Dreams Villamagna is located on a nice stretch of beach and is surrounded by swaying palm trees and free form pools. Most tour operators rate the resort as 5 stars but recent negative feedback leads us to believe that it has gone downhill compared to the high standards of other Dreams resorts. There are probably better 5 star options in the area such as Riu Palace Pacifico, Marival Residences and Now Amber Resort. Hopefully the Dreams Villamagna will get back to the high standards that travelers expect from Dreams Resorts, but until that time expect this resort to be more along the lines of a 4 star resort.
Spent 2 weeks here in September as a couple celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary. Flew with Thomson's on the Dreamliner which was great. Entrance to hotel was open plan and quite surprising, just plain, nothing luxury about it at all, lobby bar here too. Check in fast and friendly. First room we were shown to had noisy generators below the balcony, as we like to sit on our balcony and read before dinner or use the whirlpool this was a total no no. Went back to reception and asked to be moved. Had to pay £200 for an upgrade to sea view room. The room itself was probably one of the best we have stayed in aesthetically, really spacious with a huge bed and plenty of room to move around. There was a mini bar that was replenished daily and a safe. We were disturbed at least 4 times around 4am by staff collecting room service dishes etc from outside the room. (There is a hatch that you put your dirty glasses/dishes in for collection and I feel 4am was an unreasonable time to do this.)Our main problem was the food, there really was very little choice and the food was never warm. The buffet was the smallest we have ever experience in all inclusive. We tried some of the restaurants for lunch and dinner and the Italian was by far the best (dinner only) , it is called Portofino and men are required to wear long trousers. On a couple of occasions at lunch time we had to wait so long that we just got up and left. Other times we had to send food back as it wasn't warm. Such a shame. Drinks were plentiful and premium brands, good cocktails bar service by the pool was fantastic. We never struggled to get a sun bed and parasol, nice and spaced out too. Most mornings we didn't go to the pool before 10am. There is an adults only Jacuzzi, however there were kids in it all the time. Entertainment was dull and limited, don't expect anything after 9.30pm. The winner for this hotel is by far the staff. They couldn't do enough for you, they really are a credit to this property. Just a shame that other aspects didn't match their high standards of service. Have to specially mention Julio our pool waiter, fantastic service. You can visit sister hotel Dreams Amber for dinner. You just book with the concierge and make your own way there. We ate in the Asian restaurant, very good indeed. All in all we enjoyed our holiday despite the above mentioned and we met some great people that we have stayed in touch with.
This is overall a very good hotel with many hits & a few misses. We have stayed at Dreams Huatulco and loved it… so decided to try here. We love the no wrist bands, no reservations and top shelf liquor. I read reviews… so we were aware of the condo’s…. the late morning sunshine hitting the pool/beach…. and the open bathroom concept. We had booked the Mountain View room… it is in building two…. behind the main hotel building. It was still easily accessible to everything. Nice view of the mountains/jungle. Room was always cleaned spotless and the curtain works fine for some privacy. (I would image it would not be very comfortable to share your room with teens/young adults though). But for a couple it was fine. THE HITS: - THE BEACH!!! We walked for miles every day! -very few saved beach/pool chairs till well after 8-9 am. – Great clean pools & palapas on the beach – Whenever we requested anything staff did their best to accommodate (robes, better liquors ie. Crown Royal, Bud light, (almost all times Crown Royal was kept out of sight), even great Caesars! - The resort bathrooms are spotless – even at the pool! -good room service –Some really great staff especially *Angel* (best beach server ever!!), - LOVED the sushi at the Gohan bar & coffee at CoCo Café;SOME MISSES - NO GUAC (and I even asked) - use of towel cards; – The biggest miss was the closest beach bathroom was about 8\10th of the way back to lobby. They REALLY need a bathroom by the beach bar! Unfortunately during our stay there was renos on the building that host 3 restaurants = Oceana/Seaside (actually is one restaurant that switches name\menus only) and Barefoot Grill. It stated that it was to be closed Wed & Thurs only but actually ended up Friday and most of Saturday too. It left fewer options for dining. We ate many meals at the World Café buffet; it had lots of variety & good food. The only A la-carte we tried was the Portofino. Our entrée (shrimp & Calamari) was overcooked. Shrimp had full shell on them. Disappointing. The staff work very hard keeping the resort very clean & well run. Thank you for the great stay!
