Went here as part of boat trip(captain delboy exodus )and this was really good restaurant food and staff are amazing great location plus great spot for snorkelling beautiful clear waters thank you delboy
First off, the resort is incredibly beautiful. My husband surprised me with this trip for our honeymoon. The views are absolutely breath taking and I'm not sure you can find a better spot. We came here on our honeymoon in October of 2016. Mostly everything was wonderful, but the things that weren't so great were really big deals to us. We did just about everything there was to do so I'll do an outline...Rooms: we stayed in a grand luxury villa that was absolutely incredible. 2 bathrooms, a sitting room, a beautiful bedroom, a patio, and an infinity pool. Butler included. There's not a thing I would change, we loved this villa and the privacy of it. Food: luckily, we did all inclusive! I'm warning you, do all inclusive! Most of the negative reviews are about food prices, but this is a 5 star resort. If you want cheap food, go to sandals. Thank goodness we did the meal plan. There are 2 lunch options and 4 dinner options. Lunch is very good, but got old after a while. We ran out of things that we wanted to eat. For dinner, the Great Room is the most upscale of the dining, but we weren't fans. Though beautiful, the food was definitely our least favorite. Maybe it just wasn't our taste. The beachside cafe was very good, but so similar to lunch that we didn't want to go there. Our absolute favorite was the Cane Bar Sushi restaurant. Incredible! We love sushi and this was the best we have ever had by far! Everything we go was delicious. We ate there 4 out of the 7 nights Service: every single person there was incredibly kind and willing to do what was needed to accommodate the guests. From the tuk tuk drivers to our wait staff, they all knew our names and specific things about us. They were wonderful! Service on the beach was very slow. Beach: you won't find anything more beautiful! The first 2 days were amazing because there were only a few other couples. Very comfortable seating, perfect views, wait staff, beautiful and warm water. My biggest concern is what caused the resort a lot of negative comments. Many negative comments have been made about the public beach and honestly there was nothing more infuriating than that issue. It almost causes me to give this resort 3 stars. We spent almost $15,000 to stay away from sandals and carnival crowds. We aren't into that and wanted to be as far away from that as possible. Unfortunately, they were boated in by the dozens to snorkel and visit the public beach. This was the low season and if it was the high season, I can't imagine how enraged I would have become. Honestly, I probably would have left. Several times we came to the beach only to see it crowded with loud drunk people and children. There were 2 altercations between security and these visitors and caused those days to not be enjoyable. Again, we paid the price to stay away from that. This issue alone almost makes the money not worth it. Activities: we did lots! The spa is everything!! I have been to lots of spas and this is the absolute best! Beautiful, private, and excellent service! We did the romantic escape package and it was so amazing, we almost did it again (it will set you back almost $800 😵). We did a private tour with our awesome driver, Super Dave, and he took us to the mud baths/waterfall one day and to tet Paul/waterfall the next day. Both absolutely incredible! I recently had knee surgery so we couldn't hike the piton, but tet Paul was a perfect substitute! We did several water activities at the resort (snorkeling, wake boarding, tubing) and loved them all! We booked a zip line tour of a cocoa plantation through solar tours and we're obsessed! Such a neat place with beautiful views! We visited castries by a private boat charter and it was perfect! We also took a sunset cruise on a private catamaran with mygo and it was our favorite part of the trip! They took us snorkeling during the day and when the sun began to set we were served an incredible lobster dinner! All of these activities were awesome and made for such great days. Scenery: again, you won't find a more beautiful resort. Everything was planned out to perfection. The tuk tuks, the villas, the restaurants, absolutely everything is perfect. There is also a beautiful nature trail on the propertyPrivacy: this is the biggest reason this resort gets 4 stars and honestly should probably get 3, but aside from the privacy it is so incredible. Children are a huge no no to me. Just like a 5 star restaurant, children should not be at a 5 star resort. If they are, there should be separate areas for them. Multiple loud children accosted us on the beach and at dinner and this is something we were absolutely not okay with. The other biggest issue is that of the dozens of people crashing our honeymoon via booze cruise (already discussed). Again, something we were absolutely not okay with. We were under the impression that this resort was incredibly exclusive, private, and quiet and that's the price tag we paid...unfortunately, that was not what we got and we felt we paid far too much for what we actually received. Would we go again? I really want to say yes and my husband is closer to the yes that me, but I'm going to have to go with no. It is far too expensive to be around so many children and booze cruisers. I can't even begin to imagine how bad that would be during high season. If you are looking for lots of privacy and quite, I would look elsewhere.
