Iberostar The Club - Black Membership Experience

My husband, me and his parents stayed at Iberostar Playa Mita for the third time in 18 months. We are in our mid-thirties and travel often for work and leisure, but we come here to relax and rejuvenate. We've never once regretted buying the membership because what we got in exchange is something so invaluable - the ability to completely relax, recharge and enjoy the absolute top-notch service at steep discounts. If you’re considering The Club membership, this review is for you.Transportation: We requested private Iberostar pick-up service from the airport (Escalade) for an additional charge. It worked out to be about $60/person/round trip after our membership discount. The driver was already waiting for us with cool scented washcloths and bottles of water. After a 2-hour chaotic airport immigration lines, it felt like heaven. From that moment on we had amazing pampering experience from beginning to the end. The ride that last time took 1h 20m by bus, took about 35 mins by car. I noticed the driver quietly making a call to the hotel alerting them of our exact time of arrival to the resort.Check-In: As soon as we arrived, a concierge was already waiting for us at the front. She showed us to the Prestige Lounge, where we checked in quickly. And as an added bonus, we were able to enjoy cocktails and snacks right away. Everyone kept saying: "Welcome home!" and it actually felt like we were. We've already been in touch with Mildred via email for a couple of weeks, arranging our restaurant reservations, room preferences, massage appointments and special arrangements and items for our rooms. She confirmed our reservations and gave us coupons for complimentary massages. The new membership bands are more comfortable than last year's plastic medallion. Rooms: We got amazing welcome packages: cheese and fruit platters, white and red wine and champagne. Last time (April 2017) we also got Bombay Sapphire gin, tequila, and Cuban rum. I forgot to ask them why we got less alcohol this time. But it was not a big deal b/c the same alcohol was available to drink at the lounge if we wanted to.Before arrival, we mentioned that we're celebrating my parents-in-law 40th wedding anniversary. So their room was almost drowning in rose petals, flowers, chocolate covered strawberries and a letter from the hotel congratulating them. They loved this personal touch.Room cleaning: Our room attendants were like fairies. I don't know how but they always knew when to tidy up so as not to disturb us. Whatever system the resort has, it felt like magic. When we left even for a short time, by the time we came back it was clean. Our room was cleaned twice a day, every day. Emelda in the morning (am) always left us fun towel animals and fresh flowers. Marielena at night for turndown service left us a surprise EVERY single night. Whether it was a special rose petal decoration or fresh flowers in a vase. She noticed that I put a bottle of water on my side table the first night, so every consecutive night she put a fresh bottle of water and a clean glass. I was blown away by that attention to little details like this.Room amenities: standard Star Prestige amenities as others described. I love the l'Occitan selection. We had to ask them once to refill it, but after that one reminder Emelda paid attention and made sure we had plenty. The smart TV never worked for us. Cool selection of channels from all over the world, but buffering took too long so made it impossible to watch. I couldn't log in Netflix either. Nice idea, but doesn't really work. At nights we watched Netflix on my laptop. Restaurants: We went to all 4 specialty restaurants. With priority reservations we never felt stressed or worried that we won't get it. All it took was just a call to Mildred and our preferred time and restaurants was guaranteed even the day of. We drank 1 or 2 bottles of wine from the Prestige Wine list every night. Jose the Sommelier and Darcy helped us with their recommendations. We looked up those wines later and saw that the wine prices alone would justify a Star Prestige upgrade. Food: The burgers at the beach grill were a fantastic surprise. We ate there once in late afternoon b/c we missed lunch, and then came back 3 days in a row. The grill cook explained that his burgers are the best b/c he cooks everything fresh. Buffet: I became addicted to the cheese selection this time. Never paid attention to it before, but this time I made several cheese platters for myself to snack on at night in our room. The main buffet has at least 12-15 different high-quality cheeses every night plus jams, fruits, honey to pair it with. My favourite theme nights were Italian (unlimited lobster!), International (duck in orange sauce!) and Seafood. Rooftop Lounge: the resort added balinese beds and living room style furniture since our last visit, which makes the space so luxurious, adds privacy from people walking by (a welcome plus), plus more shade. We were visiting at the height of whale mating season so we saw them breeching and playing in the distance everyday. It was magical! We decided to make January our regular month to visit for that reason alone.Last year we saw someone cleaning the hot tubs and the balcony glass everyday, but this year we noticed it getting dirty. We asked Astrid, and she got someone right away to clean the glass from bird poop and to drain and refill the hot tubs. Overall we shouldn’t have to point out these things. The rest of the resort is spotless, so Rooftop lounge should just be up to the same standards. WiFi: overall I noticed that wifi around the hotel and in the rooms got faster over the last 2 years so the hotel must be adding routers throughout. BUT the rooftop still had practically no signal. We’ve been asking for it since last year, but there has been no change. It’s a huge issue for me because I still have to check in with my company every day, so I ended up going to the lounge for several hours in the morning before being able to go to rooftop to join my family. IF I am able to sit on a Balinese bed all day and work on my laptop from there, I would come back to Playa Mita 6 times a year! This is the most important request for further upgrades that I have: please ensure there is a strong wifi signal on the rooftop lounge. Rooftop Staff: We were so happy to see Astrid and Daniel were still there. They are so sweet. We chatted so much. They brought us chef’s treats for Club members (shrimp skewers, mini tacos, chocolates) twice a day and from the daily poolside events if we asked. Carmelo at the bar was friendly and lovely and made delicious drinks. Then our favourite bartender Mario came back for the last part of our stay and his presence just elevated everything for us. Mario is one of our favourite Iberostar staff members because he is earnest, fun, and enthusiastic. He taught us about different shots and cocktails, and he made every drink extra special: adding fresh fruit, mixing in unusual juices, etc. And he also brought us drinks and food before we even knew what we wanted, and it was always perfect. Thank you Darcy and Ruben for re-arranging his schedule so he can work on the rooftop while we were there!Spa: We enjoyed our complimentary Swedish massages both inside the spa and outside. Each location has its benefits. Inside the spa is quiet and you can use the wet facilities. Outside is so convenient and you can hear the ocean while you’re getting treatment. But in Jan it was a bit windy and not as hot as I wanted it to. Cecilia is my favourite massage therapist, and I highly recommend her for massages and other skin or facial treatments.Member Events: We went to wine tasting and Mixology classes for Prestige Members. Last year they were intimate with 4-5 people, but as Star Prestige is getting more popular, it’s starting to feel like a party, about 10-12 people each time. I loved the wine tasting event more. Food pairing was excellent as were the wines. The cocktails at the mixology class were too basic and way too sugary for my taste, but Eli made it fun. Tips: We always tip - buffet service, restaurants, massages, concierge, bus boys, bar tenders, baristas, entertainment staff. It’s still confusing for me to figure out what’s too little or too much tbh, but I’d say $1 for baristas and bartenders per drink or $5-10 if we stayed around for a few hours or if the service was extra good, which it’s always is.Overall service: A lot of people recognized us from the previous visits and came by to say 'hello’, give us a hug and let us know that they are available to help. I also realized that senior staff pointed our family to others so that they make sure to address our requests. This was mostly great because people were paying attention. As soon as I looked around looking for help, someone immediately materialized right next to me. One downside is that a couple of times our waiters at the buffet were visibly nervous when serving us or horrified if there was a mistake. For example, I got seated at someone else’s table at the buffet, and it was awkward when this couple came back to their table with their plates full. Or when we got a wrong bottle of wine. For us, those are really insignificant issues, but the waiters were so nervous, I felt bad and reassured them multiple times that really those were not even worth mentioning.Darcy was our superstar host. He made my father-in-law quite emotional with the kind, personal service that he gave our family. We were always so excited to see him wherever it was, and he came by almost every night to recommend something special: a menu item or a perfect wine to go with it. Mildred is so graceful, kind and hospitable. She has such a calming and confident presence. I honestly think that she can do magic. Anything you ask or wonder out loud, she takes care of it quickly, quietly and with her wonderful “Mona Lisa” smile. Mario is our sunshine and joy! I’ve never met such a fantastic personality and can’t wait to see him again soon.It took a lot of hard work of a lot of people to make it look easy and enjoyable. We’re very grateful for an amazing experience and superb service. We’re really excited that Iberostar is building a Grand hotel next door. It should be ready in the next 2 years, and we want to come during the opening week. Thank you, Iberostar family, for another fantastic vacation!

