Mercure Saint Martin and Marina
- What's Included
- All Inclusive Features
The Mercure hotel is located on the Sandy Ground strip. It offers a beach, a nice pool and a water sports club proposes many activities (flyboard / hoverboard, jet sky rides 1h, half-day, full day with meal) for reasonable prices, a spa, a wellness center, a shop. The main asset is the beauty of the site and the completeness of it's service offer. The rooms have been renovated recently and definitely propose a high quality standard. They all have a terrace although the view varies significantly. Be sure to ask for a lagoon view. Room service is good and rooms are clean. What amazes are the gardens. Many flowers, shrubs, palm trees and a superbe night color changing lighting. The whole is nicely cleaned-up. The manager / owner has a passion for arts. Many works of art around the site, large paintings of the walls. It's an obvious differentiator which we seldom see in resorts. The pool is nicely located near the bar / restaurant. Its generally calm during the week and has a more family ambiance on Sundays. The Air France crews stay at the Mercure, meaning it obviously offers calm and a good level of service. The front desk, although held by young staff, is efficient and responsive. One thing I have appreciated is that the general manager is available in case the special requests you may have cannot be fulfilled or in case of bad service. He involves himself in person. Your responsibility is just asking to meet him!The restaurant offers a medium level cuisine with European and Creole influences. The service can sometimes be lengthly but is responsive in case you claim a quicker service. Prices are in the 15 to 25 € average, which is fair considering the quality. Special events like seminaries, weddings can be organized on demand. The breakfast self-service is slightly expensive (22 €) but definitely offers a large variety of continental and American choices. The hotel proposed a car rental service, which we've experienced, for a very competitive price (25 €/d). This is very convenient as there is no need to grab a taxi to go here or there pick your car, drop it back. Prices drop for an extended stay. The hotel proposes a transfer / taxi service for a good price in a recent, large and well maintained car or minivan (it's not a detail!) depending on the number of guests. The hotel can organize your transfers or excursions. Transfer prices to / from the airport are charged 20 €.If you are a business traveler or a family, this hotel can fulfill both in a relatively smooth manner. A free wifi service is available and meeting rooms can be booked as needed. The general impression is that the hotel, if not absolutely perfect on all service aspects, accomodates your willingness, way of life and culture. Remember that Sint-Marteen / Saint-Martin is very international. Staff is bilingual French / English, if not also fluent in Spanish.I recommend the Mercure whatever the purpose of your visit is if you look for a higher service than average and deserve some calm.
I stayed at this hotel for a few days on vacation with friends. I found the staff was very friendly and helpful. Most of us where English speaking, but we did have a french-speaking person with us as well. Here are major points below:Check-in: easy and quick...you have to leave a credit card on file for incidentals, which is fine. The staff was helpful, and helped us arrange taxis and transportation to and from some of our destinations. Room: the room we very nice. We booked one of the privilege duplex rooms, which was one of the big, loft style rooms with 2 bathrooms (1 king and two twins). The view of the marina was BEAUTIFUL from the room. The room was clean as well. At times, we say a few small ants, but not unexpected in the climate. We also had an expresso machine in our room, and were able to make tea also. The staff was helpful, and brought us towels are needed (I don't think they have those small washcloths available). It also came with a refrigerator and TV. The electricity in the room went out overnight for one night, but staff sent the technician early the next morning and it was promptly fixed. They let us check-out late the next day at no additional charge, which was nice (usually an additional 10 Euros).I was pleased with how they handled everything. Hotel grounds and Amenities: Hotel grounds were kept nicely. The pool area was simple, nice and clean. There is a restaurant in the hotel, but I agree with the other reviews, it was expensive. But the food was very good. Breakfast every morning was satisfying also. There were eggs, bacon, potatoes, breads, lunch- meats/cheeses, orange juice, water, and pancakes. No complaints at all, and the staff at breakfast was nice and helpful! We didn't walk to the actual beach, and we also did not go sit by the lagoon either, so I can't speak on any of that, unfortunately. St. Martin: The hotel is on the French side, which is definitely more quiet and low-key than the Dutch side. The currency is the Euro on the French side, but everyone takes US dollars, which is great. Just make sure you ask them what the price is in US dollars. There were a number of small eateries within a 5 minute walk from the hotel. There was a sandwich shop close by that was delicious and a pizzeria as well. The prices were cheaper also. There is also a souvenir shop in the hotel. There is WI-Fi at t he hotel and it works in the room and on the hotel grounds, which was excellent. We took a taxi to go party on the Dutch side one night and had a great time! Although be warned, the ride to and from was expensive. Try to negotiate the price if you can. The airport in St. Martin is air-conditioned and we did not have any issues making our way to our destination from the airport. I can't speak much on how much a taxi ride will cost. We arranged private transportation to and from the airport before our trip. But the ride to the French side was about 25-30 minutes. It was scenic, and full of narrow roads and hills. I recommend taking a trip to St. Barths, Anguilla, or any of the other small islands off the coast of St. Martin while you're visiting. It's definitely worth it! The beaches are beautiful, and the views are spectacular. The weather was in the upper 80s while we were there, and yes, it was humid! But it could not have been more perfect. Beautiful place to visit.
Front desk very friendly as was the bar/restaurant staff. Great fresh OJ and pineapple juice.Hotel grounds were beautiful at night and quiet. No wash cloths in the bath room, but all was nice and clean. WIFI worked well.Restaurant had tasty lunch. Three friendly cats roam around to help with leftovers. Will return.
I went here for camp and had a lovely time. In case it is not obvious, there is no beach on the property. Pools, yes. Beach, no. If you want to get to a beach, it is a walk-- which I normally do not mind, but the roads are not necessarily structured for pedestrian walking. Food was good. Although I did not have a bad experience at this hotel, I would not necessarily visit again UNLESS I was attending camp again.
Hotel Mercure has been an island of peace and wellness! I was in St. Martin for a few days and had a great time at the Mercure hotel. My room was very spacious with a lovely private patio, the beach is well equipped with nice and fun amenities. Make sure you dine at their restaurant, the food is amazing; everything is super fresh and delightful.
