- What's Included
We went ahead and booked our next visit for March 2017 back this past June. As in the past, we have sent our room request via email to Claudie, the general manager, and we always receive a prompt confirmation notice back from her. Our last visit was in March 2015, for 10 days and it was just a joy! We were surprised to see some damage to the grounds and to a few of the palm trees and other large shrubbery items. This was caused by a hurricane that passed close to the island in late 2014, which did take away some of the secluded feel around certain areas of the grounds, but we could clearly see that new landscape items had been planted before we arrived and the resort was doing what they could possibly do to replace what the storm had destroyed. We are looking forward to seeing what the grounds look like when we return next March. We enjoy slipping away to French St. Martin and the Orient Bay area so much because there are so few Americans around. Having traveled to other islands in the area and also having done a number of cruises, there truly is such a thing as an 'ugly American tourist' and with having seen multiple encounters of this behavior displayed, it's not a pretty experience....it's downright embarrassing! In contrast to that, we've met so many wonderful, well mannered travelers from Canada, England and other countries in Europe, who make it a pleasure to interact with, whether it's on the beach, at L'Astrolabe for breakfast or dinner, in Orient Bay village or elsewhere on the island. We come to French St. Martin and Esmeralda Resort NOT expecting it to be a Disney, Sandals, Atlantis or even a Florida spring break type of vacation and we're never disappointed by what we encounter!
Best hotel bed in a long time. Kitchenette great for leftovers snacks - they DO have full kitchen suites. Staff is amazing - felt like we were staying at a relative's house - restaurant on site great authentic French cuisine - from the simple to the gourmet. Anyone wavering between French/Dutch - go French - you can drive anywhere on the island in 30 minutes (40 at busy times max) Beaches are great - there are topless, but family friendly/courteous (I know - I didn't believe that either, but it's really not an issue) and if you are a naturist - no gawkers, no pervs, anything like that.
I have been coming to St. marteen since 1983. I have been to the Esmeralda at least 25 times, and i will be going back again this year, The hotel is not a plush hotel, but it's all about location, where you have 250 steps to one of the greatest beaches in the world, orient beach. Your hotel room includes to lounge chairs and an umbrella , and as i have said bedfore the beach is awesome, as far as the hotel it's pretty basic accommodations so if your a four seasons person then the Esmeralda is not for you, but It's a friendly staff, great people working there, the restaurant on the beach called Coco beach is just fantastic,
my thought are this is a 3 star boutique, smaller place looked like it was a town house complex turned in to a resort it works well there are 4 rooms in a unit with a pool, we enjoyed the pool, rooms do need updating, with that said if your looking for a relaxed atmosphere you flip flops on all the time this is for you, beach is out front 3 minute walk,
We recently stayed here for the second time and it is an excellent place to stay. Nicely laid out and well kept grounds. Semi-private pools that are well maintained. Very good restaurant with a friendly staff. A short walk (minutes) to the Coco Beach club, which is also excellent. The flaw is that the housekeeping left something to be desired. The tile floors were not clean at all. The bathrooms had the "once over", which was okay, but it really needed a good spring cleaning. But in spite of that we would stay again as all the good out weighs this complaint. But if you are a bit fussy, keep it in mind.
