Our Opinion

The Tukan is a resort that is suited for travelers who are budget conscious and are solely looking for a place to stay that is in a prime beach location. The hotel is located very close to a stretch of beach with plenty of restaurants and entertainment centers. It can get a tad loud in this area, so the hotel would be best suited for travelers who are impartial to loud nightlife. The rooms are well-maintained and modern. There aren't many great food choices if you're looking for an all-inclusive deal. However, this is great for someone who wants to explore more of the Riviera Maya away from resort grounds.

El Tukan

The hotels website is miss leading!!!!! It offers kool beach... thats a lie!!!! Was very disappointed. The room was ok smelled of sewer. Beds were ok to sleep on small hard pillows. Air conditioning was a plus. It was right on 5th ave. the big plus for this hotel.

Nice Surprise

Was right on 5th, close to shopping and the beach but far enough off the main to be fairly quiet. Staff were great. We added a few days and the all inclusive, which was a little on the high end, but workable. Pool area was small with limited recliners, another give up at three to get a seat. The beach club service sucked and they would not serve you, you had to go get your beer. Would likely go back all things considered. Nice to see the Mariachi bands again, absent from a number of our Mexico trips.Cheers,

Very loud STAFF!

We were well aware this wasn't a 5 star place, and in fact, we were surprised how nice it was, given the price and some reviews. Things are basic in rooms, and the place is aging, but grounds and pool are nice. Only real complaint with the room itself was the bed being too hard, which is common at cheaper hotels though I guess. Many reviews talk about this place being too noisy, due to its location in the heart of the action in Playa, but we didn't find that too bad, except for the odd party group returning at 3, 4, even 5 AM very loudly, but of course that's not the hotels fault...What is their fault, and is the loudest and most obnoxious amount of noise is the STAFF. DO NOT stay in room 304!! Right outside is the maid closet, and they start around 6 am, and make NO effort to keep it down, slamming doors, loudly chatting, banging and slamming. It's absolutely ridiculous! We leave today, and I have had poor sleeps all week, and today was the worse, they began loudly scrubbing the pool deck right outside our room about 7!! I feel the most UN-relaxed I ever had after a vacation! Every single morning about 7 they start slamming the lounge chairs around, every single morning... they make no effort whatsoever to keep it down for the quests at least, at all!! I'm well aware that Mexicans start their days early. Mostly to beat the heat, however the entire reason they have jobs here is because people come down to relax and spend money, and the staff here need to start realizing sleeping in a little, at LEAST having a peaceful morning wake-up on ones expensive vacation, is VERY important to some people, and to start having a little respect for their guests in the AM. A decent rest is WAY more important to my happy stay than a swan folded out of my towels everyday!, Loud hotel staff have just about unanimously made this trip unenjoyable, thanks a lot. Stay anywhere but Tukan hotel.

Excellent Location if you want to be in the Heart of 5th Ave!

