The resort consists of thirty cottages dotted amongst lovely gardens (4 on beach). There is aspa, yoga pavilion and fitness trail. The small pool has a swim-up bar.Two bars flank thee restaurant, only one has ceiling fans and there is only one fan in the restaurant.A small gift shop is outside close to the dining gazebos. The beaches are either side of the restaurant.Lots of loungers,no need to reserve, nobody did.We were there May 2 - 16.Now the Ms.The resort guide in our cottage states under maintenance "in the unlikely event of a fault.." Well how unlikely is maintenance coming NINE times to fix 5 faults.? They were resolved.Meals:Breakfast consisted of a small buffet.Sliced bread and muffins(often still frozen).Metal tureen so of tomatoes, beans, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs.Pancakes and other eggs were cooked to order.People queued for these! Lunch was either buffet or bbq.Again more tureens. The kebabs were chewy and only ever two sauces, bbq or lime butter.Dinner was much improved on the latter. Most were very pleasant but definitely not fine dining or gourmet. The wines were different each evening and of a reasonable quality to good.Must mention that drinks were not premium label.Manager-She presented herself at our lunch table announcing "My staff tell me that you are going to contact the board of directors. Here are the details with mine " We didn't need these as neither of us had said this or even intimated it.We do not discuss our business or intentions with guests or hotel staff. We are professional people and know the importance of checking before acting! We found this false accusation insulting. We did despite all of this, enjoy our stay. However we feel it is one of those hotels that make you say "Oh what could be ".The staff are friendly and eager to please.Special thanks to Miriam for sorting my allergy needs and Shamsa for her skills! Will we return?Maybe now we know what to expect.Unique yes because we have never queued for meals before or had so many problems with a room. Finally the hotel next door is having building work done. You can hear this all day everyday (told will end Xmas).
Well what can we say? Our second year running at this magnificent hotel and we’re pleased to report that it’s as good as ever. Accommodation, Bungalow 13, has been updated and was bright and comfortable with the new added luxury of a clothes airer to dry swim wear. At last a hotel that thinks about practical things!!! The staff were as attentive and happy as ever and the setting allowed for 100% relaxation, disturbed only by the dull thud of dropping mangoes!New breakfast arrangements were tried out, see review by grumpyoldchap, but after guest feedback normal service was resumed. Well done to Judith for being so visible, trying something new but listening to guests opinions. We took advantage of two trips arranged by East Winds, The Sunset Cruise and the Distillery Tour, and both were extremely well organised and in our opinion good value for money. Because the trips are arranged by East Winds for East Winds guests, you get a personal, tailored and exclusive service. “Good Vibes” Simeon also arranged a dolphin and whale watching trip for us with the excellent Captain Lolo. Whilst sightings were not particularly abundant on the morning we went out, this wasn’t through lack of trying and we did get to see a considerable amount of the coastline and the Piton’s as Captain Lolo tried everything possible. For any prospective newbies, please look at the East Winds arranged trips before you speak to your rep and if you don’t see what you’re looking for, do speak to Simeon. Judith – I hope our suggestion of a trips noticeboard in `Simeon’s Area' pays dividends. To all staff at EWI you have made two special holidays very SPECIAL so thank you again for all your hard work, service and friendliness. Like many guests, we will return!!
We came to Eastwinds over the Easter Holidays this year at the beginning of April for a family holiday 2 adults and 2 children ages 11(son) 13(daughter) I wanted to write this review as so many people have said they think Eastwinds is better for couples (sorry to ruin your secret hideaway) but I think it is also perfect for families. I was slightly nervous about the drive to Eastwinds, having heard about windy roads but we all loved it! We had a quick transfer in an air-conditioned mini bus on a Sunday of 1 1/4 hours through very scenic countryside with amazing views as well as driving through the rainforest. The driver went slowly, giving us a guided tour en route. There are many things that make Eastwinds so special but here is why we liked it. We stayed in 2 superior cottages which were perfect for us. I was a little apprehensive as the children were in one cottage and we were in another, but they were adjoined and it's hard to explain but once you are at Eastwinds you feel so safe and happy, you know it is just fine. Our children loved having their own cottage with a fridge stocked up with their favourite drinks, bathrobes, slippers, and the best, the housekeeping so their rooms were all tidy when they got back! We think the Superior cottages are the best for families with children our age, close to the pool, restaurant, bars and beach and our children just wandered about making themselves feel right at home. We also liked Eastwinds for it's understated elegance and how the cottages are nestled in the wonderful tropical gardens, with crabs and humming birds and giant caterpillars to delight my son. What's there for children to do. an awful lot if they are similar ages to mine. It is important that children can swim well to fully enjoy Eastwinds. The beach is stunning and we always had loungers, even for 4 of us when we weren't on trips. There is a slight drop into the sea and a coral reef, another reason why we chose Eastwinds. My children would be in there for hours, snorkelling and photographing the fish. They did see so many things, Trumpetfish, eels, Parrot fish and many more. There are also sea urchins and I would advise beach shoes and maybe a wetsuit but after a couple of days, they both got to know the reef and would became experts at where to go. Next the Watersports, Wesley was amazing and spent a lot of time with the children as there were other families also staying at Eastwinds! My children tried all the watersports, which are non-motorised which we liked. Hobie-Cats, Pedalos, kayaks, paddle boards. He even set up some beach games for them. They certainly kept him busy when other guests didn't need help with anything. The Food as everyone has said is fantastic. Our children ate absolutely everything. I have to say the day evolves around the wonderful beachside restaurant as you would never want to miss a meal. We would also all have a cocktail in the beautiful pavilion and play board games prior to dinner if we had the chance. The evening entertainment is sophisticated with accomplished pianists and singers which we really appreciated as our daughter is a singer and Titus ensured she got to sing on several evenings which was a great experience for her. We also did quite a few trips which were great and thanks to Simeon for sorting. We went on the Outstanding views tour, snorkelling trip and The Piton Day trip. All were great but the Piton day trip is a must with excellent snorkelling at Anse Cochon. Simeon also arranged a rainforest hike trip outside of the resort which we all enjoyed but be warned it is a 3 hour hike with 1 1/2 hours climbing upwards to begin with. The drive to it again was stunning and on all trips we found the driver's to be very considerate. When we return and I say when as you just have to return! we will do the Dolphin and Whale watching trip and I would also like to see the Botanical gardens and Castries. Finally, another reason for us choosing Eastwinds was to get married and we had such a wonderful day. Sylvanus, Emma and Glenda to name but a few made it so special. The flowers and decoration were stunning. There are many things I haven't mentioned that make Eastwinds special and these are in other reviews, but for a family who enjoy nature and spending time together Eastwinds is perfect. We would like to Thank Judith, Andy, Sylvanus, Titus, Emma, Glenda, Wesley, Simeon and everyone else in fact for making this such a wonderful holiday. We certainly miss all the happy and caring people that couldn't do enough for you and the Sun! I have to say I am writing this on probably the wettest day of the year here in England.
