Riu Palace St Martin

- All Inclusive Features
A perfect destination for travelers who want a few days of relaxation, beach and sun, offering tranquility and fun alike.
we had to see the marina next door so booked one night at this "place" for its convenience. As we pulled up I already knew it was not set to our standards. as we stood at reception to check in, she wasn't doing anything but made us wait anyway. then informed us we have an exceptional room but not ready so put on the bracelets and we went to lunch. OMG horrid. the food was, well lets just say you get what you pay for. and it was overly crowded in the resteraunt so we sat at the tables near the bathroom and yes you guessed it, smelled like s--t as we were eating. gross. we decided to leave , we didn't get the keys to see the room. and im sorry but I did not even want to sit on that beach or pool either! the picture is nice that they show...but its not how it is.
We spent 5 nights at the Riu. It was a great time! The food was very good and the buffet had plenty to choose from. Plenty of good drinks! The restaurant system is a bit cumbersome as you didn't always know when the specialty places would be open. But once in it was worth it! And the Krystal restaurant was impossible to get into unless you were in line 45 minute prior to opening. The grounds and beach are nice. The pool was nice too however it is starting to show some age and is in need of repair as is the hot tub that was not open the entire time we were there. There was also lighting issues on some of the walkways. Rooms were clean and updated. The door sweeps could be better to keep little critters out. The staff was amazing! They really seem to enjoy their jobs and that made our stay that much better.
We came for a wedding. The wedding was lovely. We were excited to try another brand of all inclusive resorts as we frequent Sandals Resorts brand for our all-inclusive vacation.Riu Palace Saint Martin left little to be desired. We will not be trying any other Riu locations. The price for what you will experience is not worth it. Take your money and try Sandals and Excellence brands.Cons:There is broken tiles all over the resort, including inside the pool and throughout the walkway of the resort. I almost fell because of the broken tile heading to my room on morning after breakfast. The tile in the bathroom in the room looked like someone off just slapped some glue and pasted the tile on the side of the tub, literally like a kindergartner could have done betterj. See photo. The big jacuzzi does not work and looks gross. None of the fountains around the resort are operable.I killed at least 4 spider like insects in the room, and there were several spider webs all over the room. I'm actually staring at a spider right now while writing the review. Our pillows were DIRTY upon arrival, which is digusting! Which leads me to believe that our pillows and possibly sheets and linens heading that been changed from the previous guest can you say Yuck! There was an iron print on the bed runner. Seriously an easy fix.The shower/tub in the room has a half door, so water splashes all over the place. The rooms have carpet, so if I had dirty pillows upon arrival, I cannot imagine the filth in the carpet. The food is not good and made my partner really sick. Krystal Restaurant : don't even try it. It's so nasty. The service felt rushed. I arrived before the other 2 in my party and was told that I had to order for the other 2 since they hadn't arrived yet???There was a bird in the snack bar eating off of the buffet. When I informed the staff, he looked at me though I had lost it. The website says 4 restaurants, but one building doubles as a steakhouse one night and a french restaurant the next. The same building is also the snack bar as well as the lunch buffet. They no longer do reservations for the restaurants despite having listed reservation required even now, so you literally have to line up before the opening (6:30pm) and hope you are one of the lucky couples/families who are seated. If not, head over to the buffet, were you'll surely be underwhelmed and leave sick. There is one pool only, and getting drinks while in the pool takes a long time. The staff see you there but still look pass you. You have to scream "excuse me" to be noticedThe beach is rocky. The bars often ran out of liquor, especially at the Le Lobby Bar.You have to request that they come in your room to change the temperature to cool or else you will be set on fire for your entire trip.So our room had an iron however there was no ironing board and we could not find the blow dryer it was hidden next to the refrigerator. No turn down service which is standard at all resorts or at least thought, which is also what is listed on there website. Also there is no such thing as 24 hour room service because it took several hours just to get towels and washcloths for my room Pros:The wedding was nice as a guest but the photographer ruined the moment for the bride and groom. The actual island is beautiful (not to be confused with the resort).Claude is great and wears several hats on the resort, truly great hospitality. Christian and Jessica were also very pleasant and genuinely helpful and kind.
This was our first all inclusive resort experience, and I have to say it might be the last. The hotel itself was nice, the location is beautiful and well maintained. The staff was great and very helpful. The food was ok, the breakfast lunch and diner buffets were just ok, nothing special and the food never tasted fresh even if you got there when it first opened. The themed restaurants were very nice, the food was delicious, we especially liked the crystal restaurant but it was only open twice while we were there. The bar situation was the most disappointing I think, the only beer they had was Heineken, the bars were not well stocked at all, there were very few options and almost all of them were very low quality brands that we never heard of. We found one bartender that could make a decent martini but really if you wanted something besides wine or a fruity mixed drink you were probably out of luck, we asked one bartender if he could make an old fashioned and he didn't even know what it was. For being all inclusive we ended up eating off campus a lot because the food was not very good. We won't be going back to this resort in the future.
The hotel is beautiful. Its a very relaxing area. The french side is the quiet side,if you want alot of entertainment you need to go to the dutch side. The staff was so friendly and did get everyone excited for the planned events. Room was beautiful and kept clean and the mini bar filled everyday. The only thing is that if you go on non season selection for dinner becomes slim. The buffet style food was delicious and had a good selection of different foods, but trying to get in on the al la carte dining was slim. But in front of the entrance there was a restaurant called calypso which had great food but not included in the inclusive vacation. Had a great time! Great staff!
