We arrived to a warm welcome and a fruit punch. I booked a garden room and asked for a top floor. I got exactly what I requested and it included a sea view, It was fully refurbished and very nice. However, as we were staying for 11 nights and had a lot of luggage, a bit small for us. The staff kindly showed us several rooms, which were all lovely but we opted for a ground floor beach front luxury room (147) it isn't the most updated but very roomy and we just really liked it. Pictures included.There were a couple of issues with air con being very cold but the staff responded immediately to our concerns. There is a turn down service every night and they spray the room with mosquito spray, take them up on this, we used so much mozzi spray during our stay, time of year?. They apologised for any inconvenience and gave us a bottle of bubbly.The Trysting restaurant is lovely and the quality of food excellent. attention to detail second to none.Malabar Beach restaurant again excellent service and food, Terrace restaurant is where you have breakfast, lovely setting,.so much choice and all dietary requirements catered for with so many gluten free options. They have themed nights so its not always a buffet and when its not a buffet you need long trousers for gentleman. My husband wished he had taken more trousers and less dress shorts.Champagne bar, every night they have a different champagne or sparkling wine but worth checking as some were great and its the place everyone seems to gather between 7pm and 8pm. they do serve other drinks as well.The main bar is a lovely setting and great for socialising. All cocktails are made from scratch, in other All inclusives we have been served cocktails made in a jug at the start of the day, not good. Here they will make you whatever you want and have premium brands. House wine also good.There is a swim up pool bar and a great main pool, although we tended to stay on the beach.the spa is very luxurious, they have special offers but its not cheap, as a reluctant spa user i was very very pleased with my facial. There is also another pool here and a "lazy river" worth checking out.The beach beds are plentiful and once you get your bed the staff bring you bottled water in a wine cooler with good qualty glasses, you then get fruit punches, any drinks you want, ice popsicles, more drinks!!! if you leave your bed they change your towels and this continues all day. cold face cloths, nothing too much trouble.The staff are the best we have encountered and they do not want tips, its fround upon. They seem to really want to make your holiday great. A big thank you to Geo, Guilford, Frances and many many more.The entertainment and daytime activities are there but not forced upon you.The last couple of days there was a problem with hot water, again we were kept informed and compensated.To sum up, I have been to alot of all inclusives but this, to answer my own question, is the best one ive been to in the carribbean. Its a lovely couples hotel and they want you to have the best experience.To mention the comments about the graveyard, airport, locals and horses. Yes to all but the graveyard is very quiet :-) seriously it stops other developers so we saw it as a good thing. The airport is not a problem and a welcome distraction. Locals, we are in their country and we only saw very friendly people, horses, so lovely to see a bareback rider along a sea front. If its not for you then maybe St Lucia isn't either.A tip check excursions online as well as through the hotel. On leaving we were given a cold hand towel and a bottle of water. A great hotel with the best staff and location.I would defintly recommend this hotel, you will not be disappointed.
