We took a family vacation to Panama with 20 family members ranging in age from 1-1/2 to 86 years old. We had 11 adults and 9 children. We purchased the all-inclusive package that included all restaurants and bars. We were not disappointed!! We booked 10 rooms, and the five families had rooms that connected so that the children could stay with their parents, but each could have their own room and bathroom. I stayed in the Renewal Suite with my husband and it was spectacular. We had a separate bedroom with a spacious living room and an adjoining room for our young adult children. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. Housekeeping service was impeccable. The view from the room was amazing and we could see ships in line to go through the canal 24/7. We had a nice note and a fresh fruit tray on our table from Johanna when we arrived. The days that we spent at the resort were filled with relaxation and fun at the many pools. There was a quiet area for my father of 86 years and an activity pool where the kids and grandkids did Water Zumba led by the the resort staff to upbeat music. The pool bartenders are friendly and make great drinks. We ordered lunch for the kids poolside..pizza and burgers, etc. They loved it! At every restaurant, the staff were friendly and accommodating. It IS a Spanish-speaking country and we do not speak fluent Spanish, so there were the occasional communication glitches. Some of the staff spoke fluent English and some did not speak much at all so I will brush up on my Spanish before the next visit! The menus are in both English and Spanish so that helps a lot. We found the food to be very good for an all-inclusive! The steaks and salmon were delicious. Don't go expecting NYC meal timing...you are on island time! Our group was large, so it was impossible to have all meals brought out at the same time. We fed the kids first and all enjoyed relaxing at dinner with delicious drinks. The staff will do anything they can to make you happy. We were not looking for a resort with a fantastic beach/beach activities, so the beach at the resort was just fine for us. When the tide was out, the kids enjoyed looking for sea life in the sand/mud. When the tide was in, the water was warm. We took a day trip to San Blas to see beautiful, crystal-clear water and snorkel. It was amazing. We had an early departure for many tours and Ronan in the Pacifica restaurant made sure I had coffee for the road every day! I enjoyed a massage in the spa with Nila and it was perfect. In the evening, we met in the bar in the lobby and always had great service. There were many staff members that we got to recognize over the week...Ricardo and Billy Jean to mention a couple. But everyone was kind, smiling and helpful. Communication prior to arrival was difficult, but with a few phone calls and Facebook messages, we were able to work things out. We did several day trips. The trips we took offsite were through a private travel agent who is a friend living in Panama. In addition to visiting San Blas, we visited El Valle de Anton for zip lining, the indigenous tribe at Embera, Gamboa (Money Island), did a short city tour and a sunset catamaran tour and did a partial transit of the canal. Every event was amazing. The downside...TRAFFIC. It is a real problem in Panama. There is one bridge and only a couple major roads. Sometimes a 15-minute ride can take 2 hours. Not the fault of the resort, but an issue for sure. Be sure to leave enough time to get where you are going and don't expect to arrive back at any specific time. They are working on a metro system and a new bridge and they can't be finished soon enough! If you are considering a trip to Panama, this is a beautiful place to be! It is about 45 minutes from the airport and about 20-30 minutes in to the city, traffic permitting.
The hotel staff was very courteous. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained. We booked an all inclusive package and it was well worth the money. The ladies, Nila, Berta and Damaris that work at the Spa were so very sweet and accommodating. They were truly the best part of the vacation!
An average Westin experience- nice rooms, thin walls, 4 pools that are a bit dilapadated (tiles falling off, not feeling so clean in the water). So-so restaurants with good but slow service. Generally, not too far off from expectation in the region. The taxis recommended at the concierge are extremely overprices (5x the Uber costs from the front), and we were told a few white lies about there being no restaurants open in the old city, casco viejo.... We're used to this kind of thing, but woudl expect more from a westin. the rooms were perfectly clean, great A/C, standard SPG ammenities.
My husband ordered from the menu at Starfish Restaurant. He ordered spaghetti with chicken and Alfredo. It was excellent. My daughter and I ordered from Asiana. The food was soooooo good. Edamame was cooked very uniquely cooked and was topped with an interesting flaky salt. Chicken teraki cooked to perfection. Sushi really good and chicken lollipops with honey and siracha. But most importantly we have to thank Yanina for exceptional service. She was more than accommodating and very friendly. She took great care of us. Big Thank you to her and the rest of the wait staff Jonathon, Noel and Daria. Lovely team!
We booked this hotel last-minute through hotwire and got an amazing rate. We upgraded to a Club room, which included breakfast, snacks and drinks and evening hors d'oeuvres and alcoholic drinks every day on a rooftop terrace with an amazing view. From our room, we had an amazing view of the entire bay and beyond. Since there are only two hotels in this bay, it felt like a real retreat. Yet, it is close to Panama City and all the attractions such as the Canal and the national park. However, if you do not have a car, you may feel isolated. We drove down the coast a few kilometers and found some wonderful local restaurants for dinner on the beach. The hotel was basically deserted when we arrived, but filled up over the weekend with people from Panama City. I would definitely return to this location or to any other Westin hotel.
