Mercure Saint Martin and Marina
- What's Included
- All Inclusive Features
Been traveling to St Martin for many years and decided to stay somewhere other than Simpson Bay for a change. The hotel was nice and clean, staff was as accommodating as possible, they close early. Bar/Pool/Spa staff was pleasant. I don't believe this was a four star hotel but very close, I wouldn't stay again.
If i could do a check list everything would be checked great or outstanding. Sint Maartin is a great island ,but mostly service not a pro of theirs or my experiences are not great. At Mercure we are met with a proffesional and great service. At arrival we came in at the same time as a huge tourbus full of travellers we believe from air france. The desk helped us immediatly we did not have to wait. Only issues was we booked a king size bed and they had to change our room to accomodate us. Great place for families and just a couple. Rooms are big and nice. Swimming pool is beautiful and beach is good. The whole hotel is like an art exhibit and wonderful.
We have been coming to Saint Martin / Sint Maarten for a while now and always stay at The Mercure. It's a lovely hotel with friendly staff and a great location, close to the airport and the towns of Marigot and Maho (although Saint Martin is so small, pretty much everything is close by!). The rooms are all newly refurbished, very very clean, with AC, TV and comfortable beds and your own refrigerator. The food in the restaurant is excellent and some of the best on the island (my favourite is the mahi mahi tartare, which I could not stop ordering!). There is also a small marina and a small private beach where you can do all kinds of watersports. The walls are also adorned with massive art murals of various masterpieces by artists as diverse and Mondrian to Da Vinci. They look fantastic and we loved playing the game of guessing of matching the artist to the mural. There are a few truly awesome beaches very close by too. Would definitely recommend this hotel!
I had never been to St. Martin before but I heard many people talking about how beautiful it was - a slice of Europe in the Caribbean. When I was doing research on where to stay I wasn't sure if I should stay Dutch Side or French Side, and which hotel since there are so many options. A friend suggested Mercure and I am so happy he did!! Staying French side gave me access to beautiful beaches and fantastic restaurants and more of an island feel. Mercure is perfectly located to access all sides of the island easily. From the second I arrived at the Mercure I felt at home. From the warm reception when I received my room key to the open air restaurant beach front to cleaning staff and the owners and managers who are very active onsite. They are always around making sure the place is kept clean and service is at it's best. The breakfast is one of the best I have had in years. Full warm and cold buffet with delicious pastries baked fresh each morning. For lunch the salads are huge and the chicken or tuna steak (FRESH!) served on the salad is extremely generous especially for the price. My room was spotless when I arrived, great air conditioning, really good hair dryer, large washroom with a big shower and tons of closet space. I had a refrigerator with complementary water. Some units also have a kitchen which I may take for my next stay which will be longer. The decor is modern and inviting with very comfortable beds and the perfect pillows!!! I slept very well each night. The unique and original artwork placed all around the resort is beautiful and inspiring, I felt as if I was living in an art gallery. In the evening they are beautifully lit and make for a nice walk around the resort. I spent quite a bit of time on site because I love the infinity pool overlooking the beach especially for sunset. There is a nice beach front area with hammocks and lounge chairs where you can spend all day just relaxing and reading. Plus the food is some of the best on the island so I didn't find a need to go to far for food when it was right there.Baie Rouge is very close - beautiful beach with great Rum Punch made fresh on the beach. There is also a fantastic Italian restaurant just across the street walking distance.I will definitely be returning to St. Martin and staying at the Mercure!
We had a room on the 3rd floor, the hotel is Caribbean style, open air walkways, NO elevators, tile flooring. An adapter plug is needed. Bring a power strip to allow yourself more US outlets. No USB charging ports in rooms, No wash cloths at resort. A hand towel is the smallest towel/wash cloth available, which is very inconvenient. Our room had a King size bed and a twin bed which is good if you have small children, however the twin bed placement makes the full length mirror unusable. The 3rd floor has the best view, if you don't mind No elevator. Car rental in St. Maarten is inexpensive, less than $180 USD for 6 days. One Taxi ride will cost $40- 60, expensive. Rental Cars are available at the airport and we had no difficulty. Suggestion would be to get the smallest car you can because some of the streets are narrow and parking stalls are not very wide. This resort is located in a quiet, out of the city, area. If you prefer a variety in dining options and you prefer some "night life" then definitely rent a car. Getting around the island is easy after one day, and they drive on the right side of the road. There is a beach across the street. It's small and narrow, slopping into the water and requires a little walk to get to. The resort has a sand beach area that opens to the calm bay where lots of water sporting takes place.
