Sandals La Toc Golf Resort and Spa
- What's Included
- All Inclusive Features
Set on a hill over looking the ocean, Sandals La Toc features beautiful suites which offer amazing views but can be far from the main restaurant and beach. I guess to make up for this some of the rooms offer butler service. This resort is ideal for golfers as there is a 9 hole golf course on site. A great, quiet and relaxing atmosphere which is great for couples. Excellent service as is customary at all Sandals Resorts.
When Sandals say all inclusive they really do mean all inclusive. We have done all inclusive before in the Far East and Indian Ocean but Sandals all inclusive took it to another superb level. Nothing was to much trouble for any of the staff, and Toni who looked after us in the Premier Lounge was absolutely brilliant.
My husband and I came to this resort to celebrate our wedding anniversary and to complete my open water scuba certification. Overall, I expected more from this resort given the amount we paid to be there. We stayed in the main Sandals tower on the resort - Emerald Honeymoon Oceanview Room. No butler service. The room was very small. No balcony. No alcohol in the bar fridge. The bathroom does not have a fan - instead you have to open a window. This building has 7 floors - we were on the 6th. There were only a few days that the elevator worked...lots of stairs to climb. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. There are 3 pools - a large main one, a small quiet one near The Pitons restaurant and the pool by Armando's, which I found to be the best if you want less noise and a swim up bar. The water in the pool is kept extremely cold. Each pool also has a hot tub - the main pool has 2 but one never worked. The beach is VERY rough this time of year (December-February I'm told). We had one day with a yellow flag, the rest were red flag days. If you're not a great swimmer, I would highly recommend that you do not go in. There are not many chairs on the beach but we never had an issue finding chairs on the beach. The pools are another story. If you don't have a butler, you have to get up at 6AM to reserve your own. The worst is that sometimes people don't even show up when their butler reserved their spots. Overall the food was good. The restaurants are pretty good - Armando's for all meals was great, the pizzeria and Neptunes were great for mid-day. We loved the Pitons, La Toc and the Cricketer's Pub. The times things were opened were off, especially in the afternoon. We found ourselves waiting outside the pub in the afternoon as it's the only place opened at 4PM. If you have an early excursion or going scuba diving, the breakfast buffet only opens at 7:30AM leaving you with little time to eat. The buffet was weak - I've never been to a resort before with such a small buffet. And there is no room service. The drinks are great, when the liquor you want is available. Countless times the bars ran out of Chairman's rum - St. Lucia's own rum, and when we asked for more they said they didn't have any left. I find that surprising for such a "luxury" resort. For service, Priscilla at Neptune's was the best waitress ever! The other staff should really learn from her. The resort waited until 5th day we were there to send us a bottle of champagne for our anniversary. Once we had the do not disturb sign on the door and the cleaning lady banged on the room just to give us 2 face towels. We went to a Sandals to take advantage of the included scuba diving. My husband is certified but I was going to complete my open water certification. The water sports guys are great. We were totally satisfied with their service and our dives. We dove 3 days and did 6 dives: pitons, sugar beach, anse chastenat. It was great. Our dive masters were awesome. Yes at this resort you have to wake up early and take a bus through the busy downtown core to get to the marina. It was about a 15 minute ride. It's not so bad. I think the Grande has it's own dock vs going to the marina. We saw barracuda, lion fish, eel, octopus, angel fish, stone fish, lots of beautiful coral and some people even saw a turtle! My dive master was Hiram Hunte and he was awesome! In terms of entertainment, the DJ was good, there is a piano bar which is lively and various events at night. I highly recommend going to the street party on Friday nights. So much good, local food and great music and fun. Great taste of local culture. On Mondays and Saturdays locals come to the resort around the main pool to sell souvenirs. If you want to buy the local Chairman's Rum, buy it at the airport! Much cheaper! We also took the helicopter there and back as I heard nightmare stories about the bus ride to the resort. Overall, I feel we spent a lot of money for what we expected to be a luxury vacation and we just don't feel it was luxury at all. If you have a butler, it should be good, but otherwise it was an average vacation. In the future I'd rather spend more at a different resort chain and that would still be far less than what we paid for this trip. And then purchase scuba diving separately.
