This was our first visit to St. Lucia, We wanted our ten year anniversary to be somewhere perfect and we were not disappointed. Very friendly staff, great tasting food, nice family friendly atmosphere. Our vow renewal was perfect Melanie went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect and it was. What I loved the most besides the setup is that we were not rushed. She let us take our time taking pictures etc. Everything came out just as planned. I hate we had to leave this was by far the best vacation ever. We did a few excursions through the resort, which was also great. We will be back at the winjammer landing definitely!! I left a few pic out of the 400 we took enjoy!!
We spent three nights (July 5-8) at the Windjammer Landing Resort for our daughter’s wedding. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, with strong positive aspects as well as a few negatives. I’ll summarize them by category in this review.General – the resort is large, and is built up the side of a small mountain (or large hill, depending on your perspective). The roads and paths can be quite steep, and many of the villas are a good distance up the hill. They have a shuttle that is available on demand, either by catching it at the main lobby to go up the hill, or by calling the front desk and asking for one to come pick you up and bring you down. The hub of the resort is centered on the main lobby, extending toward the beach and containing the bi-level main pool, restaurants, bars and shops. The facilities were nicely laid out and easy to navigate. Also, please note you are at a southern Caribbean resort – there will be cats, birds at times in the open-air restaurants looking for a bite to eat and lots of different bugs, some of which may appear in your room. Just roll with it, knowing every resort has them.Room – we stayed in a Premium Oceanview Room, #103-A. This room was not too far up the hill, and just across the access road from Papa Don’s restaurant and a small pool that never seemed to be crowded. The room had a queen bed, bathroom with walk-in shower, single basin vanity and separate room with the toilet. The bathroom contained a makeup mirror and hair dryer, and had a louvered window with screens that is permanently open. The electrical outlet in the bathroom wasn’t working when we arrived, but once we reported it to the front desk it was repaired within a few hours. The room had a wall mounted air conditioning unit above the door to the sun terrace and worked very well. There is also a ceiling fan, a sitting area with two chairs/ottomans and table, in-room coffee and a nicely-sized walk-in closet. There was plenty of drawer space available in the dresser and night stands as well, and the TV is wall-mounted above the dresser. As previously mentioned, a separate doorway leads to a staircase to the rooftop sun terrace. This contains both open and covered areas, two chaise lounges and table. We would have our morning in-room coffee up there, but didn’t use it otherwise as it was just too hot and humid up there. Positives: great ocean view, good air conditioning, spacious and comfortable. Negatives: room was a bit dated-looking, the always-opened bathroom window created a very warm and humid bathroom, and there was only one trash can and mirror in the entire room (both in the bathroom). There is also an interior staircase to the lower unit, with a door at the entrance to the lower unit (presumably to create a “connected rooms” set up for families). Although this door is locked from the stairwell side, it is thin and we could clearly hear noise from the lower unit, including some loud music one night until 3am. This was also true for the main entrance door, which when combined with the open bathroom window, allowed the sound of rain and rainwater runoff to be clearly heard in the room. This wasn’t great since it rained every morning around 5 AM. Finally, there were no blackout curtains on the windows, so plenty of morning light found its way into the room. Consequently, I didn’t sleep as well as I had hoped. However, several of the wedding guests rented Villas and they all said they were amazing.Food/Drink – we had the all-inclusive package which includes meals at all five restaurants at the resort. We experienced all but Papa Don’s. Dragonfly is a buffet restaurant for breakfast and dinner. We did breakfast here each morning, and this is where the wedding reception was held Friday night, with a buffet dinner. Food in every instance was very good (try St. Lucia’s national dish - salt fish and green fig). One nice thing was the buffet being in a separate room with double in/out swinging doors which prevented any birds from getting near the food items. Jammer’s (and Jammer’s Bar) is located between the main pool and the beach, and serves lunch and dinner. We had lunch there once and it was good. I had very tasty jerk chicken wings, although they were on the small side. The Upper Deck is adjacent to Jammer’s and is open for dinner. We had dinner there the first night, where the food was good (the Mahi was a bit overcooked). The next night was the rehearsal dinner and it was excellent – had a perfectly cooked filet mignon. There are a couple of house wines by the glass included with the all-inclusive. Our preference was for the Chilean choices versus the French. We had lunch at Embers once, which is located on the beach and includes a full bar. Enjoyed the jerk pork BBQ sandwich and fish tacos, and the jerk chicken nachos