good overall experience and value

clean rooms, room service available as part of the all-inclusive package, friendly staff, grounds were clean, service in the cigar bar was very slow- but the having a cigar bar was pretty cool. one of the better all-inclusives we've been to. beach clean, staff helpful,food was decent, great variety.. golf course was very scenic but pricy, and the staff at the golf course were Very rude and Not customer friendly

Our winter vacation

We are now down to the last 3 days of our winter vacation 2018. And looking at the weather back home we don’t want to leave. Everything here has been fabulous. The rooms are great, the service has been great, the staff have been great, the beach walks have been great. I have not been disappointed with anything here during our stay.

our plane was delayed due to a Technical fault and so we ended up with 2 nights at this Hotel.The hotel and its grounds were immaculate and its staff were very friendly, we only ate in the buffet restaurant but the food on offer was vast and the quality was high.The rooms were spacious and clean, although my Husband and i were given a room with two beds, both beds were bigger than a single but way smaller than a double so we opted to have one each.our balcony was large and over looked the golf course and had a side ocean view, it was lovely to sit and listen to the waves crash against the beach.the hotel had what looked to be a very good entertainment programme and a nice kids pool area.we had a thoroughly enjoyable extra two days in beautiful Mexico

Beautiful paradise...

This place more than met our expectations. Beautiful place, fantastic service, we couldn't have asked for more. The concierge helped us find day trips that were exactly what we wanted, it was all just great.
