let me start by saying that i will review each area seperatly :resort : the resort was well laid out and our room was fine. The air conditioning was lacking but this is typical in the carribean. We are seasoned travelers and alway stay all inclusive at medium sized resort. the overall cleanliness was good but it was the slow season staff: Bar tenders not very pleasant during the day (except NIGIL) big shout out to him! overall they just seemed very bothered by serving you. wait staff at night seemed pleasant and attentive and while the wait times at resturaunts could be a little long it was worth the wait. food: Buffet .. well come on people it is a buffet. we always found something we liked and the food was par to above par .other resturaunts -- well I dont know what other people are talking about but the food was ABOVE average, even great most nights and above what i am used to at other resorts .WIFI - limited and only good in two places on the resort - very normal vor the carribean and ok for a quick catch up online but hey if you gonna spend all day online - stay home !!! the biggest disappointment was wifi not available at the coffee shop -- would have been the perfect spot in the morning since they dont let you take coffee out of the coffee shopoverall the resort was good - check in was a little long but we asked for a room change and they accomadated us very nicely so no owrries there 5 stars and HUGE shout goes out to PAM the wedding coordinator. as a nervous groom and not having spoken with anyone about arrangements until we met with he the morning of our wedding i just knew it was going to be a miss. BOY WAS I WRONG! Pam was very professional and polite and had her buisness in order. All the paperwork was done that morning and everything from the flowers to paperwork to every detail was perfect. even with a small mistake on the paperwork it was all handled and delivered back to our room. All we had to do was sign and she handled everything else. I could not have asked for anything more.. NOT ONE THING ! I hope this resort does eveything possible to hang on to her -as a manager over a large group I understand the value of good help and she is tops !!I would also like to mention that we did not even tell the resort about getting married until the week before we arrived and all we heard was GREAT -- NO PROBLEM -- WE WILL TAKE CARE OF IT --- and bam it happened !!! The BAD > we started noticing that especially on weekends the pools were getting full, then we figured out that we were standing in line behind locals and could not use bathroom by the pool -- filled with locals changing etc.. I have never PAID that much money per day to stand in line behind locals allowed on property . I venture to say they did not pay much if anything for the same things I was getting .. very very dissappointed and will not return to a ST JAMES CLUB becuase of this practice. made me feel like they wanted us to pay for the locals a place to play. not a problem if you know this up front !! watersports .. resort only half full and have to sign up for a hobie cat -- yes 4 on the beach not being used but one person signed up in the next hour so had to wait ? just a lack of help from watersport staff -- too busy sitting in the shade smoking !the wed beach bar b que was good as well but overall disappointed mainly due to staff and locals on property if you have any questions please feel free to contact me thanks !!!
Not sure why there are a lot of complaints about the food. Thought the food was good in all places except- Morgan's Pier which also had bad service. The grounds were great, the bartenders- especially Theresa and Iggy were excellent, Joy's cruise is a must- beach not so good this time of year so be warned- it was the rainy season-so waters are turned up- also we did not have much rain to speak about-but anyway- The room was clean and well kept and the views were awesome- best spot- Hilltop Bar
This review is a long time coming but as I look to book for our annual escape, I'm thinking back to so much that was great for us at this resort on the island of St. Lucia. We travel to the Caribbean each year to escape the punishing Canadian winter for a week of sun and surf and fun. Our group is sometimes a group of families with a mix of ages but this year it was just my hubby & I. (Both early 50's)We've done giant 5 star resorts (the kind you need to take a tram to get to the beach) and smaller resorts right on the beach with fewer than 150 rooms. We've been to All inclusives in Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Barbados, and St. Lucia.I read a lot of reviews on this resort before booking and while we were counting down to arrival. Most of the reviews on this resort captured the key points pretty accurately. We prefer smaller resorts that are right on the ocean with low-rise buildings, lush gardens and great water-sports amenities. We went to the resort with a pretty good idea of what it would be like based on great reviews by others and here are our thoughts:Location - the resort is 1.5 hrs away from the airport. Our flight felt long to us (5hours 20 mins). However we fly direct from Toronto and hearing some of the layovers that US visitors had in their journey we realized theirs was outrageously long. We enjoyed the chance to see a bit of the island on the way to the resort. St. Lucia is a really lush tropical island. The mountains and