As many others have shared, East Winds is a gorgeous, tropical retreat with excellent food and a warm and caring staff. We were so pleased with our decision to stay at East Winds and I look forward to a return in the future. I would say our most pleasant and unexpected surprise of our stay was New Year's Eve. I might have expected a few hats or noisemakers to mark the holiday, but instead we were treated to three different musical acts, lots of excellent champagne, special appetizers, noisemakers, hats, decorations, and a full fireworks show to top it off! It felt like a party with 60 new friends! A complete and unexpected surprise and one you can tell the East Winds staff really enjoyed. Kudos for helping us kick off the new year in style!
This was our first visit to East Winds, we booked short notice because we were unhappy with our initial accommodations on the island. I am so glad we did! We have never considered ourselves partial to "all inclusive" hotels before, but East Winds is different. It's small, not crowded, has beautiful natural looking gardens and grounds, has a gorgeous beach with lots of beach chairs/thatched shelters (no need to "reserve" anything, there are plenty of them and plenty of space in between them), and the food, wine and service are just superb. We stayed in a beachfront room and loved the sound of the ocean and the view. Each meal we had was absolutely fantastic, and the staff are absolutely lovely. The beautiful main 'lounge' is the perfect spot for a drink, a game, a chat, or a peaceful respite during a rainy spell. You can really tell this is a resort run by people who care that you have a great experience. We met Judith, the GM, and she was welcoming and friendly and immediately put us at ease. We don't usually repeat our holidays, but we will definitely return to East Winds.
My husband and I spent a week at East Winds over the New Year, and it went above and beyond our expectations. We fell in love with St. Lucia's beautiful beaches and wonderful weather, but we didn't want to go to one of the big rowdy resorts, so the reviews of this well-kept secret caught our eye.Not only was East Winds a very cozy, personal atmosphere, it was also well thought-out to the last detail. The staff were amazing in every way, the food was delicious at every meal (and especially the big NYE gala), and the drinks were made with top shelf ingredients. The beach was beautiful, and the new refurbishments are lovely and more modern. Most of the guests were middle aged British couples, but my husband and I (as twenty-something Americans) met some other younger folks and very much enjoyed getting to know the other visitors...including one group that had been coming back to East Winds for 16 years! We have traveled a lot and usually say that we'd rather visit new places than return to ones we've already seen, but East Winds is an exception. It was worth every penny we spent, and we'll definitely be back in the future!
Only roughly 30 cottages, lower number furthest from beach, pool, and restaurant. Lovely guest but crowds are bit more seasoned. The staff is incredibly accommodating and I do not believe I ever heard the word no. Even when the wife and I wanted to take a bottle of champagne on the Hobe-cat for afternoon sail, they walked over the bucket of ice and two plastic flutes. Everyone of the staff was helpful and always had a smile. They have actives everyday some Included in price and only 3 not included. Check the itinerary prior to booking so as not to miss things such as there cultural grill out on the beach followed by them taking guest to town that evening to experience local cultural street party. Saturdays they take you to local shopping excursion (this is all included). If you want to party and meet singles this is not it, but if you want complete quiet relaxation and be taken care, this is it. They have one restaurant and the food mainly hit the mark. There were only few misses. Also asked for Paul to drive you from airport and back, $90/way. He is very nice and always in for lively chat, he generally uses a Lexus LS.
Yes, but by now it's the minutiae that become important! The new bathrooms in the colonial-style bungalows were long overdue and are a great improvement, complete with magnifying mirror, though with nowhere to hang your wet swimming gear! The beach drinks service, which was introduced last year but failed to appear, was spot on this year with regular morning and afternoon visits. Having done most of Simeon's tours last year we were delighted by the addition of a new one, taking in a wonderful doctor's house above Rodney Bay with fantastic views, and a hike round Pigeon Island. The exclusive sunset cruise remains a highlight, and, most important, for the first time ever, my wife's fairly modest diabetic diet requirements were actively met. Our initial strong disappointment that the previous Canadian manager had dispensed with the steel band - a Saturday lunchtime highlight - turned to joy when Judith, the current MD, reacted immediately and brought them back. In fact, they then featured on the web site! It must be a major challenge trying to continue to please the many aging multiple returnees while attracting the next generations....but it still seems to be working. What's the best bit? Being greeted with what feels like genuine friendship and many hugs, by the ever-faithful staff who have had a pretty traumatic couple of years but still emerge smiling! Good on you all.
