An excellent hotel, with great amenities and service. Nice beach. Good for families and couples.
The wonderful Club Marival (right side of main photo) resort is located directly on a beautiful beach in the Nuevo Vallarta area, close to the Los Flamingos 18-hole golf course. Guests can enjoy the facilities and services of both the Club Marival and the adjacent sister hotel, the Grand Marival.
Location: Beachfront, 25 minutes to Puerto Vallarta, 15 minutes from the airport, and close to various golf courses.
You know how it is when you go someplace new and enjoy it and then go to another place that is 100 times better? That's the way this place is, but it's like the first place you visited because you don't know any better. Trust me on this, there are so many other choices and better places in Nuevo Vallarta and most are less expensive and provide better, well, everything. To give you some background, this was originally a Jack Tar Village, one of the first all-inclusives in Puerto Vallarta. That was 40 years ago. Back then the food was awful, the rooms barren (not even TVs), drinks were poor, there were very few kids there, but it was a new concept and we loved it. What's changed is they added a building onto the property, there are a million kids now, that's about it except they refreshed the rooms just a bit. Everything else is basically the same. Check in was OK, taken to a dank room, requested a different one, got it. Bellman was great, front desk was just OK. Room itself is nothing out of the ordinary, few amenities, and I was in the newer building. You have to pay for WiFi which is outrageous at an all-inclusive. A router would cost them about $500 to serve the entire property. They charge for room service, most of the others in the same price point do not.Pool areas are overrun with kids. Why? You can take up to 3 kids for free. Ugh! The pools are not huge for a property of this size. It's nearly impossible to get a lounger unless you go out very early and snag one. Noisy at the major pools, OK at the adult pool but be prepared for kids in the adult pool. They don't enforce it and the parents don't care. No drink service at the pools or beach although nearly every other all-inclusive in the area offers it. Drinks are awful and bottom of the barrel cheap. For what you pay here, you would think they would it at least carry rot-gut Cuervo. Nope. And weak drinks too. But service from the bartenders was good, so I'll give them that. Of course I tipped when I first got there so they would remember me and they did.The food is OK, nothing you would go out of your way for at any restaurant. And it's always just warm, never hot. Buffets were the best of the choices, want a specialty restaurant? Get up early and try and sign up. Then go down to the restaurants at 7 or 8 p.m. and look at all the empty tables they told you were sold out. That's what happened every single night. Every night. So we did eat at the Italian, it was OK. If you are a solo traveler or you are a couple that wants to get away from it all, this is not the place for you. If you have low expectations and want to pay a premium price, have a gaggle of kids you're going to haul along, then this is your place. And you can also tell the employees aren't happy here. It shows. Want to buy a time share here? No problem! You'll be asked more than just a few times. My advice is to pass on this place. For less money, you can stay at the Riu Palace, Riu Jalisco, the Iberostar, or any of the many newer resorts that gives you an exceptional experience, better food, better drinks, better rooms, better entertainment, and quiet areas with 24 hour food, drinks, and service. This place just doesn't cut it compared to the others, especially for the price. I would challenge the repeat visitors to stay at one of the other properties mentioned and see what they're like.
we always enjoy our stay at the Marival. Good food, friendly service.Cristian Arpgure at the Amalfi Restaurant was very pleasant to deal with, always helpful and smiling. At Casa Bella Esther Mesero recognized us after not seeing us for a year and greeted us warmly. She is always friendly and helpful. At La Bamba Erika, Gladys and Ramon were there to greet us with big smiles every morning and to serve us special coffees and get our days started on a positive note.I could name others but don't remember all the names.
This resort is great if you have children, but I would not recommend it for singles or couples. The grounds and rooms are clean and well maintained and the workers were always friendly. There are plenty of pool chairs if you get out early and save them in the morning, by lunch time Every chair was saved (typical of all resorts). The Hot Tub is nice and is supposed to be restricted to only Adults, but that rule is never controlled filled with children swimming and playing. The beach is beautiful and we had so much fun playing in the sand and waves. The kids club is a life saver if you are a parent that wants some alone time - the kids loved going and participating in all the varied activities. They provide free bikes that can be rode to next town over (great bike trails most of the way) The buffet food is mediocre with long lines to get the cooked or sliced food. We had to wait in line for over an hour to check our reservations to the ala carte restaurants only to be told that none of my on-line reservations were accepted (booked online a week in advance). The biggest food issue is that almost everything is served barely warm even when we got to the buffet right when they opened (does not open until 6:30 for dinner). They did have a nice salad selection and the varied fruits are plentiful. Breakfast is only good for the items that they cook in front of you, the rest is cold and/or greasy (and I'm not a real picky eater). The one breakfast ala carte restaurant is very good - just don't expect to get served fast. The dinner restaurants are very great if you get a favorable seating time (we mostly got stuck with 8:30 or 9:00 which is too late for kids). The free house wine is awful but they have a nice selection of quality wines that are sold at very reasonable prices (only at the ala carte restaurants). If you tip the pool bartenders, you get great service, but they have limited drink options and crappy liquor. If you order beer through room service, the price is reasonable and you get bottles, otherwise it is some no-name tap beer. By the end of the week, I didn't want to drink anything but bottled water or soda pop due to the head-aches from the cheap liquor (and I didn't drink as much as I usually drink on vacation). The nightly entertainment was too late to attend with the kids at 8:30 – with the adult show at 9:00 (other than the Mexican fiesta) so I can’t comment on that quality. Because we went with family and stayed in a 3-bedroom suite, we did have a good time together, but by the end of the trip, I couldn’t wait to get home - with no plans to return to this resort in the future.
The resort was great especially if you have kids. If you happen to be there when Adriana is at the kids club supervising, then your children will be in great hands. She was amazing with our kids and they loved her. We instantly felt comfortable with her and so did our kids which allowed us a couple of hours of freedom! They did so many activities and can't stop talking about our trip. Thank you Adriana!
We were on a family reunion vacation. The kiddie pool was ideal. We had a balcony with a great view of the beach. The rooms were clean and spacious. There were a variety of restaurants. The food was quite good.It was disconcerting to be sent right over to a time share salesman when we checked in, under the pretence of having him describe the hotel amenities. We did listen to the presentation and it did not end up to be hard sell.My daughter had a safe in the room that needed a part from the conscierge to work. This was not explained and her diamond rings, worth $7500. were stolen from the room.Of course, the hotel is not responsible!
