It's small - and no kids. We liked our room - airy, the view was great, pretty quiet, we slept well (until the night the aircon fuse blew...).Excellent food and pretty consistently so - good combo of local ingredients and cuisine with a slightly unexpected and well executed Asian/Japanese twist.Great location overlooking the bay, Spacious serviceable gym with decent equipment. Big pool which is just as good for lap swimming as it is chilling out.So why not five stars?First, some maintenance issues - it was approaching off season which may be why but a number of areas clearly needed work. Our aircon broke overnight with no way of fixing it, our ceiling fan didn't work and night staff couldn't provide alternative fans. Our door handle came off. Just lots of wee things really.Second, for a luxury resort, letting some of your guests get hammered on margaritas by lunchtime, and noisily monopolise the pool isn't luxury or classy guys. Call me a snob if you want but if I wanted a spring break there are plenty of other places to have one. We went to relax not to listen to shouty drunk people round the pool.We also found the service in the restaurant was a little patchy - drinks sometimes took a long time to arrive, some staff at breakfast forgot things, orders at breakfast came with things missing.Overall a very relaxing place, with great food, but it's not 5 stars. Close, no cigar folks.
The Calabash Cove is somewhat of an enigma. Great location, some really caring and engaging staff, but just a little ‘tired’ infrastructure in parts. The good bits first – the food; excellent throughout. Although we’re Brits we live in the Caribbean and have sampled food all over. This was up there. Really enjoyable meals – although I have seen some somewhat extreme comments about seeking a Michelin Star – delusional I’m afraid. It’s good but not in the same league. Then some of the staff – the waiting staff couldn’t have been more engaging and personable as were the bar staff around the pool. The view is great as the sun goes down – ideally sitting in the pool. Very nice. The room was fine – comfortable and all you could want complete with a Jacuzzi. The not so good – I’d booked a taxi via email some 4 weeks ahead of our arrival to pick us up at the airport. I confirmed again two days before. All good so I was told. Get to the airport and no taxi. Called front desk and the lady there cut the call off when she realised what she had failed to do. OK this is no biggy; everyone makes mistakes, just fix it. But when I finally got through again on the fourth call she said the taxi was stuck in traffic. On Good Friday Public Holiday – I’m not that stupid. And when the taxi did arrive the driver asked why we hadn’t pre-booked as he’d only just had the call. So the front desk lady had directly lied. Not impressive. To be balanced they did give us a bottle of fizz as recompense but why not be straight? Bad first impression.I mentioned about the infrastructure. The floor in the dining area is shabby; some of the chairs are broken and you have to swap them. During our four day stay there was constant electric sawing going on as they revamped one of the cottages. Did it really need to be done over a holiday weekend?I’ve mentioned about the pool bar and watching the sunset. Oddly the bar at the pool closes at 5pm – so you have to traipse upstairs to get a drink when all the customers are in the pool. Weird.Needless to add, we didn't get the front desk to arrange anything thereafter. So all in all, I’d say good place, nice staff in general, but poor management. All fixable – but will someone do something about it?
If I could rate this resort any higher, I definitely would! My husband and I are just finishing up the most spectacular vacation at Calabash Cove. We are fortunate enough to have stayed at more resorts than I could count throughout the Caribbean & Mexico because of my career as a travel concierge with Beach Bum Vacation and I can honestly say, I've never stayed anywhere where the staff has compared to Calabash Cove. Every single employee we met, whether they worked in management, front desk, maintenance, housekeeping, spa or food & beverage was SO warm, happy & genuinely friendly. I've really never experienced anything quite like it and the people really made all the difference in our vacation. Anything we requested was always obliged with a wide smile and often a nice dose of humor. :) I will probably miss someone but those that stand out: Keneca, Treyvon, Sonny, Kevin (Hart), Kriss (Mr Fabulous), Lance (Sir Lancelot), Shanelle (#5), Marlon (Wayons), Paul (Walker), Laurena & Marsha. Beyond the friendly staff, we also couldn't get enough of the food...every thing we ate was delicious. In particular, we loved the duck breast, catch of the day (grouper, mahi, snapper), grilled or tempura shrimp, goat cheese & beet salad, caesar salad, smoked salmon bagels...everything was great! :) I also had a wonderful massage & facial at the spa courtesy of Laurena. If you are thinking of going here and you enjoy a relaxing, quieter vacation atmosphere, I would 110% recommend Calabash Cove for your time in St Lucia! :)
My wife and I had the most amazing honeymoon at Calabash Cove. Every aspect of the resort was PERFECT. The staff starting with Rohan, really made us feel welcome and did whatever they could to make our stay even better. The food was absolutely fantastic for every meal and the views were absolutely breathtaking! This resort is a bit pricey but for the value, and privacy it is worth every penny!
We visited Calabash Cove for a belated 15th anniversary in December 2016. Though it was a bit pricey, we decided to splurge on a swim up room. It was SO worth it! The room was right on the pool which allowed us to order room service and sit poolside, while looking over the bay, every morning for breakfast. We typically ate lunch by the pool as well, ordering at the swim up bar, as we laughed with bartenders Chanel and Lance (they are a hoot!) We had dinner each night in the hotel's restaurant where live music entertained guests (there was different local musician each night which allowed us to hear several styles of music.) The best thing about this hotel is the seclusion. It's off the beaten path, literally, and with around 50 rooms, the resort doesn't seem overwhelmed with people. We got to know a few couples really well and are planning to visit one set over the the summer in Washington DC. If you want a quaint spot where the staff is warm and caters to your every need, Calabash Cove might be for you.