I spent a week at Dreams Villamagna and everything was fantastic. The service was excellent from the front desk to the floor staff. The room was huge and well appointed, the ocean view from room was excellent and the ladies cleaning the rooms were prompt and efficient - the only point which was minor is that most of the bathroom is glass and the glass and taps were not cleaned to what I would have liked and both could use some vinegar to bring the shine out - that's all just a picky thing.I read in reviews that drinks are not allowed near the pool - excuse me what resort where they at everyone was drinking around the pool, eating and having a great time. The staff kept the place spotless all through the day There isn't that loud blaring music but to me that was a blessing not everyone likes loud music and there are headphones for people who want to listen to music. There are three pools - 2 which are heated and filled with families and the beautiful cold infinity pool just before the beach - my favorite pool ever - invigorating and almost always empty - feels like your own private pool. That pool alone will bring me back to this great resort. The food was good for an all inclusive - it is difficult to cook for such a variety of people and they did a great job. I have been to many, many all inclusive resorts in the South and this is the best I've ever been to - for me it met all my wants and needs. The breakfast was as usual the best and one young lady made amazing omelettes or whatever your request was at this hot grill every morning. I was there 7 days and she was at that grill all 7 mornings greeting customers with a smile and sunny personality. I did notice that the guests didn't seem to tip very much which was confusing - granted I haven't traveled much in the last 4 years but tipping was always the norm. I tipped because that is what I have always done here in Canada and at the resorts I have stayed at.All in all a great place with friendly staff eager to make your stay memorable - I will be back and will recommend to friends. Thank you Dreams you were all wonderful and gave me a great getaway from snow and cold.
I will start out by saying we had a great time at the resort. I think like any hotel, the resort had some pros and cons. I’m a pretty easy going traveler so I will try my best to bring out the positive and negatives.Pros:+Check-in process was amazing. We were greeted with a glass of wine once we got out of the cab. The staff handled our bags and directed us promptly to the check-in station. +/- The rooms were okay. You could tell it was an older building but they tried to make the rooms look nice with some newer decorations. We had a junior suite facing the ocean. I would recommend getting an ocean view if possible. You are facing the pool and ocean but it never got loud or annoying during the day or night.+Staff members are extremely nice. This was the best part about the hotel. I really enjoyed the adventure club staff members and waiters at the bar. Everyone tried their best to make sure guest had a great time. Mateo was extremely nice and helpful.+/- Beach and pools were nice and clean. However, the seating options could improve. The resort is half guest and half residential. Unfortunately, you have to get out early to claim a chair in the sun. At other dream hotels, they have better seat options (i.e. cabanas) on the beach and pool area. This resort had outdated chairs at the beach. The pool chairs were okay but nothing fancy. The other Dream hotels had swim up pool bars, and chairs in the pool. The hotel should really work on providing better seating at the beach and pool since this is advertised as a “luxury resort”.+Beach was nice. The sand was nice to walk on. The water was cold in January so I didn’t get my entire body in the water. However, there were a ton of people in the water so I think it was just be not liking the cold water. There were different vendors that would come along the beach but they never pressured you to buy anything so that was nice.+/-Nuevo Vallarta is called the “New Vallarta” so it tends to be an older crowd. If you are looking for a nightlife scene and “younger crowd” this is not the place to stay. We opted to adventure outside the restaurant during the evening hours which I thought was fun.The resort is about a 15 minute cab ride to downtown Puerto Vallarta (i.e. just pass the airport). We traveled there one day which is about a $15 dollar one-way cab fare. We went to the flea market (which is pass the large church) and walked along the boardwalk. The boardwalk reminded me of Venice Beach in California. We went to one club (Mandala) which is the most popular nighttime club in Puerto Vallarta. Lastly, we went to a town called Bucerria which is about a ten minute drive south of the resort (about a ten dollar cab fare). The town had a small flea market area (downtown Puerto Vallarta had better options) and several restaurants/bars. We went to “El Gordo” for dinner which was AMAZING. There are a ton of restaurants in the town so come hungry if you go to the town. I would recommend going to Puerto Vallarta to shop and Bucerria to eat.Cons:-We got to the hotel around noon. We had to wait until 3pm for our room to be ready. I wish the hotel would offer a changing room so we could change into our swimsuit. Sadly, we had to change in the bathroom which was extremely small.