The Hotel Riu Panama Plaza stands at the heart of the financial centre of Panama City, very close to many banks, boutiques and shopping malls. Well managed Staff well trained

Stayed here 4 nights ,first impressions ,lobby is huge and decor contemporary without being sterile nice bar in corner.Concierge staff very helpful with out any price gouging.Buffet breakfast at 16 USD was great with a huge selection, we had buffet dinner 1 night which although late in the session was still good value.Small coffee shop makes best flat whites but $3 for 300ml of water.Rooms are spacious clean and everything operational.Used fitness room and pool gym is basic but enough gear to work off the buffet ,pool area is large and again a great bar $6 Coronas. Would definitely return

Got robbed by RIU

RIU really missed the boat at the front desk. We had a one day layover in Panama City and decided to stay at the RIU Plaza because we are RIU class member and we like the chain. When we arrived the clerck noticed that we had reserved the room for only one person and we were a couple. We had reserved a double room, so to me it was a simple matter, we made a typo, we're 2 persons, the price for a room is the same for one or 2 persons (with no breakfast included), give me the keys and lets get on with it. End of story! I even checked the RIU web site and on Booking to confirm this.Well it seems it was a very big deal and that they had to charge us 27.50$ more for the room because we were 2 instead of one. We had a cab waiting so we didn't have time to argue and we paid the extra unjustified charge.When I got back home, I contacted RIU reservations to ask them to explain this and things went from bad to worse. They answered that because we were 2 we couldn't fit in a double room and they had to give us a bigger room, What a load of BS! We were not asked if we wanted to change and we didn't ask to change room. We had booked a double room for 2 (yes with a typo in the reservation form), and that was fine with us. There was no reason to charge us extra. It may be a way this hotel uses to make extra money, I don't know but RIU Plaza hotels have fallen at the bottom of my go to list. I could've understood the clerk error but the email I got from RIU reservations is totally unacceptable. I thought RIU was an honest hotel chain, seems they are not. Sadly the 27.50$ they made with me will cost them way more as I will no longer go to RIU Plaza hotels and I travel a lot.The hotel in itself is nice, it's well situated and the room was good, it's the only reason I gave the hotel 2 stars.but please check your bill and compare it to your reservation.

Nicely located hotel in Panama City

Nicely located hotel in Panama City.clean, good service, good breakfast.What else do you need?If you have a room at a higher level than the view will be astonished. Unluckily I only spend two days there and had no chance to use the amenities.

Excellent hotel

I'm not a big fan of huge hotels, but this one is quite good. The lobby i enormous and so is the breakfast room, but everything is well organized. There are some decent restauarnts in the area.I had a pleasant stay and I will be back,

5 ***** ? Seriously? Not in my books.

Being a frequent traveler, this is maximum 3 to 3.5 ***. Why? Here we go after spending 5 days, 4 nights on business. -After 4 days, the hair on the floor of the bathroom of the previous tenant were still there. -Fridge was totally empty, forget enjoying a cold beer after a hot day out-No room service after 10 pm , unless you accept pre-packed sandwiches. I ordered a Caeser salad, took me 8 mins to get the order, when it came, it was dry and cold-I had to ask EVERYDAY for the face cloths- but every single day-No inside slippers provided, lucky I always carry my own as it seems they do not vacuum the floor-Towels greyish and old: once they even left me a wet one handing to dry for me to use againI can go on and on...otherwise room was quiet, bed comfortable ...but no notes to put on the bed to change linen, so had the same at least for 3 nights! FAst and efficient check in. Good selection of tv channels and wifi is great throughout the hotel. Breakfast good enough but not if you only take pastries. Staff are ok-ish, yet you need to pay some of them to get a smile off them, seem very unhappy. One of the aims of my trip was to experience the hotel. My company is just round the corner and we have around 15 hotel rooms-nights per week and I wanted to see if we change. But I definitely have a no go on this one - if I was not satisfied, neither will be my clients. Pity. Will not go back and not recommend this hotel.
