Fourth Visit, But Not Our Last

We have been to St. James's four times as a family and have always enjoyed our time there. We have investigated other resorts, on other islands, but have yet to find any that offers the amenities and value we have found there within a similar price point.

Amazing place

This is truly an amazing place, from the minute we arrived there to us leaving we didn’t want for nothing. The staff are soo friendly and will bend over backwards to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The room was also really clean and well maintained our cleaner Valery did a fantastic job. Where do I start with the food we did not have a bad meal the food was always fresh and hot and it wasn’t repetitive like most all inclusive, you need to book a meal at Le Jardin the food and the atmosphere is 2nd to none well worth the 35 dollar per person supplement also Babmbo was brilliant!!! Marlon our waiter had us in stitches and it was also a great touch when they brought my husband a special desert and sang to him for his birthday. I could go on forever, can’t wait to go back which we definitely will. Oh and 1 last thing the Joy Cruise is a must!!!!

Good vacation at SJCMB

I stayed at SJCMB with my husband for 11 nights in January 2018. St.Lucia was our 5th tropical island and our 14th all inclusive resort. My review is based on comparing it to other places we have been. There were things I loved about this place, there were things I found pretty average and there were things I did not like at all. I’ll mention them in that order.I loved our room location... we were in a Beachfront room, building six, bottom floor, room 606. We had a fantastic location. To the left we had a beautiful ocean view, were we could watch the cruise ships coming into Castries and some of the most spectacular sunsets I’ve ever seen. To the right we were just steps away from the beach. The location is perfect! Close to everything! The room was very comfortable and spacious, the bed was extremely comfy...the room was clean and had plenty of towels and toiletries. But cleaning service came by way too late in the day! They often showed up at 4:30 -5 pm while we were trying to get ready for dinner. The grounds of this resort are very well kept and beautiful, flowers everywhere plants that are kept well manicured and tidy. The beach is nice, the sand is kept clean and it’s soft on the feet... the ocean however will be mentioned in the things I did not like at all section. The pools are all very nice and kept clean. The people of StLucia are very friendly, the staff as well as locals off the resort always smiling and always greeted us pleasantly. The service though will also be mentioned in the things I did not like. The food was very average, the breakfast buffet got very boring after a few days. The lunch and dinner buffet was better as they offered different ethnic themes for each day, which helped to provide some variety. Some items were great while others were just mediocre...but food is a matter of taste for each person, so what I did not like others may have! We did not find any of the al a cartes outstanding... we did not even try to eat at any of them more than once! We did not eat at La Jardines as I was not willing to pay the $35 USD per person at what is supposed to be an all inclusive resort! None of the restaurants offered steak or lobster unless you were willing to pay a hefty surcharge... which we were not! I really feel they could improve the al a cartes a lot...but that’s just my opinion! The things I really did not like at all were, the fridge in the room is not stocked at all, no water, no soft drinks, nothing, so not a true all inclusive when I have to purchase these things. The ocean was very murky, almost muddy! When I was in a foot of water I could not see my feet, and to make it worse, there was a lot of seaweed due to some previous rough surf,so swimming in the ocean (for me anyway) was not an option. This was really disappointing as I love the ocean so much. I had read reviews claiming the water was not clear, but I had no idea it would be as bad as it was. Of course this is not the resorts fault in any way, but I feel it’s important to add it to the review. I was also not impressed with the service, it was really hit and miss...some days it was outstanding and some days it was non existent. To be clear though, it’s not that the people weren’t pleasant, because they were, it’s just that at times it was like we were invisible. The last thing I totally disliked is the lack of wifi! It’s advertised free in 2 public areas of the resort but so many times I could not pick it up at all even in those areas. This may not bother some people, but it was a deal breaker for me. I had family and pets I wanted to check on daily and sometimes I had to go back to the area 3 or 4 times to get reception. Would it really be that hard to upgrade this? Far less expensive resorts we have been to offered free wifi throughout the resort! In closing, St.Lucia has always been on my bucket list, so I’m glad I went! It’s a very beautiful scenic island, however Im not sure I will return! And Unless the price of the resort was reduced a lot, I wouldn’t come back to SJCMB! The lack of the crystal clear ocean I love about the Caribbean is really the reason for my decision. But for the money spent, I know there are much nicer/better resorts available, in other places. We had a good vacation, and appreciate how blessed we are to get to travel as we do, and I very seldom give a negative review, but this was one of the most expensive places we’ve been and so for that reason I cannot give a better opinion.

A most excellent all-inclusive resort

We were two couples staying in building 9, one of 4 newer buildings on the north side of the property. The accommodations were wonderful - a large balcony accessible by the bedroom and living room. If you require strong and stable wifi as I do to keep up with business back home book in building 9, 10, 11 or 12. Their rooms/suites are wifi enabled. Cost is either $10USD/day or $57USD/week. Otherwise wifi in the lobby and Sunset lounge are free but shared by so many that service in unstable and not suited for heavier usage. The facilities are meticulously maintained. All the staff were polite, friendly and attentive. The food is excellent. We ate at 4 of the 6 available dining facilities. The one restaurant that requires a $35USD up-charge per person is worth every penny - Le Jardin. French cuisine as good as you get in any major city. Also recommend Morgan's Pier - reserve on your first day there. We ate there twice. The view and atmosphere are most relaxing and enjoyable. The entertainment is great especially the Wednesday night outdoor show and cookout! The resort is well laid out with a very nice beach and several pools affording everyone variety and space. Head up to the hillside pool for sunset. The water sports equipment is equally well maintained. We took out the catamarans a half dozen times. Waterskiing and wake-boarding are included. Only rental of Seadoo-type crafts ( two of them available ) cost extra. Check the daily activity board in the Sunset lounge so you don't miss out on your favorite fun thing to do or trying something new - you're on vacation after all. Highly recommend the Land & Sea excursion. It's a full day of sightseeing and activity. It covers 80% of the western coast of the island. We also booked a snorkeling outing with Steve's Dive Shop. This was the single weak spot in our vacation, not Steve's or the Club's fault. We are spoiled having experienced exceptional snorkeling spots in the Caribbean. While the snorkeling was just good by our standards we still very much enjoyed this experience. Both outings were booked through the resort's excursion's counter. They appear to have vetted all the options they offer so you are basically assured of a good time. You witness guests returning from outings with big smiles and confirming how much they enjoyed their experience. The island is the most mountainous we have visited and so incredibly lush. Visit the Diamond Botanical Gardens even if you are not into flowers. It's like foliage on steroids. Amazing. It's part of the Land & Sea tour including the drive through volcano. We planned on hiking the Gros Piton - one of the two highest peaks on the island - but I broke my toe on a plastic beach lounger on the first day (LOL) so there went our hiking plans. We will have to come back to complete our mission and will certainly stay at the St-James Morgan Bay resort again.