Resort - immaculate grounds. Staff ratio to guests was unbelievable. Southern hospitality at its finest. Accommodations were fabulous. We enjoyed having our pool to relax at when it got too hot or even cloudy.Food - amazing. We enjoyed the Great Room cuisine a touch more than Bayside, but both were amazing. We enjoyed the AI plan and found it to be worth it; food is very pricey. I found plenty of options at all dining meals within the AI plan. Water is always available and your butler will always get you more if needed. House wines were great; I'd suggest one more red wine option to the AI plan. I found this food to be the best in the Caribbean and just as superior as those fine dining options we would have in any big city. Staff - amazing. The staff really does not want you to lift a finger. Everyone was very polite, generous and attentive. The beach service may be slower than what some are used to but that is because you never have to leave your chair (vs. other resorts where you must walk up to a bar). Just relax and be patient; they always come around and do an amazing job with a smile. Tip - order a house bottle of champagne to enjoy on the beach for sunsets. We also enjoyed taking a bottle of AI red wine up to bed to enjoy a glass before bed.Shuttles were always prompt. Most of that is attributable to Gregg and Gary our butlers. Big thanks.Bugs aren't that bad honestly. Just put on bug spray before dinner. None needed at the beach or pool unless you enjoy your plunge pool where the plants/trees are located (then you might need some).Do participate in the piton hike - well worth the views and experience. We have stayed at Parrot Cay and in Antigua and found Sugar Beach to be an A+ all around. We would definitely return.
We decided on a last minute trip to Sugar Beach in June, it was always on my bucket list of places to go! The Good:It is an absolutely beautiful resort and every detail of the design and amenities are 5 star! Upon arrival we were greeted by our butler with drinks and snacks. We were also given phones to call the butler. We stayed in Sugar Villa #8. Sugar Villa's are the cheapest rooms, but are still very nice and spacious. They have a very small plunge pool on the first floor, a big balcony, with great views of the pitons. I loved the all white rooms, they were very clean and tranquil. The rooms are stocked with free water, free soft drinks, and free Piton Beer. They also bring fruit and night time treats everyday which was also a nice unexpected touch. The Sugar Villas are a short walk to the main dining areas and beach. The beach chairs and service was amazing! I loved the large lounge chairs, and the huge thatched roof palapas. It rained for 2 days of our stay, but we were completely dry and happy just sitting under the palapa in the rain. The service was great, with attendants offering sunscreen, sunglasses cleaning and cold towels. The service is absolutely impeccable everywhere at Sugar Beach. We ate at the Beach restaurant most nights, except one when we ate at their Japanese restaurant which was average. Even though it wasnt the best Japanese food I have had, it was nice to have a different choice of restaurant. The beach restaurant was amazing! I really enjoyed the food each night and once again the service was amazing. We never left the resort which was perfectly fine with us and had a great time just relaxing at the beach all day. The Bad:The only reason why I am giving this hotel 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the mysterious room on the first floor of the sugar villa 8. The way our villa was laid out is that you enter from the first floor and go up the stairs to the main living area. On the first floor by the stairs there was a locked room. I didnt think anything of it until we were woken up around 7 or 8 am by people talking and loud noises. From upstairs where the bed is it was really loud and sounded like someone was inside of your villa. I could hear either voices, or possibly a tv and what sounded like laundry or construction. This happened for 2 mornings before I decided to call and complain. I couldnt really figure out what was in there, they only thing I could think of is that it was the butlers quarters, or maybe a laundry/equipment room. I am not sure if all of the sugar villas have this, or if it was just #8. Regardless of what it was, i was creeped out that I could hear people (and they could probably hear me), and felt like they were with us in our villa. Knowing this I felt a little uncomfortable the rest of our stay. When I called to complain they stopped the noise, and gave us a bottle of champagne, but I wish they would have moved us to a different room. I just still got the feeling that someone was still in this locked room on the ground floor of our villa. The only other thing was that the beach sand seemed to maybe be imported. It was nice, but you could only go out in the water maybe 10 feet before the sand stopped and the sea grass floor started. Also the snorkeling was just average. I think my expectations were too high though. I am an avid snorkeler, so after one swim out from the beach I was a little bored. I think for maybe a beginner might find it more interesting. Overall I would highly recommend the resort for people that just want to relax, and be pampered in beautiful surroundings. I would also recommend you get a villa other than Sugar Villa #8.
