We went to this resort last month and have mixed feelings about our stayWe did have fun, but also did experience various disappointments and frustration; thus, I would like to leave this objective review for those who booked a trip to this hotel so that they know what to expectFirst, it is NOT a 4 start resort in American standards. Those who went to 4 start resorts in Mexico, Jamaica, DR etc. will be disappointed. It is 2-star resort at best. In our room, we had no blow dryer, no night table lamp, no robes, no slippers, only one chair. The toiler didn’t flush well, you would have to mess with it to get it to work. The phone didn’t have a direct front-desk dial button. After a small fight and several back and forth talks and calls, we did receive all objects mentioned above. The staff DID try to help us and WAS very accommodating. Also, we did receive a great ocean view room, which did balance out some discomfort. During our stay, the elevator broke for half a day. In a gym, only one of three treadmills was working. In the third day of our stay, the third one broke also. The food in a breakfast is scarce at best. We had to fight to get some ketchup, yogurt and cheese. Overall the breakfast is adequate, with omelets cooked for your, but nowhere near the breakfasts served at Mexican or DR counterparts of this resorts. The dinners are OK, there is nothing specifically negative that can be said about them However, the main discomfort can come from the fact that this resort is NOT for international English-speaking middle-class tourists. This resort is for working-class locals. If you come and stay here during the weekend, you will NOT enjoy it. You will find yourself in an overcrowded resort where NO ONE speaks English. You will NOT be able to get a place at the bar, to get a chair at the beach. You will find yourself in a middle of Spanish speaking screaming working class crowd and feel out of place. The undisciplined kids are everywhere. You will NOT be able to enjoy the Jacuzzi. You will get splashed by the screaming kids. The kids will splash you at the pool bar, they will splash across the entire pool area. You will have to deal with screaming kids even at the piano bar late at night. Thus, make sure you are NOT at the resort during the weekend. Get away on the one-day tour to Panama City or nearby village.During the weak days, the resort becomes nice and quiet, the staff is very friendly though almost none of them speaks English. The beach is nice, the chairs are there, the alcohol keeps coming. The weather is great and there is an opportunity to relax and enjoy the vacation. If you rent a car, there are things to do outside the hotel, everything is safe and welcoming. The water sports are available, rent a jet sky and enjoy the scenery from the ocean side, which is gorgeousThe bottom line is – it is a 2-star resort for the local working class with friendly and accommodating staff that doesn’t speak English. If you account for this factor, you WILL enjoy the resort
I read the negative reviews before we booked here, but it was in the right location for our drive from Boquete to Panama City. Room: When we arrived, after 7 hours of driving, we were put in the king ocean view we had requested, but it was a connecting room, smelled like paint and had a broken filthy light fixture on the terrace. When I mentioned my SPG membership to the man at the front desk, he told me my membership didn't apply because I had not booked on the Starwood site. He basically said that we got a poor room because we booked through a discount online travel agency. Hey Sheraton, don't accept those reservations if you are going to treat those clients as second class citizens! And we had to pay the rack rate for our second night, because our departure was delayed a day due to Hurricane Irma. So we weren't really cut-rate customers at all. The place was definitely overpriced for what we got.I am always prepared to fight for a decent room around the world, but particularly in Latin America. I hate having to fight for what I paid for, especially after hours of travel, but it's better than settling for the worst room in the house. After being told there were no non-connecting rooms unless we wanted to pay an extra $100 per night, a different hotel representative found a non-connecting king ocean view room for us.We ended up in a better room with a lovely view of the ocean from a front window and a side deck. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. There were no lamps and no hangers, which makes me think the room was newly remodeled, but I called and we got one lamp and ten hangers. It did not smell like paint, fortunately. The bathtub is plastic, and the area around it is in need of repair. The employee who showed us to our room was kind and helpful. The security man who worked to unlock the locked safe was also kind and helpful. We enjoyed our room, though elevator service was slow, and we were on the 6th floor.Food and drink: The less said about the food and drinks at this Sheraton, the better. The buffet was usually the only choice, and the food was bad. If you are a pasta all the time person you may do okay. And the salad bar was okay.At lunch you have a choice of hot dogs and french fries, disgusting "nachos" or the buffet. A man told me I could not be in the buffet in my swimming suit and towel after I had eaten most of my lunch. Why not have a sign by the door, or even better allow people in swim suits into the only eating place available at lunch time? We ate at the Japanese restaurant, and the food was okay--at least it was fresh made. The drinks are the cheapest and weakest possible. Pool: The pool looked nice, but it remained crowded and I was put off by naked babies and other children of diaper age being allowed in it. After a while I wondered what percentage of the water might be urine. The saving grace of this resort is the beautiful beach on which it is situated. It is a long beach, great for walking.
I am one person. However after complaining about the noise I was put into a suite. This was not a kind move as I was also charged an additional $400 a day for that! It was bare-bones and easily considered one star. I immediately requested to go back to my previously noisy room. However upon my return to Canada , (I won't even bother to go into the complete hellish stay!!) I found I was charged for both rooms which was an additional $400 a day on top of my room charge I was unable to have it removed from my credit card. Although I disputed it with my credit card company the Sheridan Bijao beach resort would not back down and I therefore was stuck and have had to pay for two rooms one being a suite! That I didn't end up even staying in. The logic was lost on the credit card company that I was one person and could not possibly be staying in two rooms. "Unfortunately the Sheridan Bijao beach resort can respond to this post any way they like." They can say that I can contact them, they can say that mistakes were made, they can say that they would like to rectify things, it is all lies!!!!!! The bottom line is they have done nothing and "I am unable to respond on this site after they added their 2 lying cents". Most resorts would bump you into a better room without an additional charge. Not this place!! Here they move you into a suite that looks like something out of Little House on the Prairie, charge you an additional $400 a day for it and continue to charge you for your original room!!! I don't care if they respond to this or not as I have yet to receive my money back and I am out over $3000 and had a terrible stay with horribly rude and unhelpful staff at an only so-so, most of closed down, more than half empty, hotel. If you want to increase your capacity of guests and income this is not the way to do it! Horrible horrible horrible. Complete disaster of a hotel in every way shape and form!!!!
The hotel grounds are nice. It's an all inclusive hotel that is surprisingly very family oriented. Order simple drinks like rum and coke. The Bloody Mary will probably disappoint you. The rooms are very bad, like shiny paint. Come here for one night to party, then move on.
We went with our family of teenagers. The rooms were big and clean, the beach looked nice the first day, but then the weather changed, we had sun, but the ocean was crashing onto and covering the beach the whole rest of our stay. The pools and bars were enough to make up the difference.Advice-wise: the AAA rate was significantly less than the regular rate as well as the SPG points.
