An excellent hotel, with great amenities and service. Nice beach. Good for families and couples.


The wonderful Club Marival (right side of main photo) resort is located directly on a beautiful beach in the Nuevo Vallarta area, close to the Los Flamingos 18-hole golf course. Guests can enjoy the facilities and services of both the Club Marival and the adjacent sister hotel, the Grand Marival.

Location: Beachfront, 25 minutes to Puerto Vallarta, 15 minutes from the airport, and close to various golf courses.

Home away from home

A. Compliments(1) Night Shows - excellent quality, variety, family friendly, active engagement of audience, professional and polished, fun, memorable, entertaining(2) Teen Club - very nice upgrade; our kids loved it(3) Food for kids (Marival Kids buffet) - much more food safe; good variety, staffed well; chocolate fountain was a hit; popcorn was great(4) Casa Bella -- nice tile and white iron coverings; night time crepes were awesome; loved the stir fries; meringues and tarts were delicious. Tex Mex and Oriental nights were great. Pineapple and papaya were delicious.(5) Green Program - great start; Is the organic waste separated from "regular" garbage for composting?(6) Water safety with Kayaks -- limiting the time of day and needing to do a water safety course was a pleasant surprise. Safety first!(7) Spa - great experience as always(8) Wi-Fi - access in the rooms in the tower is appreciated.(9) Check Out - appreciate flexibility for late check out(10) Kids Club - iron chef was fun!!(11) Bungy Trampoline - nice addition to activities(12) Cleaning - sweeping and mopping of resort food areas was very noticed and appreciated.(13) Falcon pest control program - much appreciated(14) Ice Cream -- was much harder than previous years. This is a good change.(15) The pools were nice to be warm(16) MIguel at La Bamba and Leocadio for Casa Bella are amazing...hard working, friendly, always putting the guests firstB. Improvements(1) La Bamba - pop machine --> place fine netting or mesh to prevent bees from going up the spouts(2) Gym - free weights --> two more sets of 10 lb weights; implore all staff to encourage care of space and equipment; new signs to communicate this ... sign in form and agreement to condition of use of the space and equipment.(3) Teens Club -- buy some new table tennis and tennis racquets. Ensure that all staff follow sign out procedures and implore that guests take care of the equipment. More board game selection. Repaint the surface of the air hockey table.(4) Beach/Pool Towels - need clarity and consistency of towel sign out and return procedures. The card system seemed to work well before ...(5) La Bamba -- with the change of how the side dishes were served, need more staff to handle table service ... especially, changing plates, drinks, etc.(6) Time Share Presentation invitation - give a guided tour of the whole facility with drinks in hand and a welcome "package" ... then invite them to a presentation. Right now, the way registering is currently handled is off-putting. People are tired after traveling ... pressuring guests to attend a presentation is not welcoming and not a great way to start their Marival experience. (7) Dinner reservations -- need to be better explained and advertised.(8) Initiate a "Daily Physical Activity" (DPA) program for guests ... they can earn Marival points/dollars for participation in water pool activities, playing tennis, going cycling, walking, classes at the gym, using the gym, kayaking, boogie boarding, dancing at the night club, etc. Marival has great facilities but guests don't seem to know what is available.

Fair value for the dollar

Bar tender named Baldo working in the swim-up bar in the pool next to the adult pool was awesome. Other service was hit and miss, primarily because language was a barrier. Food was acceptable. Location was nice on the beach. Free use of bikes was fun. Reviews stating that non motorized water toys were included is not entirely accurate - we had limited access to some of the water toys. Beds were hard (and I love futons, so that gives you a sense of how hard the beds were!).