Our stay, my mom (77) sister (53) stayed here from Jan.26th, 2017 to Feb. 2, 2017. Overall it was a good experience and the large beautiful trees and greenery makes you feel so relaxed and like you are in a jungle. We got a super cheap deal off of TripCentral (travel broker for Air Canada Vacations and others) for $765 CDN which included Air direct from Vancouver, BC, all taxes and airport shuttles. We did not get the Breakfast or All Inclusive Plan. ROOM DETAILS: Very large decks, we got upgraded to a suite (no charge) so we also had a hammock on our deck and a separate huge entrance area when you walk in with shelves to put all your stuff and it had a couch which made into a foam bed. Then there was a door that could be closed in between that room and the other main room with 2 queen beds, tv, etc.-Hskp service was excellent! room was always cleaned immaculately! They also gave us an extra warm blanket for my mammasita :) Every day we had animals made up from towels, beautiful work!-Room had 4 cup coffee maker (we walked over to the Oxxo store around the backside of the resort and bought 6 ltr jugs of water for 30 pesos-don't drink the water, there is also a water cooler in the lobby. It also had a safe (which there was NO charge for it), hairdryer, closet type area to hang clothes, large flatscreen tv, ceiling fan, ac, and also we asked for a mini-fridge, which we got and they did not charge us for it and even delivered it to our room. The ONLY 2 negative things on our RM 518 is that there was a lots of noise nightly due to the entertainment from 5th Avenue and the music from the Living Bar right below us. It did stop nightly around 11pm, once your balcony was closed you could not hear much, but we liked to have it open at nt for fresh air. Also the other negative thing was walking up and down the stairs-no elevator, it was a workout some days with your hands full and the heat. If you are a smoker, you are allowed to smoke on your patio :) just bring your own ashtray for they do not supply them. No phones in the room. POOL: Lovely area that makes you feel like you are in a jungle with breathtaking greenery all around you. Only a handful of loungers, but had no problem getting one. The Hot Tub or what they call it, is not hot like what we are use to, it is cool water, but nice to sit on the side and wade your feet it. They also have a outside shower there.LEGENDS SPORTS BAR: We got a welcome drink upon arrival-fd gives you a coupon, strawberry daiquiri for me, nummy! We only ate there our 1st night and had fish and chips and it was the BEST ever, took a bit to get our food, but hey we are on Mexican time, we were in no rush for the 7 days! FYI-When you walk out the backside you will go threw a security entrance, they get to know you and they are just looking to see if you have a wristband on and if you belong there or not, they are friendly!THE LIVING BAR: Excellent clubhouse sandwiches- they allow take out to your room also if you are not up to eating in. FD gives you a coupon for a free drink which is Mojito-super strong, but delicious. GREAT spot to just hang out and people watch 5th Ave!LA CIEBA: 100% buffet only, no menus. We ate there 2 times, lunch and breaky. Costs about 140 pesos roughly (if you are not with the breaky or AI option). Lunch was ok, but breaky was really good!KOOL BEACH CLUB: We went there on our last full day. We bought our package from the front desk the night before. There are various prices to what you pay depends on where you want to lay on your lounger. We got ours for 450 pesos (2nd row of loungers in from the beachfront-excellent location). Would highly recommend! You pay the price and how it works is you go to the club (about 15 min walk) and then you get a print out of a credit (onsite at the info desk) for what you paid for (450 credit per head). We had a large breaky, AWESOME, excellent lunch, cerveza, and also they offered us a FREE cocktail-your choice, because we were staying at the EL Tukan, pina colada it was! BEYOND EXCELLENT SERVICE at your lounger, they were always walking around asking if you needed anything and yes, you can smoke at your lounger-a plus for us smokers. It was fantastic! The aqua there is crazy prices so we walked around the corner to Oxxo and got a bunch of water for the day. Only negative thing: they automatically charge you at the end 15% of your total credit (ours was 1350) for a tip. It is mandatory that you pay, was not really impressed by that for they do not tell you, but it was worth the day of luxury and treated like royalty! Sorry for the long review, but I myself find trip advisor the perfect place to decide if I will go to that place or not. I faithfully write reviews and review reviews. Every little bit of info helps. Tidbit: Just over a block to the left side of the hotel facing 5th Ave, there is a little store that sells coconut water in front, CHEAPEST place to buy 40litres of Kaluha-180 pesos and also Tequila-500 mls-63 pesos! If anyone has any questions please do not hesitate to message me! I will be more then happy to help out fellow travellers! And btw, yes, I would stay here again :) NOTE: There are Federala Policia that carry machine guns that walk and drive around often, you will see them everywhere. DON'T WORRY, it is their culture there. You get use to them, we even got our pic taken with 2 of them! In a heartbeat I would go back to Playa Del Carmen!

Downtown Playa

This hotel is very well located in the middle of all the action....We were premium all inclusive guest in room 312...Room was ok except for shower which need to be redone...Yes we did ear lots of noise during the night (Light sleepers beware) Food in restaurants was good....Kool beach club was very very nice....Living Bar had super drinks and beer all with premium liquor....I would go back at a reasonable price....See you soon if the Price Is Right.
