Hard Rock Hotel Panama Megapolis
- What's Included
- All Inclusive Features
It seems to be THE WORST five start hotel we have ever stayed in. Made my husband and I keep away from all the HardRock hotel chain forever. While the lobby is shiny and more or less new, the first impression when you enter hotel grounds leading to the rooms, is humid-moldy smell. It comes from moist and stained carpets on the floor. The carpets is not the only thing which is worn out, walls are scratched and the plaster is crumbling at some spots. Most areas scream for serious remodeling. When it comes to the room, it had an okeish view and a large shower. The only advantages of it. Worst part of our experience is low sleeping quality. We live in a skyscraper at home and we know what good sound-proofing is. Unfortunately in HardRock we felt like sleeping next to the airport. Same applies to the air conditioning – it was very loud and had to be turned off during night-time. If you sleep with a partner in the same bed, be prepared for a very tiresome night – every single move transfers from one side of the bed to another. Barely slept for three nights we have stayed there. The room was also very dark and lacked proper lighting. On the brighter side, breakfast was not that bad, eggs, fruit, fresh juice. More or less like everywhere else. As you can see from most travelers’ photos, the hotel pool opens into a wonderful panorama. However, if you want to be the only person, in your breathtaking pictures, you’d have to visit between 8:00-8:30 a.m. Later it becomes so crowded that there are not enough sun-beds for all that want to use them. This whole pool zone is way too small for such a large hotel. Location is also a big no-no, far away from all the action/shops/cafes. There are a few cafes around which offer over-priced nasty food we had to leave. The hotel offers you some special taxis (not yellow city taxi company) which basically rips-off everyone. They show a huge sheet with 25$ price tag for Hotel -> Casco Viejo (old town/city center) direction and many more which are non-negotiable. Later we found out that the actual price is ~10$ or even less if you are a better bargainer and speak Spanish. We witnessed a lady trying to catch a taxi from HardRock to the airport. Employee of a hotel told her it is 40$. When the woman said she will call an Uber instead, the price tag dropped to 30$. As you can see, this hotel does not have a “protect your customer” policy, their policy is more “hustle as much as possible”. Avoid this place at all costs. We moved to another 5* hotel in Panama city (Eu**stars to be specific), which cost us 100eur less but was newer/more comfortable/had a better view and location close to everything.
I rarely write reviews on all my destinations and I am an avid traveller but after this experience I want to give the courtesy to someone else my expereince and the actual truth about the hotel. First we booked this trip for our 10 year anniversay, when we arrived check in was okay, speedy and we actually had a nice room in comparison to what is out there.Upon arrival we are notified that guests are not allowed in the rooms and that only the person/persons who booked are allowed .. what?!?! I was shocked to learn about this, this is not stated on their website, nor advertised ... WHICH IS A SCAM!!!! I have never heard of booking a hotel room and not having family or friends be allowed to visit you. On our 2nd day, my good friend from Panama came to visit and we went up to my room to grab a jacket and get ready to go out, no lies I received a call in my room from someone who doesn't speak english telling me that I am being charged $150.00 and that security is on alert. What?!?! How embarrased I was, I immediately told my friend to leave and quickly went down to inquire about this embarrassing event that happen on my vacation and trip that I paid approximately $3500.00. I spoke to the "manager" in the front and shared with her how embarrasing this was and why my friend could not come up to my room for a couple of minutes. They gave us this nice suite with a living room and sitting area, i assume its there th entertain but NO, she clearly tells me visitors are only allowed att he bar area. I was furious and explained that this is not advertised and i WOULD NOT HAVE BOOKED THIS HOTEL if i had known and i asked for a refund, with a smirk on her face clearly tells me there are no refunds and i have to abid with their rules. I was livid but left and sucked it up as I knew I was $3500.00 in and if i relocated i would be out another $2000.00 ...IF YOU ARE SINGLE, GAY, or want to