The facilities aren't new but, then again, it's not tattered and torn. My wife and I have been going there for a number of years and have gotten to know the friendly staff. We enjoy La Playa's nearness to the beach and being only steps away from a Plaza that offers a good number of restaurant of varying cuisines. We really like La Playa!
The people working at La Playa are great and the restaurant that is attached serves up great food as well (although a little on the expensive side but that is all of the restaurants on Orient Bay). You get beach seats for free and you get a discount for parasailing so those are nice perks as well. The only downside is that the rooms are outdated and the wifi signal isn't that great unless you are in the lobby. My wife and I couldn't get any wifi reception from our room. Also, they leave the windows and doors open when they clean which allows a ton of mosquitos in. During our 3 days we didn't get our room cleaned and made sure to shut all the windows and we still killed at least 20 mosquitos. Lastly, the beds and pillows were terrible. The bed itself is hard as a rock and the pillows were either rocks or completely flat.
Came here on vacation and were told that our stay was upgraded to Cabana room. What a disaster! Huge cockroaches 5-6cm length crawling down the towels, mirror, walls. My husband was killing them right and left. But that wasn't even the worst part of stay.... Friday and Saturday night the DJ parties were blasting loudly music until 2 am, causing me to have severe migraines followed by vomiting. When my husband came out to talk to the manager, he was told nothing can be done until it's over. If u throw parties, hotel should never put guests into the cabana. People come on vacation and not being able to sleep and relax at night bits the purpose of such vacation and complete ruins it.The only positive of la playa orient bay hotel is its proximity to wonderful beach and an amazing la playa cafe with succulent food for lunch ( never had dinner there).I would never recommend this place for couples or families with kids or anyone who wishes to have a resting nights.
The hotel is a little old, the beach full of seaweed and without privacy, breakfast poorly, generally speaking French and feels they are nationalists. The pool and garden generally beautiful. Manager help in general if you need anything. Recommended for retired quiet and nothing exciting. Prices are very high. Food was little and poor quality.
The La Playa was the closest hotel we could get to the beach. And although it was nice, there were a few things that we didn't like. The staff was not all that friendly. They sometimes acted like it was a pain to have to stop and answer a question or make you a drink. We were not informed that all the outlets in the rooms are European. So we could not use any of our appliances. They did provide a very cheap and ill fitting adapter to charge our phones. On our last night there, all the power went out and we were left in the dark. We finally left the hotel and returned later to find they had placed 2 very small votive candles in our room while we were gone. On our first morning, we went out to the beach and chose beach chairs. Immediately, a guy came over and said we could not sit in them. They were reserved for locals, cruise ship people, or people that pay for them, and since we were staying at the hotel, we had to sit in the chairs at the back. He was quite nasty about it and made us feel like we were inferior somehow. The continental breakfast in the morning was wonderful. Outside seating with wonderful croissants and fruit. And Orient Beach is a beautiful beach to stay on. Next time I would choose to walk a little farther and stay at a different place!
