With mountains on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other, Sheraton Bijao Beach Resort is an adventurer's dreams come true. For the less adventurous, there's a spa, an international-style casino and an array of restaurants and bars. This hotel is a great choice for singles, couples, and families alike.


Overlooking a spectacular stretch of beach and surrounded by lush greenery, this superb resort offers all the ingredients for a fun-filled getaway.

Location: Beachfront, approximately 1 hr and 45 minutes from the International airport.

Terrible first impression, average stay

We booked a stay despite the reviews hoping our experience would be slightly better. The first impressions consisted of having to walk more than a mile and a half from the main road when we arrived by public bus. There was no hotel staff at the main road and when we arrived at the security gate mid way through our walk, no shuttle or golf cart was made available to take us the rest of the way. With heavy luggage, we arrived soaked with sweat. While we indicated at the Sheraton website that we would be arriving early at a specific time, we were not told that an extra fee would be assessed. Only after I strongly protested to a second front desk staff member was the fee waived. When we arrived to our room, it was not fully cleaned so we needed to be moved to another room. The pool bar needs to be renovated but the pools were nice. While the food was typical buffet food, it was fairly well done. Unfortunately, flies were a bit frustrating. The beach was nice but not as beautiful as on the Caribbean side of the country. A wonderful piano player was a nice surprise during the evening.For the price paid, the stay was worth it but it could have been so much better.

I visited this place when it recently open and i think the food was ok, but the service great. I havent visited lately but from what i hear off it has been going tru some remodeling so i guess it got bad reviews now. i visited back in 2012.

A disappointment

This hotel needs work. The room was very stark, no pictures or decorations. On the weekend they play very loud music and plates of food are left out around the pool, so the birds are all over that. The buffet is not that great, and the only restaurants open are the Asian and Mediterranean. On our last night the Asian was the only one open and they were booked for the night. The beach is not clean, lots of plastic cups and such left I would not recommend this hotel.

Average all the way around!

My partner and I booked this resort and then read the reviews. We made the assumption that it runs under the Sheraton name and it must be reflective of the others we have stayed at. I was afraid of what we might find, especially with some of the really bad review. So we went with some reservations. First impressions were good. Very clean, nice looking buildings. We drove into the resort and were struck by how empty it was and how lacking it was as far as welcoming us to the resort. We got to our room and luggage very quickly and due to how empty the resort was we were upgraded to a spectacular ocean view king size bed room! The room itself was clean and one quick phone call to housekeeping we were able to get towels and water bottles.The view of the resort is gorgeous, many different pools and lots of seats on the beach. However only one way to the pool bar - that is to swim up. No other bars poolside to sit and relax outside of the water. Mostly people from Spanish speaking countries at poolside, at the beach and in the resort itself. The grounds are kept extremely clean by all the hard working staff - there is always somebody wiping, sweeping, and mopping all over the grounds - downside is you have to speak spanish to really enjoy this place. It does not cater at all to English speaking people - however we found a few staff who had spoke better than the others so we managed.Two of the worst things on the resort are : The buffet and the Entertainment (lack thereof). The buffet was mediocre at best and reminded me of the buffets I had in Varadero maybe 20 years ago! The a la carte restaurants were 5 Star - Sakura-Japanese Olivos-Mediterranean and Coco Solo- Grillhouse - all served excellent meals and provided excellent table service - expected from The Sheraton. The entertainment was actually sad and I felt a little embarrassed for them. We have been entertained at some amazing resorts in Cayo Coco and Punta Cana and these were just sad all around. The Karaoke was especially sad. The resort was quiet of any entertainers during the day - thank god for the DJ who played excellent Reggaeton music from his little hut all day long. My partner and I enjoyed the gym in the mornings - really good machines, equipment, towels, and water cooler. We also enjoyed the billiards room on one of the really hot days when being outside was unbearable. The cappuccino in the afternoons were lovely!!We took the excursion to Panama City Canal and city tour - going to the canal was a major disappointment - no ships going in and out. Our guide seemed to know we wouldn't be seeing anything. He offered us to go on our phones on Youtube to see a video of what we missed in person! For $90 per person they should have timed it better. Our guide seemed tired and it didn't seem like he could be bothered with the tour and his job, instead spent time scrolling through Facebook when he could have been interacting with the tour bus and giving us more knowledge of his country. I have to commend him on his ability to switch between Spanish, English and French though. Im not sure how this resort is during peak, busy time, but our experience in Mid-May was definitely mediocre - 3 Stars. I would rather pay a few hundred more for a real 5 Star. Thank you to all the staff for being pleasant and hard working.

Such a bad experience...

Rooms are terrible, dirty, even the air conditioner didnt work. The staff is not friendly at all and could fix a simple problem like the room conditions. Needs renovation, not a good quality hotel at all and food were bad... Not a five star hotel, not even close!I wouldnt recommend or return to this place at all!