rainforest are beautiful. Yes, the road is winding with some hairpin turns. I do recommend Gravol if you are prone to motion sickness. However it is very well paved and safe feeling and our driver was great. The Lucian people were really welcoming - almost anyone we talked to asked if we were enjoying our time in St. Lucia and welcomed us to come again. We really enjoyed walking around in in Rodney Bay. Beach - It is a small cove beach but wide enough to accommodate everyone without feeling packed-in. If you are a long beach-walker you will be disappointed (we're not) as you hit the end of the property quite quickly.Water is a bit murky with sand (so not good for resort snorkelling) however it is a hard-packed sand bottom, very warm and gradual entry - perfect for all-ages. Water is generally calm. Lots of shade under the canopy of trees and lots of loungers and umbrellas anytime you walked down to the beach. I'm an early riser and saw the team of gardeners who rake the lovely white soft sand daily - the beach was so clean and tidy. The resort has beach drink service - wow - just put up your red flag and bingo there is a friendly server there to take your order. Resort and Rooms - The resort has a traditional colonial style. If you want a super contemporary look - this is not for you. The size and set-up was perfect for us - we like low rise, right on the beach with lots of lush gardens. The Beachfront room rooms we had in respect to the resort layout did not disappoint - everything is close (steps to the beach, the bar, the pool, the restaurants) and you don't get the feel of a concrete mall parking lot like some resorts. Staff - We experienced a polite, welcoming experience with staff. A friendly greeting or a shared joke was quickly returned with genuine warmth. Service was prompt and never, never, never did anyone hover for tips. (We always tip our servers and hospitality staff at all resorts.) It was appreciated but I can tell you the service was consistent regardless as we did not see much tipping at this resort. Theresa at the Swim upBar - thanks for the great bar service and the "not-sweet" drink you concocted for me - "The JT Special". Ozzie in the Entertainment Team was AMAZING with such a friendly positive attitude. His morning aqua-aerobics classes were phenomenal (to watch as well ha ha) A big, big highlight for me was the garden tour I asked for and they kindly provided. Snagg the Head Gardener was so willing (even though I found out later he was done his shift and should have been on his way home) Thanks so much for taking the time to show me about the lovely trees and flowers in your garden. And for the bouquet of exotic floral specimens and fruit! Stuart (TJ!) at the water sports - thank you so much for the EXCELLENT lessons on the Hobie Cat. I learned a lot with your guidance and will look forward to the next time I can "race with the wind" (ha ha) with the sun shining down. Veronica kept our room super super clean and Zanic who was training in the restaurant provided great service. Food and Drink - menus are set for the week for each of the restaurants but there are new selections daily, the food was hot and had real FLAVOUR. we've been to resorts with giant buffets and many a la cartes but no flavour to be found. Here, the dishes were tasty, the service wasfast and we all found something we liked at every meal. The egg station in Palms and Bambou were fast and the cook whipped up yummy omelet!Loved the island and the resort was just perfect for our needs!
The place is nice, let's get that out of the way, several pools, several bars, several restaurants, it's nice, no doubt. The service is great, not as professional as other Hotels I've been to but I can't rate it under 7/10 for the service. My main issue is that there is no WiFi in the rooms, I think they told us that we would have to pay separately for that, maybe I'm so accustomed to WiFi as a norm that this took me by surprise, I'm a tech guy so I'm not a big fan of going to the lobby to type in my password to any account on a network that anybody can access. So of course I had to dial in to my workplace before doing anything serious. But to have to go the lobby every time is pretty tedious in my opinion. They made two mistakes with me in my 4 day stay but they were quick to correct them so it won't be fair to mention the actual problems, I'm saying this as a plus to the hotel, being quick to rectify an error is a plus in my book. The food is good, I especially enjoy breakfast when I go to hotels so it was good that they didn't get anything wrong, eggs, I'm very serious about my eggs and I was happy that they provided that along with a reasonable amount of variety in other breakfast items. I went as an all inclusive guest so being able to access breakfast lunch and dinner was great, the foods were good, nothing to complain about here. The room was white, and had nice paintings , honestly I've been to a few hotels, not many, but I really loved the rooms' look and feel, really really nice.the overall experience was great, watersport activities and I love that the hotel has activities for most of the day for guests who may not want to leave the grounds.
The hotel when you arrive has such a wonderful ambience. The staff is courteous, the grounds are beautiful. The room was very relaxing, the pool was the best place to be, the watersports. The food was delicious in the palms.
