My husband and I have just returned from a 2week holiday at this hotel.... the people that work there were so lovely and friendly ..they made our holiday xx the hotel itself could do with renovating..it's a bit sad looking in places but it's a great location with a wonderful beach ...we dined quite a few times in the Oriental Restaurant..great food and again lovely staff x ..there was a good selection of food at lunchtime & in the evening in the Mariner restaurant..it is a buffet but plenty to choose from..
My family and I stayed at St Lucian by Rex for the 1st time, I must say we were a bit skeptical after reading some horrid reviews. Our experience was far beyond than expected, yes the hotel needs some TLC but overall it was great. The staff made you feel very welcome - as they say 1st impression counts (big up to shabba). The staff at the restaurants were very friendly, the reviews on some being rude - we didn't experience any of that. The night of my birthday was tremendous. I must say they made it into a little party with the band played that night. We enjoyed the food at the buffet rather than the oriental restaurant. The rooms was big and spaciaous and always clean , the only recommendation is that they put bathroom and bed mats. The view from the room was the icing on the cake. After all the hotel is situated on the best beach on the island. Would like to sum it up and a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff of St Lucian by Rex fro making my birthday the best ever. We have just returned from the St Lucian and were slightly apprehensive before travelling regarding the previous reviews, however this was completely unfounded in our experience and must have been submitted by compensation grabbing imbeciles / parasites that unfortunately expect far to much and generally spoil the ambience and suck at other peoples enjoyment. Yes the hotel does need some TLC which is apparent but in my opinion from what I saw and with previous holidays in the region its nowhere near as bad as previously described. We stayed in Room 266 08/11 - 15/11 and found we had a sea view room, great views that you can't tire of. New air con unit in the room and although the patio door was a little off set if you spent a couple of minutes you could shut it and lock it with no problem. Comfy large bed and was clean which is generally all that's required from a room. Not too fussed about the television to be honest. The staff were polite and accommodating, previous comments about the reception police are again unfounded. They request a $300 temporary charge on your card which is fully explained and seems reasonable given that its a smaller hotel. Shabs in the lobby is friendly and funny, Daniel and Alison in the bar were efficient and friendly at serving drinks. The waiting staff in the restaurants were all good in their roles/sections. Previous comments refer to rude / surly behaviour, I never saw this and can only imagine that if it did occur then it must have been driven by the behaviours of clientele as I have previously witnessed down right rudeness and people forgetting etiquette and their manners as they're on holiday. I would like to see how such people react if they were subjected to such abuse in their workplace! Anyway I digress, the food was great a mix of local and international dishes, i especially liked the lamb curry and roti and the roast beef and yorkshires was well executed. I can't imagine not being able to find a dinner or breakfast option as previously described. The restaurant mass caters and finds a good balance of options and heaven forbid they recycle food... it's what all restaurants do in some shape or form. The Oriental was a nice restaurant that provided a more attentive service and provided a nice selection of Thai / Chinese food which was good and filling. Restaurant had air con and Yes some of its not as good as your local Chinese takeaways... you're in the Caribbean!! The hotel overall had a nice flow to it in regards to its layout and design. The beach and view was stunning and yes the beach sellers do come and talk to you trying to sell you stuff but a firm no I'm not interested they leave you alone.My personal thoughts are that if you come to the hotel, be mindful it does need a bit of a re-furb and some TLC but don't let it distract you from coming, the beach, staff and food are great, have a great time. To those morons that expect too much, look at the price you paid, adjust your expectation or go and pay for the service and facilities you expect to have... oh hang on you can't, go back to Benidorm!
We spent 2 weeks at the St Lucian by Rex. A few rainy showers only enhanced our experience. The staff were superb - exceptionally friendly, efficient and helpful. Sincere appreciation to all and I can only recall these names (apologies to the cooks and cleaners and porters):In the Marriners/Oriental/Bar, Nisa, Tangier, Gillen, Analeess, Cathy, David, Flora, Anthea, Daniel & Kyle.At Reception, Chantal & Maria (thanks for the photo), Simile & Joyce (thanks for the print help)The room was great with a fab view over the bay. Spotlessly clean and comfortable with good A/C and a fridge.Food was great - excellent cooking and variety - the Oriental was a special experience highly recommended.A gentleman at reception (whose name I can't recall (apologies again) was very helpful re identifying a health clinic for my wife to have a routine blood coagulation check - very much appreciated.The quality of our stay was probably influenced by realtive 'quietness' for most of the duration. During 2 days of the hotel having more guests we did notice (obviously) staff were busier and dining room seating was in greater demand. Not at all a big deal but might apply to busiest times in the season.In short, we have no suggestions on improving the St Lucian and hope to return.
Yes, the resort is showing its age a little but that didn't stop us from having an excellent stay there. The staff are lovely and a handful of them in particular really made our holiday.There was a great variety of food throughout all three of the buffet-style meals in the main restaurant (breakfast was my favourite - the pancakes were fantastic) with little being repeated day-to-day and plenty of chance to try some delicious local dishes. There was also a decent selection of drinks available at the bar to those staying all-inclusive, with a long list of cocktails (almost all of which were very nice). The main restaurant and bar have a brilliant view over the beach and the waiting staff were attentive and helpful.I didn't particularly enjoy the Chinese-style restaurant (on-site, included in all-inclusive) because it was far too warm and the food was only mediocre compared to Chinese takeaways that I've had in the past. I would just not go to that restaurant during future stays.The rooms were large and comfortable - the bed was gigantic and I slept well on it. The TV wasn't great but I wasn't especially interested in that. Everything else in there worked well - the fridge, the air-con, the bathroom etc.The pool was fine - a little old and not very big, but I had some good swims in it and it was a nice place to relax. The beach was spectacular and very, very close by.There was quite a lot of entertainment on in the lobby during the evenings - we didn't attend very much of it, but what we saw seemed fun.The greater area has a lot of bars and restaurants, with a couple of big supermarkets and drug stores a short walk down the road. Busses to Castries leave from this shopping area and they are super-cheap. I recommend taking those rather than a taxi from the hotel when you want to go into town.
