Kate was the deciding factor with us staying here. Compared two other resorts at Orient Bay Resort. Katy & Kelly are very sweet people. Had a second floor room. Bamboo canopy bed. Kitchette with burners , microwave, mini fridge, love seat, chair, coffee table, foot stool & TV. Balcony had two chairs with partial view of ocean. Safe in room. Large bathroom has decorative rock. Parking behind gate. Wi-Fi available and they helped get connected. Same with figuring out TV. Continental breakfast on beach with Bacon/eggs option. Nice pool. Ocean shore break not extreme.I'm glad came during off season. One person on jet ski and one wind sailing, and that was it for people on the beach. Enjoyed having much scenery to ourselves. Store and restaurants within very short walking distance.
Came here 4 years ago and returned last week . The staff was friendly , lobby is renovated but the beach front is horrible Trash everywhere, not kept up everyday , old wooden furniture everywhere and no one helped to set up our chairs . 4 years ago they had more staff, buddas statues around the beach, a bar and BBQ at night , It is off season but Atleast clean up the beach mess ! I would return But not pay more than 130$ a night
Perfect location right next to the beach, close to the C/O area, very clean, staff was very friendly and helpful, very spacious room with nice view, you can use the pool anytime. The closed parking is an ease of mind. would definitely go there next time.
The plumbing works but the faucets were designed in the 70's. The bedding is clean but the beds are from the 60's like sleeping on bedding made of hay and blankets set on a barn floor. This hotel is a favorite for local families. When we were there last week there were 8 to 12 children with parents in the pool almost every evening, so if you are looking for a romantic getaway this might not be the right hotel. La playa is right on Orient beach which is one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean so there's no shortage of day-trippers from the cruise ships so you'll have anywhere from 100 to 150 people per day on the beach at La playa. However, the beach is not raked daily so if you go, take water shoes or you'll have to walk thru the sand fleas in the seaweed. The beach bar restaurant operation is constantly changing ownership. This part I don't understand because the business is here but just like the hotel it's no hands on deck to do the work. The hotel workers that are there do an outstanding job with what they have to work with but it's way past time for management to renovate this property. Rusty hotel guest room doors, missing TP holders in the beach bar rest rooms, rest room doors that don't lock for privacy, rundown beach bar changing rooms on the patio once again doors that won't lock. No screens on the guest room patio doors, no screens on the bath room windows in the toilet rooms to keep rodents out. The front desk stays open only from 8:30 am until 8:30 pm and the pool bar is only open (2 days a week) on (Wednesday from 4:30pm until 8:30pm) and again on (Saturday from 4:30pm until 8:30pm) is really a downer. But then again if your target clientele is local families all of this may be right on track. One of the biggest disappointments was having no (hand/ wash towels) in the bath room. Other guests told us they went to a local supermarket and purchased wash cloths to have in their bath room, sad. When we checked in we were told that we could have a full hot cooked breakfast if we chose to for an additional fee but the next day we were told to look elsewhere and that no hot food was being prepared in the mornings. So my wife and I left the hotel the next morning and went out into the shopping area just next door to the hotel and it was only a 2-minute walk and had the most wonderful selection of breakfast and lunch restaurants that you could imagine and one of the restaurant workers was kind enough to recommend that we visit the Alamanda Hotel and resort which was only a 2-minute walk from the same area that we were dining and take a tour. It was an outstanding tour a few extra steps from the beach but much a nicer property than La playa.....and of course more money but at the end of the day you get what you pay for......
I do need to qualify my review and say that I was there for a brief stay at the beach and restaurant, not an actual hotel guest. Staff was pleasant and low key. However, manager Katy was confrontational and rude. We had prepaid for the beach chairs. They, in fact, were set up for us by another resort manager. But rather than taking whatever her personal issues were up with the other manager, she came yelling at the guests while swinging a flip flop with one hand as if she's ready to strike. I've never experienced anything so ludicrous, yet it apparently happens on a regular basis at this resort. It's incomprehensible how someone in the hospitality business should stay employed treating any guests in such a fashion. Definitely would not recommend as long as the said manager remains in charge.
