My husband and I went to the St. Lucian in the off season. I will say, staff was running on about half staff as the whole resort was only about 1/3 full. We were pleasantly surprised when we found the front lobby empty and the reception desk empty, the maintenance man quickly came out and registered us in and gave us our room key and took us to our room. He was very pleasant and happy to help. Yes, this resort is older, and could use a bit of a refresher, but in a way, its a bit of character that the place has. The rooms were very clean, we had plenty of clean linen, Shout out to the water equipment Gentleman David! he was just fantastic! He can tell you anything you need to know about the island! and a fantastic Dive guy! The food, well, there wasn't a huge amount of selection as there wasn't a lot of guests. but boy, it was really fantastic! and im fussy! Entertainment, they had these Fire Dancers... well, I've seen many Fire Dancers before. These guys had me stopped dead in my tracks. I was stunned and speechless. They are fantastic! We had lounge chairs daily no matter what time of day we went out to the beautiful beach. Oh, did, I mention... keep your feet up during dinner or after dark if your eating on the deck area of the buffet! COCKROACHES!! No, none in our rooms, thank god! Just in that one food area! I've travelled all over the world and the Caribbean, this is only the second time this has happened, but you'r only getting what you'r paying for.Seriously, I would go back in a heartbeat! I actually just checked and they are all sold out...
This hotel is closed so why is it still being advertised! We had booked it 10Jan -24Jan.The taxi driver took us to the hotel and gates closed place deserted. We then discovered that we had been moved to the Royal next door.We actually still stayed in the St Lucien sea view room which was an upgrade but apart from that one block of rooms everywhere else was closed. We then enjoyed the facilities of the Royal. We were told the St Lucien was closed for refurbishment but there was no sign of that.We had a wonderful holiday.Could not fault the Royal. The food was amazing and the staff very friendly and couldn't do enough for you.Lovely beach but the cruisers spoils it for us.They are there virtually everyday and seemed to grow in number each day.Still don't know why the St Lucien is being advertised.
Nice room quite big on first floor sea view clean and comfy. Cleaned daily and sheets and towels changed regularly. Staff very helpful and polite. Always someone at reception to help. Plenty of good wholesome food nothing fancy but nice. Breakfast excellent
We have just spent four fantastic weeks at the rex over Christmas & New Year We had a wonderful time . the staff are outstanding always smiling cant do enough for you. Christmas day started with a champagne breakfast pre lunch drinks with entertainment by a steel band & a visit from Santa clause who gave every guest a present This was followed by a turkey dinner the food was excellent through out our whole stay the food was hot well cooked There was a good choice of dishes with a carvery most nights & salads always looked fresh & well prepared .New Years eve we all ate together at the sister hotel Pappion again the food was excellent as was the entertainment through out dinner. Later we returned to the rex were we party into the early hours with the band raw elements And fantastic firework display on the beach to welcome the new year . It was the best Christmas ever .We also ate at the Italian restaurant this had a very nice relaxing atmosphere & excellent food will definitely eat there again next trip Many thanks to Mr G & all his staff, Mr George ,Fredrick ,& Mr Guy Cabrera. for all you did to make our stay so enjoyable cant wait to return & see all our friends
We stayed for a week in this Rex hotel from 1st - 8th December. Hotel has a great location being right on the beach and the hotel gardens are well maintained. On the beach you will occasionally be approached by beach vendors but they do respond to a polite but firm 'No thank you' and are not persistent. Overall the food was good, especially fish dishes, with a good variety of choice. If you fancy a change it is worth visiting Spinnaker's a short stroll along the beach which has a comprehensive but reasonably priced menu. There is a very nice view from the restaurant which overlooks the beach/sea and the indoor Asian restaurant is worth a visit. The area around the pool was kept tidy with ample sun loungers though sun shades were limited and the Jacuzzi would benefit m and be used more if it was heated. It is shaded by a large tree so does not get warmed by the sun. Our ground floor room was adequately furnished with a small terrace and was in a good location close to the beach. Staff were all friendly and efficient. If you fancy a good reasonably priced massage Kev can be found a short walk along the beach. Go a little further you'll get to Marie's bar - well worth a visit to taste her rum. Till I tasted that I didn't think I liked rum!!I would agree with some other contributors that the hotel is a bit 'tired' but neither our friends or ourselves saw any evidence of any serious neglect. We have stayed at several hotels on various Caribbean islands e,g Antigua, Tobago, Grenada, Barbuda etc. Ultimately, as with anywhere else, you get what you pay for. If you want 5 star surroundings you need to pay significantly more than the weekly cost of this hotel.