Beautiful Location is the Best I Can Say

We might have gone to this resort with too high of expectations because they definitely didn't meet them. This was our first time at an all inclusive resort so we don't have anything to compare it to but we had picked this location because it was voted one of the top 10 resorts for families in 2016. I will say that we loved our room; it was a 2 bedroom suite and we were on the far end of the resort grounds away from the swimming pools so for the most part it was very quiet. It was on the top floor (3 stories up) and they did not have an elevator so luckily no one in our party had a disability. They didn't ask us or even tell us this but it could have been a problem for an older couple or someone who had children stroller age. The only time it wasn't quiet was between 7:00 am and 9:00 am when the people who worked at the resort would use the sidewalk outside our room as the Indy 500 to push their very loud carts up and down delivering food and supplies to the pools and beach over and over and over again (please imagine loud, clacking noises, repeating at nausea). I would have been more appreciative of this fact had the food and service been good. It was not. The service is non-existent - they do NOT deliver food, drinks or anything to your chairs. They do NOT help you move a chair, umbrella or anything even if they have them (and sometimes they don't). If you ask for help they will say no, they can't. I couldn't even get a towel from the towel woman since I didn't know how to say towel in Spanish. She just glared at me until I sent my husband over who can speak Spanish. The BEST was he asked her if she had towels and she said yes and just stared at him. Then he asked if he could have one and she acted like it was the biggest inconvenience ever! They also have pretty mediocre food. You are only aloud a dinner reservation for 3 nights no matter how many nights you stay there (we did 6 and most of the other people we saw complaining about this fact that no one shared when booking the hotel reservations were also staying for 6 or 7 nights). Couple that with 2 of the restaurants being closed for private parties and 2 being booked for the entire week meant we only got 2 dinner reservations. Every other meal is buffet. And not very good buffet. Really just barely ok buffet. AND if you go to one of the snack places to eat that are open until midnight, don't expect to get the food they say they have. We went one night at 10:00 when we returned to the resort after a day in Puerto Vallarta and they had run out of the food we wanted. I asked if they were going to get more since they were still supposed to be open for 2 more hours and they said no (while looking at me like I was crazy). The only good meal we had the entire time we were there was the last night when we got a dinner reservation at La Pergolla. The food AND service were fantastic but it seems they do not feel the need for any of the other places to copy this restaurant. The only other reservation we were able to get was at the Mexican Food restaurant and some of the food was so bad I couldn't eat it. One other thing to note is that the pool bar closes at 6:00 pm so you have to go into the hotel to get a drink and bring it back out to the pool. The first night we arrived at the hotel we didn't get out to the pool until 6:00 and there were 100's of people still in the pool and enjoying the sun but the hotel does not care about providing any service to their paying customers. So, in the end, if all inclusive hotels offer mediocre food, zero service and could care less about you once you arrive, we will NOT be doing that again! I'd rather pay for good food and good service any day of the week!

Beautiful Property , Disrespectful service

We have been travelling to Nuevo Vallarta for a few years now and it has become our destination of choice and we thought we would try a highly rated different resort this Easter Break, The resort itself is very nice, the 2 bedroom suite we had was amazing and clean, tidy, well stocked and with 2 balconies it was excellent. Pools and pool area were excellent and clean, there were lots of amenities and activities that the kids were happy to do and stay busy, the pools were never overcrowded, the beach here is excellent with warm water and beautiful fine sand. Easy access to boogie boards etc. The restaurants were good, breakfast was well layed out and there were ample waffle/crepe/omelette people there to accommodate which were very polite and helpful, the food and the service at Amalfies restaurant was exceptional and the food was amazing, I can't say enough about the service, personability and atmosphere at Amalfies. UNFORTUNATELY this is where the review turns to disappointment, I have never before complained at a resort about service nor have I ever written a bad review before but I feel obligated to share our detrimental experience. We were told upon arrival by a representative of another resort and a tour operator that this is Passover and it is a very important Mexican holiday and the Mexican people will take priority, we kind of brushed this off as we have spent Christmas at a resort just down the beach and the treatment at Christmas was stellar as you would expect at a resort. This was not the case at the Marival, Each bar we went to whether it was a swim up bar or the Pizza restaurant Bar or the bar in the main lobby(I need to exclude La Bamba as there were no service issues there) we were ignored, my wife literally asked at the bar for 2 glasses of pepsi for our kids and the bartender said no and walked away. I stood in the lobby being the only person at the bar for 5 minutes while the bartender completely ignored me until I went to the concierge and asked if there was something wrong with my wristband and voiced my displeasure with the service and treatment. Concierge went and was quite animated with the 3 servers and the bartender that were standing there visiting and not helping and 1 1/2 days into our vacation I had a waitress bring me my first beer- this was also the last drink that we were served at any of the bars. waiters/waitresses would come by and take our orders but we never did receive drinks, We would stand at the swim up bars and be the only person in line and when Mexican people would walk up they were served first. Our little girl who is 6 years old was standing in line to get here face painted and the staff took the Mexican children from behind her over and over again until my wife went up and stopped them. I am Canadian and where I come from people are people and race/ color of skin/ the language you speak is irrelevant, I have never before experienced discrimination and been treated as a second class citizen prior to Going to the Marival, I really would like to think this is a one of and this can't be the norm but It will definitely deter myself , my family, and anyone I ever meet from going to the Marival ever again. I told the concierge that I would love to tip his servers and bartenders but need them to interact with us even remotely to do so. Like I said we have travelled all over, Punta Cana, Jamaica, Cancun, Tulum, and Nuevo Vallarta and never been treated like second rate people, and paid to be treated this way. We had planned on being in Nuevo every year and probably will but never again at Easter and never again at the Marival.

Repeat visit to Marival

Spent 7 days at the Marival in April 2017. this has been our 7th visit. Always enjoy the variety of pools and restaurants. Special mention should go to Luigi at the Amalfie Italian restaurant, excellent food and service. At the Casa Bella we enjoyed Esther Platas great service. Met up with friends who have been repeat clients.Great beach for our daily walks.Will go back next yearPeter L. Kelowna, BC