have guests visit you - DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!!!!!So when i booked i decided to book the All INCLUSIVE as i anticipated it would cut on costs and not worry about meals ... WHAT A SCAM ALL INCLUSIVE IS ..... first the breakfast is okay, not spectaular but okay (you can't go wrong with eggs and bacon)Lunch is so disappointing, you are stuck eating in the buffet which is the left overs from breakfast, you are only limited to eat what they offer and all the meat was over cooked and honestly not much appealling. The hard rock is smart, people who pay for individual meals are offered the appealing foods like hamburgers, fries, bbq, but all inclusive have to buy their own burget at $18.00.Dinner is embarrassing, you get to eat at the 3 restaraunts but have to pick from a special menu that has 3 choices in each restaurant and they are not even good choices. The fustrating thisng is to be in a restaruant and see the table beside you eating these faboulous meals that look good but when your arrives you are like ... what am i paying for? Drinks - ALL INCLUSIVE is a scam, once again you can only choose from a handful of drinks and if you want something off the menu you have to pay. What was shocking to me is that when i went down to talk to the "manager" she then tells me that there are different levels of All Inculsive but couldn't explain to me which one i was on and why there would be different levels when there is only one menu.BIG DISAPPOINTMENT on ALL INCLUSIVE and their menu is highly priced - FYISo this trip gets better ........We bought a bottle of champagne at the airport and brought it back to my room and put it in the fridge, on the day of we go in the fridge and it was gone. I called front desk and explained what happen and they said they would send security up to room. A female security guard comes up and can't speak a work of english, of course nothing gets resolved and we are left empty handed. On our 5th day me and my partner decide to do a spa day as the weather in PANAMA is not the greatest, we both get treatements and decide to use the facility. My partner goes inside the wet steam room only to cut his foot on a piece of glass. I ended up collecting 5 pieces of glass and bring it up to the front. The man who works there takes the glass and takes off. The girl at the front can't speak english and took forever to get a bandade. We both got fustrated and decided to leave, with no bandade. The pool, big disappointmet, it does not have enough seats for all their guests. My advice is that if you want to get a seat to lie down and tan, be there by 8:45am or else by 9:10am no seats available. They probably have a total of 12 chairs ..... In a week i got the chair once ... had to lie on the wooden bunker with a towel ... go figure i spent $3500.00 for this trip and i can't even tan comfotably. Don't get me wrong, I've been around the world and even my stay in Cuba was more comfortable then here, I think Hard rock falsly advertises their hotel "rules" and can't believe I booked a hotel and was not allowed to bring up a family member to my room. ACTUALLY the truth is I am allowed if I pay them $150.00 per guest .... THIS IS A SCAM!!!!!! Another piece of advice to Hardrock, you are an American chain in Panama, invest time and money and offer your staff some english classes or lessons to help assist customers. Even the basic words, give back to your employees. I wish someone would have posted this as I was reviewing the reviews and would have known about no family or friends allowed in yuor room. My advice, DO YOUR HOMEWORK!
We stopped here for 4 nights and enjoyed our stay. The rooms are big and nice but pretty dark. Some additional lamps should solve the issue. Pool area is cool and the bar is also nice. You can walk to Hard Rock Café and the area seems pretty safe.
Stayed for 3 days with my family which including children 9 and 12 years old. They were having key card issues during our entire stay, so that meant often our key cards didn't work and we'd have to go all the way down to the lobby to get a bell boy to assist. No telephones available on the floors to call for help. Also, the rooms and hallways were very poorly lit. Hard to get ready in the morning. Breakfast buffet was great! Many food options but service wasn't great. The beds were literally like "hard rocks".. so uncomfortable.
I stayed for a long weekend. It is a better hotel. Expensive but that's to be expected in Panama City where everything is expensive. The place was kept very clean at all times. Staff was kind and helpful. Thanks for a great stay, I'll be back :)
