Just.... fabulous!

We (sadly) only stayed here one night as we were en route to the Grenadines, but honestly could have spent the whole trip here; what a place! We took the shuttle organized by the resort from the airport ($75USD) and the driver was there at the airport waiting for us with a sign with our names. We simply loved this resort. The room had its own plunge pool and the bathroom area was about the same size as the rest of the room! And the beach- just WOW!!, between the Pitons. The snorkelling was really good, lots to see, with other resorts coming over in the day to snorkel there on various charters. The lounge chairs on the beach are lovely and the staff is there to help with towels and drink orders. Just a lovely spot and we will definitely return for longer next time! We had a very enjoyable dinner at the restaurant down by the beach. I think if I had to come up with one item that was a bit of a niggle here, I'd say that the very extensive wine list for dinners is a very nice feature, but there is nothing on there less than $75USD a bottle. Not that we mind, but if you like some wine with dinner or even lunch some days, that would end up being a fairly large proportion of your dining costs. I think it is wonderful to have such an extensive wine list, but at times, it is nice to be able to get a bottle of wine that would not cost more than a meal. I did notice that some of the wines on the menu that we recognize as we drink them at home, were about 4 times the cost of what we'd pay at home. To me, that seems like a very large markup. Anyway, it is what it is, and that was something very small that we noticed compared to this wonderful resort.Would definitely recommend to friends. Just a lovely experience.

paradise

It is even more amazing here than it looks on line. A perfect sugar mill bungalow with private garden plunge pool and a roof terrace and a butler , thank you Peter so much. So many beautiful places to sit , by the beach with a cocktail, go on the rain forest walk, take the tour of the estate and learn about the history. Tree top spa with shell treatments. Tropical humming birds by the door. Excellent breakfast with out of the world smoothies , banana bread and quinoa porridge. Lunch time pizza by the sea! Thank you to all the staff who gave David the best birthday ever and 2 birthday cakes !Thank you also to the Great room restaurant for the special vegetarian foods. This is a place of dreams. Warning the food and drinks are very expensive . I would have also liked more wardrobe space in the room and a vanity area for make up. The bed was so big and high it was princess and the pea. We will remember this trip forever.

Awesome but pricey

Sugar beach provides a luxurious tropical experience. Our family of four stayed here in January after the holiday rush, so the hotel was not crowded. The rooms were fantastic and the staff delightful. Drinks and snacks were provided in the rooms as well as a small private pool and lounging area. The hotel had many great activities, but for us the best was snorkeling right off of the beach. The corals and tropical fish were awesome. The food was quite good, but also very expensive. We would suggest getting a package that includes breakfast, but not the other meals. Cocktails can run about $15. Note that if you opt to take a taxi outside the hotel, these too can be expensive. A short ride to the Chocolate restaurant at the nearby Boucan hotel was $58.

Relaxing, Carefree St Lucia Vacation

My husband and I spent seven nights at Sugar Beach and had a wonderful time. We had booked a Superior Sugar Mill room and were pleasantly surprised when our taxi driver proceeded to drive us directly to block 700 where we were taken to a Villa instead. We had a wonderful view of the ocean and both pitons, (photos included in my review). Our butlers were Sherman, Shawn and Nysan, who were usually on a rotation of two. We stayed here 20 years ago when it was simply Jalousie Plantation and included a black natural sand beach. I was concerned that with joining the Viceroy group and with all the expansion, it would have become impersonal and stuffy, but I was pleasantly surprised. The staff could not be warmer and more engaging. They went out of their way to address you by name, using our first names since that was our preference. Service was top-notch in the restaurants as well. Yes, the food prices are somewhat expensive, but this is an island and they receive deliveries from France for many of the products being consumed ( all of the dairy, berries etc ). Quality is top notch and the meals we had were wonderful. We did not do any meal plan, but preferred to just pay as we went along. We did eat out several times and also did our own individual garden tours two days with an outside tour operator. When we went to dinner we used one of the hotels taxi drivers, Theo, who was great and I would call him when we were ready to come back to Sugar Beach. I used the spa several times and the technicians were skilled. The deep tissue massage was truly deep tissue. I was sore the next day, which is what I expect. Also had a sugar scrub and a hot stone massage. The setting is wonderful with the bamboo thatched roof huts. Leah and Michelle were the technicians I had. Overall, Sugar Beach is hard to beat for an overall, high-quality, vacation in St Lucia. The location, situated between the pitons is ideal, and the direct beach access is unsurpassed. The other hotels, Ladera, Hotel Chocolat etc. all shuttle their guests to this beach since they are landlocked. I can't think of anything else to add to this review except don't hesitate to book here if you are looking for a relaxing, wonderful, carefree experience on the beautiful lush island of St. Lucia.
