger Royalton Riviera Cancun resort and consists of three adult only designated accommodation blocks, a separate pool, one adult only restaurant and a secluded part of the larger beach within the bigger hotel. Rooms are accessed using bracelets rather than keys which was a novel but ingenious as it avoided keys not working or getting lost etc. I was staying with my husband, although we travelled with our two friends and their children who were staying on the Royalton side. My experience at the Hideaway was on the whole good although I feel that there were small details that let the hotel down. I'll start with the positives and follow with the areas for improvement:The good:*The accommodation at the Hideaway was lovely. We stayed in a Luxury Junior Suite room 3312 with a balcony overlooking the Hideaway pool (an additional $60 USD paid in advance to secure this specific room) but the alternative options would have been a room overlooking the mangroves. The room was open plan and had a Queen-sized bed which was extremely comfortable, a small couch, dresser, double wash basins and mirrors, a WC, a hydro bath and a double rain shower. The room also had a minibar which was topped up regularly with soda, beer, water and snacks, a coffee machine, hairdryer, a safe, iron and board, bathrobes and slippers. We did not have optics/wine in the room nor the enhanced minibar as these were reserved for Diamond Club members and would have been at an additional cost. *Service was also on the whole great. Check in was smooth and efficient and our room was ready on arrival. We were asked when checking in whether we were on vacation for any special reason (which we were). To our surprise there was a bottle of sparkling wine on ice waiting for us when we arrived at the room along with some fresh fruit. The next day on our wedding anniversary another bottle of sparkling wine was left for us along with a 'Happy Anniversary' banner on the door, some strawberries in chocolate and petals decorating the bed. This was a lovely and unexpected touch. Staff were generally polite and attentive. *The Pool and Beach were also very nice. The service at the Hideaway pool was top notch and both the waiters and general staff were very attentive, whether this was taking and delivering drink orders, providing towels and preparing sun loungers. Elizabeth was particularly helpful. The beach was cleaned regularly although there was some seaweed as other people have pointed out. This was not a big issue for me and did not detract from my ability to enjoy the facilities.*Entertainment at the Hideaway was also good. We attended a number of the evening parties (such as the Caribbean grill and the Champagne party) and enjoyed these very much. A highlight of the holiday for me was the Foam Party after the Champagne party on a Tuesday night which was a lot of fun!! Daytime activates were low key but available if you wanted, which was perfect for me. Areas for improvement:*Dorado restaurant was something of a disappointment. We ate here twice, once in the evening on our anniversary and once for breakfast. My evening meal was pleasant enough although the lobster special at $35USD each was pushed repeatedly as was the C/X Culinary Experience at $80USD per person. My husband thought the Calamari tasted a little 'fishy' so didn't eat his as a precaution. The breakfast was also less impressive. I ordered scrambled eggwhites and banana and Nutella pancakes. Unfortunately the pancakes came without bananas or Nutella and the scrambled eggs were actually fried eggwhites dripping in grease. I wasn't able to eat the eggs and didn't return to the restaurant. *Concierge service was not much use and was mainly about selling the 'Diamond Club' timeshare. We were pestered a few times about taking the 90 minute 'resort tour' which was to show what was available if you booked Diamond Club and was apparently a special because of the hotel's anniversary but I doubt this was the case. In exchange we were offered an additional $100USD resort credit to be used on a romantic meal, in the shops or on a massage. If we presented our credit cards we could also gain access to the weekly raffle for other items. Needless to say we politely declined on both counts. We were also supposed to receive $120USD of resort credit on arrival that included discount coupons on SPA treatments, a romantic meal and bottles of wine. We actually were given this after about 5 days, at which point I had already booked a SPA treatment so couldn't make use of the voucher as it wasn't presented at the time of booking. *While our room was cleaned regularly, it wasn't always to a high standard. The floor was regularly left wet or unmopped, toiletries were not replenished regularly nor were we given a bath mat on most occasions so ended up using hand towels to avoid slipping on the marble floor. I also requested more coffee pods and waited a week for them to be replenished. These are not huge issues but like I said, 'the Devil is in the detail...This was my seventh visit to the Riviera Maya and as a seasoned traveller to the area have stayed in a number of resorts in the area. On the whole, the Hideaway was nice, but I personally wouldn't rush back here. This is more to do with the wider Royalton resort than the Hideaway specifically, but those points will be covered in a separate review.
Our January trip at the El Dorado Seaside was a gourmet experience. However, at the Royalton Hideaway (even with the Diamond Clube) we’ve not been overly impressed so far with the 6 restaurants except for the steak at the Hunter Steakhouse and Beach Club Grill (Caribbean cuisine). We’ll see this evening with the sea food grill at the Dorado. Even if the Hideaway section is for adults only, the buffet section and most of the restaurants are for the whole family.R