We stayed in May 2017, and since then we have been trying to get some sort of response from the hotel and First Choice about our many complaints about our stay. To date they have just fobbed us of, hence this review being posted so long after our stay.I did fill in the Customer Satisfaction Questionnaire upon leaving the hotel and they did follow up with an email, to which sent I sent a complaint letter back to her on three occasions and to date it has been ignored We are very lucky and travel 3 or 4 times a year , and are in our 50's, so we consider ourselves reasonable experienced travellersThe Good Points : Lovely staff, great weather, nice pool area and groundsThe Bad Points : The property is very shabby, and I know most Caribbean hotels are a bit shabby but this property is in desperate need of a refurbishment, the main central area and bar are very old fashioned and the furniture uncomfortable. There is certainly no wow or luxury factors here.There is a local airport right next to the hotel, and although there are no big planes going in and out , there is enough noise to spoil any ambience We felt unsafe walking along the beach, especially when you have passed the large graveyard that is also right next to the hotel one way and the derelict hotel the other way from the hotel.We spent a lot of money on an upgrade to a Luxury Beachfront Double Room with Balcony, when we walked into the room, it was dark and musty, with old dark furniture and then on closer inspection it was very poorly maintainedThe wardrobe light flickered even when the door was shut, and shone through the door, this was mentioned to reception but never fixed the whole time we were there. I opened the window and then couldn't shut it, maintenance came up and stuck a screw in the frame ( see photo). There was no hot water for 24 hours upon arrival and again no hot water on our third day just as we were in the middle of showering. The roof/glass wall leaked badly during a storm in the night, to be woken up to puddles all over the bathroom floor. These all go to show their attitude to maintenance is lacking.There is a no mini bar in the room , and if you wanted a drink in your room, you had to go the bar and take one up, very frustrating as it was quite a way to the bar, and I didn't want to get any sort of room service just for a drinkThe main complaint about room was that we couldn't use the balcony the whole time we stayed there, apart from taking few photos of the sunset. The balcony is so small its unusable, with an unusable round seat that you can't seem to sit on or lie on with any degree of comfort. The balcony seat and floor was filthy with bird droppings. These were never ever cleaned up on any day, even after telling reception, the same droppings were there the whole time. Before management say that the room is next to trees etc, the balcony was never cleaned once while we were there.They did offer a change of room but they only offered us a downgraded room and didn't offer any recompense for the money I had already paid out.I also found out that if you upgrade the room when out there, it is about 50% of what I was charged by First ChoiceThe pool bar area had a broken piece of cladding that fell of on our 3rd day and wasn't repaired when we left 11 days later.We met many lovely people on the holiday, but some got very ill with a sickness bug in our first week, the hotel sent a letter around about taking precautionsWe avoided this illness until I became very ill on the Saturday, 4 days before we went home, I was ill for 36 hours, slept for the next 24 hours and the couldn’t eat or drink for the rest of the holiday, My wife became ill on Monday evening and had to run out of the restaurant to be ill, she was ill for the same amount of time as myself but had to get up to fly home and with lots immodium etc she made it homeWe couldn’t leave the room for 3 days eachWe were still not right after three weeks at homeThis totally ruined our holiday and we didn’t eat or drink ( apart from water and ginger tea) for 5 daysThe hotel knew there was a problem as they issued a letter on the Thursday after we arrived, and again after we got ill and complained to the hotel. When there was lot of illness going around, they suddenly changed to bottle water, the glasses at the pool bar changed to disposable glasses and straws used but there didn't seem to be much other precautions, there was hand gel available as you went to the buffet but it was never enforced to be used, after my meeting with Yhasmine she promised that someone would stand at the buffet making sure the hand gel was being used but it never was.Some of the guests fed the numerous local stray cats from the table and then went to the buffet without washing their hands or using the gel, this is disgusting and should be stopped and I told the manager about this and nothing was doneThey didn’t take this illness seriously and it ruined our holidaysI arranged a meeting the manager who listened to me ( my wife was too ill to come out of her room) but she just smiled and sent me on our way without addressing any of our complaintsWe also arranged a meeting with The First Choice rep , who wrote all our various complaints down and I told that I am following the complaint procedure laid down by First Choice, ie: complain to your Rep at the time at the resort etc. and I told her that I would be taking this further upon our return, We have done so with First Choice but they have ignored our complaints and have said that the Rep on site has not sent in any report and sent us a very patronising letter saying that we got ill due to the humidity and that we were unused to travelling.This is the first time we have complained about a holiday in all the years of travelling, so we are not serial complainersAs with other reviews here, the Malabar Beach Restaurant was good but the portions were very small, Trystings was ok but a bit like stepping back to the 1960's, Buffet was hit and miss, some good and the some very bad This hotel and holiday does not represent good value and is very over rated in our opinion and is certainly not luxury, we went here with high expectations due to the positive reviews and hotel website but feel very underwhelmed with the whole experienceEven before we got ill, I asked my wife if she would want to come back here again and for the first time ever, she said she No she wouldn't, and nor would I. and that just about sums up this hotel
