Crowne Plaza Panama
- What's Included
We are back for our 4th visit to the Crowne Plaza in Panama City. It seems to improve with each visit. They appear to be working on cleaning and renovating it. The breakfast buffet is always excellent. Lunch is very good as well. The wonderful and amazing Harold Martinez is still there giving incredible service and assistance. The hotel isn't perfect, but the staff always goes above and beyond.
Everyone at the hotel was nice and friendly. The hotel looks old and dated groom the outside, but il thought it might have been updated inside... not the case. I was in the executive floor, so I think it's a bit better than the rest. First bad sign, a dehumidifier in the middle of the corridor. Them my room, it smelled so bad! Humidity and mold...its the coast, so...maybe normal? Screws and some type of tape were on the bathroom counter, safe didn't work, but the worst was the cleanliness. Everything seemed dirty, from walls to light switches...i was grossed out. It was night in a foreign country so I spent the night, I thought maybe I was being too critical, but once I woke up there was no doubt I didn't feel comfortable. I checked out and went to Riu. I would not stay at the Crowne Plaza again...
On a recent business trip, I left my lap top in the van that brought me to the hotel. When I explained to the bellman what happened he took over right away and promised he would call me to give me an update. I was very worried since my presentation was on a flash drive which was also in the computer bag. Twenty minutes later I received a call that the van driver was in the lobby with my lap top. I was amazed at the take charge attitude shown by bellman Jose Gutietirz who called the car service and arranged for the bag to be returned. Luckily I had a phone number for the service, but Jose volunteered to review closed circuit TV footage at the front door of the hotel to get the license number of the van if we needed it. I cannot say enough about Jose and the empowered staff at this hotel. Jose's assistance was exceptional, especially since I was a foreign visitor and not fluent in the langauge.
Honestly speaking, the experience was OK! Check in was cold or front desk too serious. Profile information was combined with another family member, which was not so good, but it wasn't that much of a trouble for me. Staff don't seem to be so welcoming. The room was great! I had a balcony and could enjoy the view. Bed was noisy, but was not so important for me. What I did had trouble with was the internet access, I had a hard time trying to log in with the user and password provided at front desk. There seems to be to many wifi networks with the hotel's name and makes it a bit confusing on which one to choose. I contacted internet assistance as per their directory and was offered a call back. The call back time was long enough for me to figure it out by myself. Was not that of a hassle for me, but I know this could be an inconvenience for somebody that demands instant access or assistance. Breakfast? I would rather go to another restaurant if it's not included in the room rate. Otherwise, there are other options around. The stay was OK.
