Grand Case Beach Club
- What's Included
We just got back from 5 days of heaven. I have never ever been to a place so relaxing and accommodating. We stayed on the second floor in the 200's and had a full view of the bay. The room was completely renovated and beautiful . King size bed and amazing service. The sunset cafe where we ate most dinners and breakfasts was outstadning. We also did a snorkel trip to Creole Rock and that was amazing. With a short walk into town to change it up a bit we have really found heaven on earth. We have been to many islands and this is the first place we will return to many times. I have always read reviews of people going places for 20 years and I thought this was just another thing like that but I will be one of those people.Props to Benjamin, Philippe, Andrew , Ophelia and Stephanie . Thats not to discount the rest of the staff as they all could not do enough for us . GREAT PLACE WE WILL BE BACK.
This was our second time to French St. Martin and first time to this hotel. We will be back.GCBC is a ~50 room beachfront hotel in Grand Case, a strip of beach north of Marigot with a street of restaurants and a few stores. The property is made up of perhaps 8 buildings each housing ~10 units (which include kitchenettes) or the restaurant / pool / main office. A substantial number of the larger units are owned in what looks like a reside-or-rent arrangement. The 3-star property is maintained in a style similar to other "beach clubs:" a bit less polish than a 4-star hotel hotel, but lower prices, more personal attention, and family-friendliness. During our week's stay, staff addressed us by name. Food at the restaurant is materially less expensive than the finer restaurants in the town, but quality is better. There's not a lot of nickel-and-diming: continental breakfast (pastries and coffee), beach towels, beach chairs, etc., were all included in our rate. The beach is one of the smaller in the area, but while no beach on the island is private, this one is more so. The hotel offers a variety of toys (think snorkels and masks, paddle boards, canoes, etc.) and coordinates with a number of local vendors for diving, sailing, etc., though these cost extra. The pool is recently renovated and a nice alternative to the beach. Guests ranged from older couples, some of whom appeared to be unit owners, to families with children and young couples like us. It seemed like a majority of guests were American, but we definitely heard British, French, and German guests. Note: Most restaurants and retailers on the island don't take credit cards for amounts under ~15 Euro, and the nearest ATM is in Marigot. USD and EUR are widely accepted.
What a wonderful experience my family and I had at the Grand Case Beach Club. We were there from July 21-28 (room 54) which is the two bedroom, two bath ocean front suite. Everything from check-in (Rosalind is the best!) to the actual room (so beautiful and clean) to the view... THE VIEW! Absolutely spectacular. You can literally look to your left and spot every little locale along Grand Case's strip. The beaches are out of this world (one small one on our side that was always pretty secluded) to a more busier one on the other side of the hotel where The Sunset Cafe is located. That side has umbrellas (which you definitely need... it gets hot!) and comfy beach chairs. You can also speak to the super helpful staff about excursions to Anguilla or St Barth's and snorkeling. Canoeing and paddle boarding, as well as snorkeling gear were free (you just have to pay 5 dollars for the mouth piece). Any concerns we had were quickly addressed (some of the trees were overgrown and blocking our ocean view, the next day a worker was outside trimming them. The screen door to our second floor balcony wasn't closing right, so they sent their handyman right away, although he couldn't fix it because the owner of the apt. apparently didn't put in the right door, he certainly did try!) and some of THE BEST restaurants in St Martin were a five minute walk away. The village surrounding the hotel is pretty run-down, but I loved how the hotel had a security guy outside walking up and down the road making sure guests are always safe when walking to and from the hotel. Thank you Rosalind, Nick and Kristina... can't wait to return!
Overall, this is a nice, quiet hotel. It's located on the French side in a rather secluded area. We did have to use a lot of taxi services to get to some of the places that we wanted to go. It provided the basic necessities- clean, etc. Most of the staff was very nice, especially the gentlemen that worked at the cafe (which serves good food with nice scenery). The beach is nice with great security. The only negative I had was the limit on towels and wash clothes. Our requests for more seemed to upset the front desk and housekeeping at times.
GCBC is located on the North end of Grand Case. The facility is gated and very secure. Not to worry though as the entire area was very safe. The facility is based around 5 buildings of lodging, an administration/lobby and restaurant. Very accessible and easy to navigate. All of the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Lobby staff offered a warm welcome and continued to be so helpful throughout our stay, from setting up restaurant reservations, to arranging transportation (Mr. Johnny) and more.We had two rooms, one with a king bed and one with 2 doubles. Both rooms very similar in that they had kitchenettes and we stocked should we had wanted to eat in or even cook in our room. A welcome bottle of wine was included in our package as was daily continental breakfast.Room was clean and comfortable with current styling. We were located on the ground floor and each room had a small patio outside with a few patio chairs. Housekeeping was very efficient each day and refreshed items as needed. The restaurant, Sunset Cafe, was perhaps our favorite part of GCBC. The restaurant and bar are located right on the water and provides delicious food, drinks and views all day long. The staff were a delight and we enjoyed our time with them. Special thanks and kudos to Philippe, Sabrina, Arnaud, Marie and Elise. The staff is so kind and gracious and remembers guest names and likes and even their plans for the day. They truly make your visit a true joy.A Watersports desk is also on site and Jerome, Amory and Simon are quick to offer help, suggestions and service on the beach. They can set up your beach umbrella, get your drinks and food to your beach chair and help arrange excursions and activities throughout Saint Martin and the nearby islands too.GCBC is just a short walk into the center of Grand Case and the many shops and multitude of restaurants. It is an easy 5-7 minute walk each way and very safe. At night a security guard is on duty on the road leading to GCBC but I felt absolutely safe in the entire area all day and into the late evening.Grand Case is a great village/town with an incredible sense of community. I haven't heard so many car horns honked since NYC but instead of anger they are to say hello to friends and family as folks travel through town. It seems everyone knows everyone.