are a must. All the restaurants we visited had great beach and ocean views. The bars poured several top-shelf brands, so be sure to ask for them by name or you’ll get their rail selections. They didn’t have by preferred gin, Bombay Sapphire, so Tanqueray was the substitute for my martinis. They also had Glenfiddich single malt scotch, so that was a nice option. Beer choices were the local Piton beer, and a couple of choices from St. Lucia’s Antillia Brewing Company, including an IPA, on draft. Not sure if any other brands were available in bottles. Watch that rum punch! St. Lucian rum indeed packs a punch (pun intentional). Just note that you will still have to sign a check each time you have anything to eat or drink, even with the all-inclusive package. It just won’t show up on your bill at the end unless you get a bottle of wine or something else not covered by the package. Tips are not included in the package, although a 10% service charge is added to the bill you sign. However, I would throw a buck or two in at times if service was especially good.Service – great. We thought the staff was friendly, welcoming and accommodating. Service in the bars and restaurants was very good. The staff really shines at this resort. We only had a single instance where the shuttle we asked for didn’t arrive. My wife ended up having to make a long walk to the bride’s villa in the afternoon heat on the day of the wedding. But otherwise, the service was excellent.Pool – the only pool that was used was the main bi-level pool by Jammer's. My wife and some other ladies would do water aerobics each morning there. I never used it, as I spent my time on the beach and in the ocean. It’s rather small, but seemed to be well-maintained. There are tables with umbrellas and sun loungers available.Beach/Ocean – the beach is large and is beautiful. Soft white sand and turquoise & blue water that is calm with little to no surf. Warm water. We spent every day on the beach, where it was easy to find sun loungers in the shade of palm trees. There are no umbrellas on the beach, but there are a few thatched palapas down by Embers. Go grab one early though as they go fast. There is a floating trampoline, platform and lounging rings available. Sand toys and floats available as well.Watersports – the watersports shack is located at the far end of the resort (to the left as you face the ocean at Jammer's), and non-motorized sports are included in the all-inclusive package. Although we did not partake, several others in the wedding contingent did, saying there was much to see snorkeling right off the beach.Wedding – our daughter handled all the arrangements with the wedding coordinators at the resort, so all I can say was it was a beautiful ceremony with wonderful flowers and decorations, and a great banquet set up for the reception. Very well done.Weather – obviously, July is the off-season in St. Lucia for a reason. It is very hot and humid, with heat indexes in the mid to high 90s and frequent showers (but these were typically quite brief and light). However, this was when the groom’s St. Lucian relatives who live in the U.S. make their annual trip back to the island for their family reunion, so they wanted to tie-in with this so everyone didn’t have to make a second trip. But you will get a great tan – just be sure to bring plenty of high SPF sunscreen. We used 50 the whole time and still got some good color without burning.Summary – we really enjoyed our three-night stay at the Windjammer Landing. Great staff, food, drinks and beach. The shortcomings of the room are the only reason I didn’t give it a 5 rating. I’m sure I would have if we had rented a Villa.
One employee stands above the rest, Gloria Alexandar. She is professional, treats people like her friends and is extremely helpful. She is an A+ employee. Ask for her in their Dragon Fly restaurant. She should be a part of their management team.
We had an excellent time at the resort, wasn't over crowded and restaurant we excellent all so the staff was nice, would like to thank our houskeeper Verna for taking good care of my family for the week, they are villas three stores two rooms had king size bed and there was one that two twin beds all had there own bathrooms. Also we had a driver named Kerri who also took very good care of us when going into town to do shopping
My wife and I just completed our trip to Castries St. Lucia at the Windjammer and we couldn't wait to share this incredible find with our family and friends. We opted to begin our dream vacation with a helicopter ride over the Piton mountains ($165 per person) and rainforest from the airport. It is only a 15 minute ride but it is absolutely breathtaking viewing the various banana plantations and villages from above. Stayed in a two bedroom villa with plunge pool with amazing views of the bay. Food was excellent: I recommend Papa Don's Chicken Marsala and The Upper Deck's Filet mignon. Jammers on the beach has great beach fare and the Caesar salad does not disappoint. The service is world class and many thanks to Gloria Alexander, Jeannine, Cheryl, Samantha, Nigel from the shuttle service, Ian at the front desk, and all the ladies at the Spa. Last item: if you are looking for a great excursion see Skittles walking on the beach for Exodus tours. He will offer you a boat tour with snorkeling, a ride into an active volcano, mud bath and authentic French creole cuisine for one super reasonable price! We can't wait to return next year!