Our overall experience was average. The setting of the resort is unique but gives us a congested feel. The main disappointment was the cleanness of the room. The floor rag for the bed was old and dirty. Bathroom tub edges were dusty and toilet had yellow stains. Living room couch was dated. Considering we were in one of the more expensive units, one bedroom butler villa suite with private pool, the condition should be better. We stayed in another Sandals resort in Antigua two years ago. We had much better experience there.
Stayed at Sandals La Toc over New Year. Whilst St. Lucia is great we couldn't help wishing we had booked a different hotel. This was our first Sandals experience and it didn't live up to the marketing. Almost impossible to get a sun lounger unless you have a butler or get your towel down there by 7.30 am. If you want a quiet stay avoid the lower pool as this has music blaring out all day from around 11am. The beach and sea were unusable as the sea was too rough for the whole stay. Restaurants are overrated and are just too slow. We found the staff variable - if you get a good person they are great, however too many of them were just forgetful - especially in Armandos. Despite the lure of all inclusive keeping you at the hotel, my advice is get out of there on a few trips otherwise you get a bit stir crazy.
We were at La Toc for our honeymoon from Dec 9-16 2016. It was our first time at an all inclusive, though we do travel often as I work in the travel industry. We have a pretty good grasp on good food as we are both foodies, but far from snobby. Good food doesn't necessarily mean fancy. We love good Italian, French, steakhouses, American, Bar and grille's, etc. and this place had awesome food for an all inclusive. We did not have that high of expectations for the quality of food, but they really exceeded them. The service was "island style". I saw some people complain about how slow the service was, but from beginning to end at each restaurant it was decent service. It is certainly more of a relaxed island style service compared to American restaurants though. The room (sunset view room with a balcony and soaking tub), was excellent. Great views, great room, no issues with AC, the bathroom, etc. No issues. The butlers were very nice and always there to make your vacation better. They were limited as the property was short on golf carts so many times we took the shuttle instead which was really only a minor inconvenience at best. Really from top to bottom just a beautiful resort, with good food, drinks, a lot to do, and we would definitely recommend it. This resort, the food, drinks, and all around experience get an easy 5 stars. What I would give a negative number of stars and certainly BY FAR the worst customer service experience I have ever had would be when we tried to book our next trip. They were running a one day special while we were there to book a future trip with sandals, so we went to check it out. Nikisha at the travel desk was very nice and explained how we could book now, and change the dates with no fees if needed. Great! She said we could also book the airlines through them, and same deal with fees. I said no, we will book the flights ourselves incase we find better times, an airline we like better, or lower prices, but they said no problem, we will match it if you do. We went over all the fine print and she assured us there would be no downside to booking through them now as we could change for anytime in the future without penalty. My new wife had not changed her name yet (because we were traveling for our honeymoon), but was going to do so. So we asked to put her new name. She said we had to put her name down as is now, but could change it with no penalty once we officially changed her name. Well, let me assure you we were lied to. They booked the wrong dates, but we thought, oh well we can change them with no penalties right? Well as you might have guessed, wrong. There were all kinds of fees to change the airline. AND to change my wife's name (which we were NOT ALLOWED to fix at the time of booking). When we called the resort to ask for a couple of the papers we signed, and to speak to the agent we talked to, they kept telling us she wasn't available, and that they weren't allowed to send us the papers we signed and to call the 1800 number. We spent HOURS and days being bounced back and forth between La Toc and Sandals customer service. The first supervisor we finally got on the phone told us we were lying about the experience we had, and that they couldn't control the airline fees and there was nothing sandals could do. When asked about them reimbursing us or taking it off our bill with Sandals since we were told we HAD to sign the way we did, they kept telling us there was nothing they could do. Eventually after multiple weeks of being bounced around, people not getting back to us, telling us they couldn't help, being lied to, rude, etc... we eventually got a portion of the fees waived and a few Sandals points. The customer service was atrocious at best. Having worked for a couple world leaders in hospitality and a degree in the field, I know how tough it can be, and how some customers can just be out for free things. Let me assure you, I was very calm, and reasonable throughout the entire process, but Sandals representatives were not. We will book through a third party or ourselves and pray we NEVER have to contact Sandals "customer service" (and I use that term VERY loosely) again. The eventual small amount of points we got were not even close to worth all the trouble. Please NEVER book directly at a Sandals. You WILL regret it!