- The food quality was just averaged. The resort has FOUR restaurants. This is something the hotel NEEDS to work on. They claim this is a luxury hotel but the food quality was average to below average. In the morning, most people went to the buffet. They had the same food options every morning so that got boring after a few days. At other Dream hotels, they had better quality food and/or more food options. The snack options during the day time were less than average. You had a choice between hamburgers, hot dogs, cold fries, and nachos w/ cheese. We had to literally beg someone to make some tacos because we couldn’t eat anymore of the “snack options”. I would expect more for the amount of money people pay at the resort. Your lunch and dinner options included the buffet restaurant (which was just average), Mexican restaurant (just okay), Italian, and a Seafood restaurant (mahi fish was delicious). This is something the hotel should work on.-The drink options were limited. Again, I would expect better quality liquor at a “luxury hotel”. They didn’t have any top shelf liquor options (both for vodka or tequila). I understand the hotel is not big due to the villas but you would think they would have better food and drink options for guest. The food and drink options alone were the hardest thing to get over since this was a luxury resort. This is something the hotel should work on as well to draw more people in.-Limited entertainment options. There is a board that shows all the different activities for the day. They had activities from yoga, beach volleyball, tequila tasting, bike riding, and movies/shows. I have seen better entertainment at other Dream hotels. If you are looking for the typical big entertainment shows, then this is not the place to stay at. They did have some activities we took part of during our stay that were fun. The adventure club members are trying their best to make sure guest have a good time. Here is the million dollar question you are thinking about. Would I recommend that you stay at this hotel? Based on my experience I would say “NO”. However, if the hotel could improve on their food/drink quality and entertainment then I would recommend someone staying at the hotel. I’m a foodie person so the food and drink options alone would force me to not stay at the hotel again. Now, if you like to get just averaged food then this is the place for you. I stayed at the Now hotel in Puerto Vallarta which is a newer hotel that is part of Dreams. I thought the Now hotel was AMAZING compared to this hotel. You are probably asking why I stayed at this hotel instead of Now. The answer is simple, I figured Dreams would be nice since Now is part of the Dreams’ brand and I wanted to try a different part of Puerto Vallarta. As I mentioned before, there were some good things about the hotel but the food/drink options alone were a hard thing since this is an all-inclusive resort. I think you have to way out your options and/or hope the hotel takes in some of the recommendations that other people have posted. I think for an all-inclusive resort, they have some things to work on for the amount of money people pay. Hopefully this reviews helps!
Just returned from a week vacation at Dreams and we all loved it. What we appreciated at this resort was the wonderful staff. The Reservations Manager, Marco, was great to deal with when we wished to have our rooms upgraded or changed. The waiters were always pleasant and really knowledgeable on Gluten Free food which made my husbands stay a "Dream". One waiter even came back to our table to let my husband know that the mouse he had chosen had a cake base and would not be Gluten free. Impressive! We felt the World Cafe buffet restaurant was really good and the omelette bar where we could request eggs cooked Sunnyside up, etc. was lovely. Our favorite restaurant was Italian Portofino that is adults only. The El Patio Mexican restaurant was a hit with our children. The Oceana seafood restaurant had great seafood, of course, but the steaks were wonderful. The Barefoot Grill was ok for hamburgers, pizza salads and tacos. Our 30+ adults like the Gohan Rooftop Sushi Bar for after 9 pm activity and the 24 hr. CoCo Cafe for specialty coffees with pastry snacks. There are 3 pools. The main family pool nearest the hotel is heated and has some (not loud) music playing a few days a week and occasional activities (exercises, water polo, intro to scuba). The second pool is also heated, for families, quieter and had more lounge chair availability. The Infinity pool for adults only is closest to the beach and is the coldest. The Marlin Swim Up Bar was 50 feet away from the pool so is incorrectly named. However, there are staff circulating constantly around all the pools and even the beach area to ensure everyone gets their favorite drink. The nightly activities times 8:30 - 10 pm are family orientated included: Circus show (acrobatics, clowns); Latin Dancers; Karaoke & DJ Night; Delight show(Girl singer with back up singers Opera, Latin, Pop); Star Wars Show family style comedy/dancing ; Fire Batons/Rope Twirling and Mariachi Band seemed to be more as a lower level Cruise entertainment. We have visited the Grand Luxe at the Mayan and feel the Dreams resort offers a better fit for our family with a more casual feel. We like having the little kids playing with the parents and grandparents rather than the adult only vibe. The activities of beach volleyball, water polo or volleyball by the pool, bike rides, tennis, etc. keep the younger adults happy. Walking the beautiful beach was a hit with all. I can see some not liking a room that seemed to need better attention to maintenance. Dreams needs to have all the rooms fit a good standard. We would recommend an oceanview room if that fits your budget. Overall the food, activities, pools, rooms and especially the staff made the experience one we would like to repeat.
