A perfect destination for travelers who want a few days of relaxation, beach and sun, offering tranquility and fun alike.
It's 9 pm my baby fell out of his crib last night at midnight because the crib broke. I was nice enough to keep calm and calmed front desk in the morning to get a new crib. I had to call 4 times and nothing. It's 9 pm and I'm waiting.....at the lobby with my baby in his stroller. I'm appalled by the lack of empathy and courteousness at this hotel. It's incredibly sad.
The Riu Palace is a beautiful hotel with a large spread dedicated to lovely trees. shrubs and flowers. At the end of the garden is the beach with white sands and blue waters. The sea itself is clam with small waves and bathers can also enjoy water sports for both adults and children. The pool is large and very well maintained. The restaurants are near the pool and there are snack bar and bars within easy access to bathers at the pool or at the beach. Food menu is varied and tasty and beautifully presented. This is an all inclusive resort so expect to gain just a few pounds. Night time entertainment is colorful and dynamic. On some nights a comedy section was added, truly entertaining. My wife and I spent five nights but could very well have enjoyed a few more. There is a mariner and a good taxi service to the capital Marigot. The hotel shops tend to be a bit pricey. All in all it a place I would willingly return to, there's great hospitality and safety and comfort.
I will start by saying that the staff at Riu were fabulous. Every single staff member had a smile and a friendly conversations. The food at the Riu was very good. I enjoyed every meal that I had. I did go to every restaurant and never had any difficulty getting a table. I have been to a few All Inclusive resorts never a Riu. I do wish they had a beach restaurant of some kind so we didn't have to eat at a restaurant even at lunch. Even if you had plastic plates that could be used by the beach and pool area. The rooms as mentioned in many reviews need to be renovated. We originally had room 1105 when we checked it. The musty smell was overwhelming. The Marina rooms have all tiles. No musty smell in these rooms. All the furniture is aged. The beach is very nice. My husband and I rented a car and did some island and beach hopping. This side is much quieter than the Dutch side which was perfect for us. I don't know if we would go back to a Riu after this holiday. We normally stay at 4 and 5 star resorts and the Riu Palace didn't meet our expectation.
Overall:-beautiful, quiet resort nestled in a private bay. Ideal for young families.-beautiful beach- clean surroundings-hard working staff-good menu variety at breakfast and dinner, lunch choices were repetitive.-Afternoon tea choices could have included cookies, pastries -very limited room service menuA very relaxing holiday that was well organized by Sunwing!!
This resort is located at a marina The beach is beautiful and the resort is nicely laid out. Our room was on the second floor in a building on the marina side, so our back door opened to the canal. It was a nice place to sit on the mornings watching a few boats leave. It's not a big commercial marina so there isn't a ton of traffic just a few mostly private boats There is a large French Customs boat that comes in and docks it was across from our room. There are a lot of Iguanas here. In the mornings there would be 5 or 6 by the canal. They never bothered us and mostly run away as you get close. A few of the big ones won't run, but won't bother you either. Just be prepared, there are a lot of them. Oh yeah, one swam across the pool while we were there. The pool is beautiful, nicely laid out. They could use more and better umbrellas. I'm very fair skin and had trouble finding a place with shade to get out of the direct sun, but in fairness we don't go to the pool or beach early in the mornings when more would be available. See Eddie at the pool, she was great, you can tell she loves her job and interacting with the guests. Get her to make you a drink that needs shaking! Our room was quite nice, we didn't have any problems with it at all. The biggest issue we had waa not being prepared enough. We should have probably purchased a power converter. The French side uses 220v, not 110 like here in the states. They provide a hairdryer in the room, you have to hold the button down for it to run. There are 2 plugs in the bathroom, but they are both 220v, no 110 plug. Just as well I couldn't use the straightner, the humidity would have frizzed it back up anyway. There is a strip on the desk that will take American style plugs, but it is still 220v, so check your phone chargers and computer plugs, they will say if they can work on 220. All of ours did, so we plugged our electronics in there. If you plug something in that doesn't take 220v, it will probably burn it up We did like that the resort was smaller than the other Rius we've visited. Now the downside for us..the staff didn't seem as friendly as other locations. We stay in the Palace in Cabo San Lucas yearly and their service is awesome. It's probably unfair to compare them, but hard not to expect what you are accustomed to. The buffet food was ok, the staff seemed rather unorganized. Tables would not get cleaned for others who were waiting to get seated. It appeared they were short staffed in there. Overall we enjoyed staying here. We didn't like St Martin as much as Mexico, so we probably won't go back, but if we did we would stay on Anquilla as we thought it was beautiful there. If you get a Chan e take a tour there. Stop by and see the Sunshine Shack, tell Garvey hey!
