Crowne Plaza Panama
- What's Included
Certainly not the standard of most other hotels in Panama City. The hotel is tired and the staff were not friendly on any occasion. Housekeeping was done very late in the day and the corridors have a very musty smell. Swimming pool was very refreshing and bar staff made up for most others who work there. Wifi was also pretty good.
We stayed in the Crowne Plaza downtown hotel the nights of March 3rd and 4th. This rather small hotel was located in a nice area and is apparently a business hotel, rather than one designed for tourists. Our room was comfortable and provided an interesting view. The 4th floor outdoor pool and deck were very appealing, and provided beautiful views of the taller buildings surrounding the hotel. The breakfast buffet was included with our room, and the buffet and a small restaurant in the bar were available during other meal hours. When we accidently left an extra $20 in the bill folder with the payment for our meal and the tip, the server promptly came up to our 8th floor room, knocked on our door, and asked if we had made an error! This left us with a wonderful impression of the people working at the Crowne Plaza.
Our room looked out onto the front with views of the lovely church opposite. The windows had double sealed units, however, the windows were dirty and the nets grubby. The hotel is very noisy due to the loud air conditioning units running 24 hours in the landing areas outside the rooms. These can be heard all night long. We thought about asking to change rooms however, we visited a number of floors and they all seem to have the same noisy units so didn't bother for our 2 nights. If you are a light sleeper be aware these are VERY noisy! Although the noise is a constant noise so it may not bother you.We arrived late in the evening and dropped off by a driver as part of the tour we were on. We were due to picked up at 6.00 am the next morning, when we checked in and found out breakfast didn't start until 6.00 am, we asked the receptionist if we could have a pack up breakfast arranged. He was very unhelpful and said we would need to speak to the night porter that came on at midnight. Bearing in mind we had been travelling for around 18+ hours by the time we arrived, so it was unlikely we would want to stay up another 2 hours to ask! As luck would have it in the morning when we went down we asked a different male receptionist if it was possible to get something then and explained that we had arrived late and he was really helpful and spoke to the restaurant staff who allowed us to go in earlier. We found both the restaurant and bar areas not to be as clean as they should be, food on the floor, tables not clean and as mentioned in an earlier review generally the hotel felt grubby in parts.Looking at some of the photos of the pool area, I don't know why, but this area certainly didn't feel as smart as some of the pictures show. The church opposite is a beautiful building and worth a visit inside.
I had an axcellent expirience whit my family at Crowne Plaza city,it was good in the pool for carnivals there was BBQ good food room clean and had a big size. It every one was very help always willing to help.
Spent a couple days at the CP in Panama City. Super staff, really take care of the guests. Very convenient location in the city, just steps from the Metro and lots of stores around. Plenty to do in the area.It was Carnival, so likely a bit busier than normal with families. Fifth floor, street side room. Had returned from dinner and was just settling into the room about 8pm. Tons of wild kids screaming and running up and down the halls. Figured I was going to have an interesting night. But fortunately they went to bed and all was quiet right about 9pm. Quiet, at least until the AC fan kicked in. Holy moly, it was like someone was feeding rebar down a garbage disposal. I called the front desk and explained the situation, asking to change rooms. They were extremely polite and said an engineer would be there shortly. Jose G showed moments later and listened to the noise. After a few minutes of adjusting the AC levels, it was clear the noise could not be fixed and he confirmed a new room would be best. Super nice and competent guy, absolutely a valuable asset to the hotel. Minutes later we were on the way up to a suite on the 9th floor. While it wasn't necessary, the upgrade was done to address my inconvenience and certainly welcome. That just goes to show how much the CP staff value their guests. The building itself is getting older and needs a bit of TLC, but overall it is a wonderful place to stay. I would certainly recommend this hotel.
