From the moment we walked in, my wife and I were treated like royalty. The accommodations were exceptional, the staff was kind and helpful, and the food was superb! Being in the hospitality industry for over 30 years, my expectations were high and we were not disappointed!
Where do I start, what an awesome experience. Went there with my family and we all had a wonderful time. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and the service was always friendly. We would definitely go back to this resort again.
My husband and I have traveled to the Caribbean often and have stayed in both all inclusive and traditional resorts. For the last few years we have been bringing along our children (11 and 6) and love the convenience that all inclusive resorts offer. Overall we had a great family vacation! We read reviews about the "terrible/unusable beach" so we were not expecting much. I feel calling this beach terrible is really not doing it justice. We thought the view was beautiful. Yes, there is seaweed. Yes, you feel like you are swimming in seaweed soup at times. But walking along this beach really makes you feel like you are in a remote paradise. The resort has put a small bar and lounge area down from the main resort. It was really charming. We thought the food was good- better than some resorts, not as good as others. The three a la carte restaurants were all good, but service was very slow. This was not a big deal for us, but might if you have younger kids. We were able to get reservations in all three but not all were open every night. My recommendation is to make reservations as early in the week as possible for all nights. There was a night we could not get reservations, but it just happened once. The family times are suppose to be 6:00 and 6:30 but they are not strict about that at all. They are strict about the dress code for men. They didn't say anything to my 11 year old son for wearing shorts, but he did have on closed toe shoes and a collared shirt. They did say something to another boy because he had on a sweatshirt and flip flops. I would bring one pair of pants, enough collared shirts and a pair of closed toe shoes just in case. The pool area was great. I read some reviews about it not being cleaned, but we saw them cleaning it often. We all enjoyed the lazy river, pool and water slides. There are two slides. One is open which leads to a pool and another very small slide. They allow small children to ride with parents. The other slide is a closed pipe slide and they do NOT allow children to ride with parents. The sign says 48" to ride alone but they are not strict with this. My daughter is a little shorter but I walked up with her and told them she can swim fine and they let her go by herself without any problems. My kids also loved the swim up bar! I loved that the kids were on one side and the adults were on the other! There was one big problem with this resort.... noise. The rooms are not well insulated. Now, we had very noisy neighbors that liked to play a game called who can yell "quit yelling" the loudest. They all won..... Even when they weren't playing we could still hear them and other people outside of our room. We certainly do not expect families with teens to keep the same hours as our family. We were in bed early because our kids are often up by 6:30. I heard another family complaining about this issue as well, so I would recommend a quite at night and a quite in AM section of the Splash rooms. The second part of the noise issue was the people visiting. There were several large, multi-generational families visiting which is wonderful. However they were so LOUD! We expected noise at a family resort. Kids will have breakdowns, they will be rowdy. The kids were not the problem, the adults were the problem. They liked to play a game called how much profanity can I shout. They also all won...... I have never been around so many loud and obnoxious people. So, what do you do about it? Coconut Bay does not want the reputation that this is the type of people who visit. Management must instruct staff to address inappropriate, loud behavior immediately. I really think it would help. What do I wish I had brought? I wish I had brought a noise machine. There is an outlet for american electronics in the room, but bring a converter for the other outlets. I also wish I had brought a hair dryer. The one in the bathroom was terrible and the other one in the room was broken. My husband wishes he had brought his iPad since there is now free wifi, but it is so spotty it almost doesn't matter. I AM glad we brought individual bagged snacks. The tours often don't get back until 1 or 2. I am also glad we brought plenty of sunscreen - recommend at least 4 bottles per family. Besides the noise I thought the rooms were fine. There was plenty of storage for us and it was a decent size. Yes they could use some love. I believe they have started renovating the bathrooms. We had an older bathroom and it was adequate. The shower does leak, like many other Caribbean resorts we have visited. Just roll up a towel and place on floor against the shower. This helps a lot. The AC(air conditioner) is amazing. This was the best we have ever had in the Caribbean. Those of us in the south love a good AC!!! We took two tours. One was the giant green jeep safari and the other was the Piton half day snorkel. While we like both, we would recommend the snorkel if you could only do one. Go to the coconut bay website for prices and tour descriptions. Overall we had a good family vacation. The only thing I would do differently would be to go a different time of year. We get out of school before Memorial Day. If we had gone then, maybe my 6 year old would just be bringing home a sweet souvenir instead of a whole new vocabulary. Please message me if you have any additional questions. I know that has been helpful to me in the past!
We went to Coconut Bay on an extended family vacation. We were met with smiles and drinks. The rooms were exactly as they appear in brochure. The grounds were always clean. Everyone enjoyed the pools, slides, and lazy river. Food and drinks were plentiful and of high quality. I would recommend this resort to those looking for a family vacation. However, if you are looking for white beaches and blue water, you will not find that at this resort. They do go above and beyond to make the beach accessible.
This is hotel is awesome. Brilliant caring smiley staff, always say Hi to you!! Food is very good standard drinks are great too, lots of cocktails very drinkable. Trips via the hotel are expensive so book with beach dudes for half price. Wi-Fi fast free and everywhere. Beds are extremely comfortable!