Excellent describes our visit to East Winds! From the initial booking confirmation with Glenda who was so helpful and informative, to our check-in with Charmaine, Gwen and Rochelle, we were treated with first class service. We appreciated the no hassle check in and everyone making sure we were comfortable. The grounds, gardens and rooms are immaculate and the massage by Theresa was very therapeutic and relaxing. The groundskeepers all smiled and greeted us each day and Simeon, the social coordinator went through extra lengths to arrange a snorkel tour we wanted. Wesley took us on a special hobie cat ride to "Rot Island" and provided a lot of interesting history of the islands. It seemed that whatever time we left our room in the morning, we would come back to a clean fresh smelling room. Bed comfort is superb and the view from the ocean front rooms will be in our memories for quite sometime. Meals were gourmet and the food prepares as first class cuisine. Selma, Patricia, Debbie and all of the staff provided an eating experience that was first rate and the bartenders never let a glass go empty. A final tour of the property from Judith was appreciated as I am a travel agent and wanted to see a sampling of all of the rooms. I will definitely recommend this property to my clients looking for a first class experience with first class customer service. As a parting service Elie had a lunch prepared for us without asking which was a great meal in lieu of the airport concession food. Cheers to everyone at East Winds resort and thank you for a wonderful experience!
I have often read that cocaine addicts waste their time and money chasing the euphoria their first high gave them. East winds is now our addiction and the brilliant experience of our first stay 10 years ago has improved with each of our four subsequent visits. The food and wine are of a very high standard with a variety of choice that is surprising given the small number of cottages. Paula's cooked to order eggs at breakfast are superb. Lunches are delicious with regular barbecues, some accompanied by steel band musicians. The wines at lunch and dinner are excellent and vary daily...I don't think I have ever seen so many straight men drinking rose wine at a lunchtime than I did at East Winds. Again the four course dinner is varied and delicious with three choices for each course and choices of excellent red, white and rose wines. As mentioned by many reviewers the staff in the resort are unbelievable with nothing being any trouble at all and all done with a natural, not a corporate, smile. The three managers over the last ten years have been either lucky or brilliant in their recruitment. It seems unfair to single out individuals but I will, thank you to Miriam, Selma, Curby, Debbie and to Patrisca for her lessons in cutlery juggling. Thank you to Windell and to Jervin(woo-hoo) and Devon for his relentless supply of drinks on the beach. Special thanks to two people for teaching me some new dance moves...Kerwin for the robot and especially to the legend that is Titus for teaching one never to be repeated move from Flashdance. Sylvia is a lovely addition to the team.Untold and often unseen work by the housekeeping staff and especially the gardeners who keep a fast growing tropical garden in absolutely pristine order should not go without mention. First time guests are quite easily spotted by their inane grins at having discovered such a fantastic resort. Repeat guest have the same daft grin but with a smidgeon of smugness. Such is the level of happiness that it is difficult not to chat to guests that would otherwise not consider a conversation were they staying in a less happy place. The communal areas in the bars and on the beach are small enough to encourage such interaction and large enough to ensure solitude if you need to avoid a social landmine or two(me, for example). There is an excessive amount of sunbeds around the pool and on the beach. Pet peeve time, and it's not the fault of the hotel. Reserving sunbeds at 7.00/7.30 to begin using them 9.30/10.00. Selfish and unnecessary. It only took one couple to do it midway through our holiday for a mild panic created a snowball effect as first time guests thought that it was the norm to do so. It's always the Brits who do this and the Brits who follow. Absolutely no needThere is an array of excursions organised by the tireless Simeon so there is no need to be resortbound. All wind and human powered watersports are free and organised brilliantly by Wesley and Joe.Thanks to Reynolds for our daily chats and his philosophical view of the world.Apparently there is a round of enhancements and improvements scheduled for September so we are already saving for and planning our next fix.Simon and Carol
