Nice style beach club with stylish location and better facilities. Delighted to visit a second time and be greeted like family. The food was all bets we have had on the island, but not cheap. We keep returning. Did not stay in the hotel (didn't actually see one)
We stayed at La Playa on Orient Bay the first part of August 2017 for our twentieth wedding anniversary. We had a wonderful stay at the hotel. We split our stay between the French and Dutch sides of the island, staying at La Playa on the French side. I wish we would have spent our whole week at La Playa instead of just three days. Before we arrived I received a call from Kelly at the front desk that the room we had initially reserved was not available, she explained the situation and offered us a Premium Junior Suite instead. The room was prefect for our stay, recently remodeled and beautiful. The hotel is in the midst of a remodel, with what looked like half of the rooms already remodeled and the other half currently being worked on. The hotel is only a few hundred steps from the beach, which is just perfect to get you away but not too far away from the beach. The staff at the La Playa restaurant and bar were attentive and friendly to our needs and the continental breakfast that was included every morning was excellent.Several restaurants and a market were only a hundred steps from our room so dinner was easy to get to in the evening. The market next door was great to pick up some bottled water and snacks to take to the beach with us during the day. Some people have commented about La Playa being crowded from the cruise ship tourists. The last day of our stay it was obvious that a cruise ship group had come in as there were more than just a dozen of us on the beach that day, but it still did not feel crowded on the beach. We had an excellent stay and great service from Kelly and everyone else at the front desk. The only request I would wish for is that there was a foot shower located somewhere on the path from the beach back to the hotel. We will definitely be back to stay at La Playa next time we come to St Maarten!
Walking along beautiful Orient Bay we came across La Playa. The beautiful turquoise theme colors and inviting outside bar and restaurant immediately grabbed our attention. Staff was friendly; rum punch was delicious and the lobster salad was fresh and tasty. The highlight was the tableside presentation of beef tartar. Prepared with the usual ingredients and a few surprises! Large enough to share! Excellent spot and the view is lovely!!!
We have stopped in st Martin several times over the years by cruise ship and there is never enough time it seems because you have to get back to the ship on time . We have not been the type to actually fly into places like this because we enjoy adventuring but we finally said that's it we're going ! But where to stay ! We loved orient beach but looking at the map it looked so isolated and I read reviews about other places people really loved we hadn't tried . We said let's just go back to what we love . We loved being steps away from the sand , we loved our completely renovated junior suite room : equipped with a mini kitchenette , A/C works like an igloo , bed was super comfortable ( I seriously need to sleep on a comfortable bed ) Upon arrival check in was excellent. The staff is FANTASTIC from reception to the bar /restaurant. , which we enjoyed every day . The food is very good . There are water sports to rent and you can walk down this very wide beach and shop at a couple beachwear boutiques or have a drink and a bite to eat at another place on the beach . The sand is soft and the waves can get big . Families enjoy it but if I had young children they would really enjoy grande case beach club or Westin dawn beach where they have kids programs and the water is more of a calm shallow . There is also a small liquor store and a little market to shop as well steps away and we thought prices were very reasonable . You don't need a car if you stay here and you're not looking for non stop action , but we did rent a jeep which was fantastic. It's an easy drive to get around the island and visit every beach , you can't get lost there is 1 main road and signs everywhere of where to turn . At night is difficult to navigate because it is so dark . (Hertz was fantastic by the way to rent from. We booked online and when we left the airport hertz picked us up , their place was 2 min away and we were driving our rental away about 15 min later not kidding ) So we were able to stay where we wanted and just visit the other beaches . We still thought none compared and would rather stay at our beachfront la playa and walk out of our room barefoot than in a hotel with all the marble and glam ( that's for Miami :). We can't wait to go back !!! By the way at the time of this review they are still renovating other rooms and parts of the building that I hear won't be done until December so you may need to ask for a renovated room . I hope this review was helpful happy travels !
I'd go back there in a heartbeat. Very inexpensive in the summer and I don't know what the high season rates are, but my room was wonderful with a partial sea view. Nice breakfast served out by the beach and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Great french restaurants a few hundred yards away!
