Out of this world

We've travelled to many different destinations but nothing comes close to Sugar Beach. Amazing property, villas, service, beach. This is the most romantic place ever! Perfect for special occasions. Every little detail is through through--butlers, cell phones, wifi, shuttle, wine cellar. Can't wait to go back.

Honeymoon Perfection

My husband and I spent our honeymoon at this incredible resort and are so happy we chose Sugar Beach. The island is absolutely beautiful filled with lush rain forests and gorgeous beaches. The resort had a driver waiting for us at pickup which was a great choice we would recommend. Once we arrived there was a slight hiccup with which room type we were supposed to stay in, but the reservations team honored the emails we had discussing the room type and got us into our villa within a few hours. The room was incredible! I would highly suggest the villas or cottages. We were in 810 and it had a nice view of the piton and was very private. The staff was fantastic and treated us like family. The beach was beautiful and we enjoyed the different ocean activities (snorkeling, kayaking, etc). The beach bar was always stocked and lunch and dinner right near the sand was amazing. We did many tours including exploring Soufriere, but the sunset cruise was a blast! We also loved the beach BBQ and live reggae on Friday night. Thank you again for an absolutely perfect honeymoon, we are already planning on how we can get back there in the next few years! On side note: I would highly suggest getting a meal plan, otherwise you will be counting dollars every time you order something! It was expensive to add, but we were happy we did as we didn't have to worry every time we ordered something and the food was top notch.

Perfect Honeymoon!

We have just returned for a wonderful 10 nights at Sugar Beach - We spent months and months trying to find the 'perfect honeymoon' spot and we couldn't have wished for anything better. The whole resort is breathtaking, from the minute you arrive you feel like you are in complete luxury. Everybody knows your name, even the tuk tuk drivers will greet you by your name when they pick you up! If you are reading these reviews wondering whether to book - just do it! you will NOT regret it. Special thank you to the wonderful management team (Restaurant and Mark), our wonderful butlers and Terry the driver! You made our stay so extra special and we cannot thank you enough. My tips would be to do the AI food plan, its quite pricey but the food is WONDERFUL, plenty to pick from and not your standard 'all inclusive' food. We swore this would be a 'one-off' holiday but we are already planning to get back to this little piece of paradise ASAP. Thank you Sugar Beach!Mr & Mrs Harley (villa 705)

Must love cats & bring lots of money if you plan to eat on the property

My mother and I spent a long weekend (four days) of excursions and spa treatments. It was superb! The property is exquisite, very clean, and well maintained. They spray for mosquitoes regularly, so there were no issues in that area. The villa was beautiful and also well maintained (looked new). Upon arrival the butler (Charles) greeted us and was an excellent resort ambassador. Charles really set the bar as far as being helpful, friendly courteous and genuine. We found almost all staff to be exceptionally friendly and efficient--but not to the level of Charles. We felt safe and secure at all times on the property and did not have to wait longer than a few minutes for rides around the property. The main problem with SB was the price of food. It was extraordinarily over priced. The day we arrived (Friday) they only have two restaurants open (this is normal for Friday for them in the off season), a barbecue buffet and a sushi bar. The BBQ was $90 per person USD! That was too high for a BBQ buffet and we don't eat sushi. SB was accommodating though, and allowed us to order from the room service menu at the sushi bar (without the $18 service charge). With that, the prices were pretty high and the portions were very small. We ended up eating at other resorts the next two nights where the food was, in some cases, better (in terms of variety, taste). While the price of the food was comparable, the portions were larger and the mix drinks were half the price of those at SB ($9 vs. $18). The breakfast at SB was absolutely fabulous (included as an amenity through our travel agent).SB has exceptional customer service and called to check on our stay the second day. We told them about the limited choices on Friday. They then sent a manager over to meet with us to get more information about how we felt about the food situation and other services. I was impressed with the manager's (Peter) attentiveness and willingness to be accommodating. It was obvious that it was important to him and SB that we were happy. He asked about our experiences with staff and we told him that Charles certainly set the bar high, but we found every staff member to be exceptional from the van drivers, wait staff, gardeners, spa staff, etc., to the butlers. There were only two exceptions, but we told him that it was only because all of the other staff were so incredibly pleasant, anyone who might be regular, stood out. Again, these individuals were not rude or anything, they just were not as friendly and gracious as all other staff on the property and did not seem to meet SB standards. Not long after our visit with Peter, we received a call from the restaurants VP(?) who wanted to also apologize for our experiences on Friday. This is a top-notch resort and it is obvious they care about their guests and want to ensure they have a good experience. One big negative for us is the property is over-run by cats. This is disturbing for non-cat lovers like us. Since most of the restaurants are outdoor eating arrangements (with spectacular views) it was extremely off-putting to have cats running around and sitting in front of you starring you down for food. At one time, I had to ask the wait staff to try to get them away from me as I was getting a bit scared -- they were gathering around me like the movie The birds. They are all over the property, even at the villas. We had several cats jump on the table at the villa and lounge. Needless to say, we wouldn't want to eat at that table. I will say though, we may be a bit different from most people. We do not believe animals should be on tables or around begging for food. Other guests didn't seem to be bothered. Just something to know. The travel agent worked with the concierge to organize the excursions we were interest in trying. Some of the standard excursions weren't exactly what we wanted, so SB designed one just for us. All the activities ( zip-lining, horseback riding, shopping, botanical gardens, sulfur springs) were all really great. We also spent plenty of time at the spa. I thought the services were what you would expect from a 5-star resort. St. Lucia is a wonderful place to visit! We felt safe at all times and the people were very friendly. You must be rather ambulatory as this is a very hilly environment. You cannot not go far without walking up a hill or climbing stairs (and lots of them). I did not see any accessible entryways. Mom was able to get around, but with a bit of effort and there were a lot of pauses for resting. This was fine as the island saying is "take your time."

Beautiful location

My husband and I spent a few days at Sugar Beach for a short vacation. First of all the hotel and grounds are beautiful, I don’t know where you would find a lovelier setting. The staff are attentive, from the restaurant to the gardeners. The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because the prices in the restaurants are unreasonable. Our first night we got in late and ordered a pizza to be delivered to our room, $24 pizza cost $18 to be delivered. The pizza was just ok, the crust tasted like it came premade, like cardboard. I have to say every other meal was much better. The first breakfast my husband got a juice, we weren’t charged so assumed it was complimentary, so the the next morning I had juice too, we were charged $12 per glass of juice. Wine with dinner was, I think, $25 a glass, not positive on that price. The last night we ate in again, expecting the $18 delivery charge, this time we were only charged $5? These price are US dollars, not the local EC. I know it’s a high end resort, it just seems unreasonable. I would definitely go back because of the scenery and attentive care from the staff, but I’d be careful what I eat and drink.
