Vacation at Sugar Beach Resort

Disappointing is my best response. Very Overpriced. Not 5 star by any means.Location is beautiful, beach is very nice white sand and water is clear and clean. Nice beach chairs though first come first serve and other resorts share the beach. It was not crowded during our stay. Not provided room with 2nd bath that we requested at booking or in area where we booked. They just ignored our complaint even though our travel agent also called. They claim there is Butler service but we could not even say who was our butler. We made all our own dinner reservations with conceirge. Also inconvenient to take shuttle up/down mountain to get to resort or beach. Water in villa pool was so cold could not use once. Many of villas have no view. Breakfast only very good meal, others overpriced. Sushi restaurant was worse meal I ever had in my life!!Resort needs better management. Workers are friendly and accommodating but service can be very slow at times. You are trapped at resort because 15 minute drive to get back to main road. Do not suggest full meal plan at Sugar Beach (just breakfast plan) and enjoy other restaurants in area (though $50 taxi RT for each dinner). resort restaurants are overpriced (ie cup of coffee $8 plus VAT and service charge) and not memorable.

Hiccups in paradise

We are currently staying in a Luxury Beachfront Bungalow having arrived on the 26th of December and will be leaving on the 8th of January . The three butlers Mosiah, Maneske and Mchaille, are an absolute pleasure and are taking great care of us!We came across a few hiccups whilst staying here;our main concern was our dining experience at the Great Room restaurant. This was advertised as one of the most esteemed dining destinations but, nevertheless,we were faced with two bad encounters. We were advised to dine at the restaurant for our New Year's Eve dinner and made a reservation so it came to our surprise that we were forced to wait in one of the bars for over an hour.We were repeatedly going back and forth to and from the restaurant to remind them of our presence and the fact that it was already almost 11 pm(booking was for 9.30 pm). As a result of the time constraints we manage to have only 2 out of 7 courses special dinner, they stopped serving as the time approached midnight. We were still expected to pay the vast balance, which came to just shy of $650 (one adult & two teenagers on a fully prepaid breakfast, lunch, dinner package ). We complained to at least 3 members of staff the next day and are still waiting for a resolution from the resort's management officials . After requesting the final bill of a 2 week stay we also found out that we had been mischarged for some amenities, snacks & beverages.Nonetheless our butlers dealt with the situation immaculately! All of this aside, we found the experience completely unique and enthralling. The majority of the staff were incredibly amiable and courteous. Most of the produce served is locally sourced and organic, the taste of the fruits and vegetables is definitely something special. We would also recommend the Cane Bar, the sushi restaurant, for a truly exquisite taste of Asian cuisine. The art displayed throughout the resort is incredibly sophisticated and unique, separating this resort from other hotels. It was recommended to us to try snorkelling by a fellow guest and adored it to such an extent that we would go multiple times a day and speaking as beginners, it's safe to say that it’s not difficult at all . The diversity of the marine wildlife we saw was astounding -there are so many unique varieties of fish that we were fascinated by – making snorkelling our favourite pastime.Night snorkelling is also a must, although more intimidating, you are accompanied by a guide who keeps you safe as well as answers all your buzzing inquiries about the surroundings. There is a lot to see during both the night and day making this trip even more memorable. It would have been helpful if the diving centre could provide a chart so beginners like us would be able to recognise some of the fish we were seeing for potentially the first time. There were also other water sports and beach activities on offer. We tried out water skiing, paddling and are hoping to try out some more soon! The hotel also offers various tours of the island but the descriptions should be updated – we went on three tours ,enjoyed them immensely ,but they did not fit the description that the hotel provided. The gym trainers are extremely professional and constantly motivate you and offer constructive criticism however we felt that there were not enough of the most sought after machines such as the treadmills and some of the apparatus was slightly out-dated. The gym in a sequestered region of the resort but it was very easy for us to arrange for shuttles there and back with our butler. The spa is incorporated within the natural environment surrounding it very well to provide a truly unique and immersive experience along with experienced staff, though pricey for what it is.The resort's unique location goes without saying; it is positioned perfectly amidst the pitons. The resort is now even more peaceful as a second beach opened very recently, a short walk away from our room, along with a bar on the pier.We are thoroughly enjoying staying in a Luxury Beachfront Bungalow seeing as everything is at our fingertips and we can pop out for a swim whenever we wish, with the pool situated very near to the beach .We are particularly fond of our hammock too – perfect for laying in the shade during the peak heat of the day.Our butlers and this people made our stay unforgettable,Mishka,Lisa,Anetta,Natoria,Kaysher,Richiana,Julia,Hilroy,Thank you!! They have made us want to come back for sure !

Elegant resort in an amazing setting

We did not stay here but took a shuttle from our hotel down to the beach twice in our trip. The location between the Pitons is totally unique in my opinion. If you are not a resident don't worry you can put your towel down and enjoy without the cost of a lounger. To the right of the jetty is a great snorkeling spot where the fish surround you only a few feet off the beach, just too cute!!The loungers to the right of the jetty are free so it gets crowded, arrive early!

If you just want beach, this is sugar

direct flight from Gatwick is great, arrived in the rain at hotel and was underwhelmed. Villas were fine, but a little generic white and cracked concrete roadways link everything up and down the steep hilly location. after a good nights sleep the sun came out and all the rainforest greenery seemed a whole lot less gloomy but refreshing and protecting. the shuttle service to main reception (which by itself is unimpressive- but leads to the rest of the large building which terraces down to bars, balconies and a couple of nice restaurants) ran flawlessly. further down the hill is the impressive eponymous, sugar sand beach and a cool bayside restaurant and beach bar. towel/drinks service there is very good. drawbacks are prices ( you are captive on the resort) are high and in US$ ( damn Brexit) . The mountainous terrain of the island means it takes ages to get anywhere else and the nearest town, soufrieres , is depressing. So, SB is great for a $$$$ chillout break on a beach with a magnificent setting between the two Pitons, but not good for an adventurous sightseeing holiday.

Expensive & Slow service

Was a day visitor at The Sugar Beach Viceroy Resort here last week. The parking for visitors is up near the tennis courts where you pick up a shuttle down to the beach area. The beach area is nice with a pretty setting. You need to plan on buying a drink or some food in order to use the resort. That was fine but the service at their beach bar was incredibly slow. We sat and sat while the wait staff walked around us. The place wasn't that busy (2:30pm) but everyone seem uninterested in working. Eventually, we ordered two Sugar Beach rum punches and one shared desert of hot chocolate mousse topped with coconut sorbet. Everything tasted great but.... for the price, the serving sizes should have been much more generous. My husband had to chase down our check at the end. It was $41. When my husband looked at the check & credit card in the folder, it wasn't our check and contained someone else's credit card. He explained that there was a mix up. The gal actually asked if we were sure. Really? Are we sure, NOT I'm sorry. Between the poor service and the prices, I don't recommend visiting here.