This was everything we hoped it would be and so much more. The staff are all just fantastic, they really do want you to enjoy yourself, this includes all of the behind the scene staff too. The rooms are spacious and very clean, as it the entire hotel. The activities, should you wish to join in are fun and we came home with several bottles of rum from prizes. We spent most of our time during the day around the water garden but there was nothing wrong with the pool or the beach. The food it fantastic in all areas and I’d be really hard pushed to say I favoured one restaurant over the other. The spa was welcoming and relaxing and the gym looked good although I have to confess it never made it to the top of my to do list! We enjoyed the mud bath excursion as well as the walks into Castries and the lighthouse, but the helicopter trip around the island was by far the best trip, flying over a rainbow was spectacular. I’d love to return here one day as I can really see why so many people had been there multiple times. The hotel was quiet with minimum occupancy so it would be interesting to see it at a slightly busier time, thank you Rendezvous and all of the staff for making this such a memorable time
We stayed at Rendezvous over Christmas and New year for two weeks, we are well travelled and holiday four times a year usually including Christmas and New Year.We did enjoy our stay but feel we must give our honest feedback as we did experience negatives.Firstly the positivesThe staff without question, they are probably some of the best we have ever encountered, very friendly, trying so hard to make your time good, excellent service, nothing is too much trouble they are a true asset to the hotel. The hotel grounds are lovely, the pools, the lazy river and the well kept gardens. The cleanliness of the rooms, public areas and grounds are very good. The food whilst not exceptional is of a good quality with a good choice.Unfortunately now in our opinion the negativesSome entry level garden view rooms are opposite the hotels very loud generator, the hotel did move us further away with very little problem which was good but it does effect a number of rooms.The occupancy of the hotel whilst we was there was very low, whilst in the day this was okay, there was no atmosphere or other people it felt in the evening, not ideal particularly for this time of year.The central area in the hotel for socialising is quite dated in terms of furniture, layout, stage area, dance area etc, again this was compounded by the fact it was almost empty most nights whilst we was there.The overall location of the hotel, whilst good to visit Castries, is not ideal, it is next to a very large graveyard running the length of the beach and at times home to many locals who appeared to be under the influence, to the other side is a derelict hotel with again what seemed to be the same problem.The local airport, whilst it did not spoil our holiday the noise is not just distant small aircraft noise, it is noise from small jets flying extremely low over the hotel, they are fairly regular although not at night. The propeller aircraft when turning and taking off from behind the hotel sounds like it is actually in the hotel.The noise of sirens from the surrounding area along with the hotel security guards on the beach gives the hotel an overall unsafe feel. We also felt the security guards tended to focus their attentions on passing tourists (actually potential new guests for the hotel) almost ‘jumping on them’ the minute they neared the hotel whilst leaving locals who appeared to be again under the influence of something, to stand staring at you, for hours on end whilst you sat on your sun-bed, or had dinner without taking any action to try to move them along.The beach is a public beach as I believe all are in St Lucia but is not very clean in areas, rubbish and debris along the shoreline is just left, we believe the hotel should take responsibility for this and give it the same attention they do to their hotel grounds.The Malabar has a lovely outlook for either lunch or dinner and the menu choices and food are good, but the portion sizes a really small.The Trysting Place, again food good, service good and menu choices good, but the surroundings are very dated, it has no atmosphere and is verging on pretentious.The hotel seems lost in its approach, ranging from trying to sell itself as a luxury romantic retreat introducing stolen moments with its cheesy innuendoes, trying to attract new guests and increase occupancy whilst trying to retain its qualities for its repeat guests, we believe it needs to in find its true focus and direction.
We loved our time at Rendezvous last May/June. Met lots of lovely people and made amazing memories. We were witnesses to A wedding of a couple we met there. I celebrated my birthday, My hubby celebrated his 50th birthday and we celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary there too. We had champagne & cake in our room every day courtesy of the management. The staff are the heart of this resort , never in all my travel have we met so many happy members of staff. They are a credit to the hotel. Are there niggles? Yes the horses on beach were scary at times as being ridden by kids with no experience and mistreating them. My husband went to help a young boy about 5 who was throw off and knocked unconscious fortunately we seen him a few days later playing in the sea so knew he was ok. But it is a public beach and we struck up conversations with lots of locals some of whom we are still in contact with. As long as you know in advance you can move to the pool area if you don't want to have a busier beach day. All in all I would go back in a heartbeat,its fabulous
