Riu Palace St Martin
- What's Included
- All Inclusive Features
A perfect destination for travelers who want a few days of relaxation, beach and sun, offering tranquility and fun alike.
I have stayed at two other Riu hotels and this one in below Riu standard and the only water view is the lagoon not the ocean. Rooms were clean but my room had no handrail in the show and I had to purchase adapters for electric and finally on the second day was able to get a converter (220 to 110) so my wife could use her hair iron. We visited other all inclusive hotels and found them to be a higher standard.
Lovely hotel still changing over, but riu quality! Everyone at hotel was friendly and attentive! We have stayed at several riu's and look forward to staying at more! Great job guys and gals! See you soon!
Happy to be immersed in the French language. Wonderful staff that greet you at each meal. Need to mention Evelyn and her crew. Rolinda the 'medicine dancing pool happy-hearted soul" and her charming Chris look after all very well. The food and preparation are fresh and plentiful. The buffets are much better than the leftovers of less stars venues. The beverages are not watered down here either. We travelled for Canadian March Break, the most expensive time. The RIU was not full to capacity- those who were here were happy to be on this side of the island. Our understanding is that RIU is in continued processes of upgrading from the previous owners and we agree, a few areas show wear and tear, dated perhaps. Comfortable and pleasant none the less. Enjoy your stay in Anse Marcel.
I really didn't know what to expect since I read so many positive and negative reviews before leaving on this last minute trip. I was pleasantly surprised. The rooms might be a little dated but they were clean and spacious. My only issue with the room was the bathroom door which is actually only a sliding door. The food was really good in my opinion and there was a lot of choice. We had a huge selection of fresh fruit and vegetables everyday as well as many other options. All the staff - housekeeping and especially the dining staff were excellent. Bar staff and animation team were equally excellent but the front desk disappointed me many times. We were 3 people and asked for 3 room keys but they kept telling us they didn't have any and to come back. After trying 3 times we gave up. Come on, it's a piece of plastic. They also failed to replace 3 burnt lights in our room - finally I told a maid, she was on her walkie-talkie in seconds and had them all replaced within a half hour. I had some other experiences with the front desk but I won't write any more about it because there were RIU management visiting and taking surveys.Special thank you to Yvan in animation who was working morning until night, always in a good mood and motivating us to exercise everyday.Yes there is algae that naturally washes up onto the beach once a week but I would not call it "dirt". I felt really bad for the staff (1 person) who was asked to rake the algae in uniform, all day long in the hot sun and move it by wheelbarrow to a different location. There must be some kind of machine you can get to make their life easier? I am sure RIU can afford a better solution than this and I didn't feel they were looking after him.Beware there is no lifeguard and there was an incident while we were there. The hotel is definitely far from the city but we really went there to relax. We did take a day tour to discover the rest of the island which was a little rushed but at least I know which places I would like to return to, to spend more time next trip. All in all I would definitely go back.
This is my second stay at RIU in last 5 years. My first was at Riu Palace in Riviera Maya , Mexico. The RIU here has only been there 3 years (formerly was the Radisson Blue Resort)We went for 4 nights basically just as a gate away and relax. We were glad that the new RIU had opened there because we had very fond memories of Riu from our stay in Mexico. Overall it was a good stay but I have to shoutout fro Corp Chef Victor Ramirez as he went above and beyond to take care of us since we are vegetarians. He checked on us at almost every meal (Breakfast & Dinner) to make sure we have adequate options . For couple of nights he even got me eggless dessert at dinner time since all the desserts / pastries/cakes were made with eggs. That was very nice of him and showed how much he cared for the guests to be happy and satisfied. Also a shout out for all Karryl at the Reception/Lobby. Very friendly. In general all the staff were generally friendly Hotel Location - its about 45 minutes from the airport but is in a good scenic quiet location. There is also a 2.5KM hiking trail in the hill near the hotel. We did a short hike and some good locations to take photos. We did not do the full 2.5KM hike but ran into couple of folks that had done it and they said it was nice. Have to do it early in the morning. Beach - nice beach but small compared to our stay at resorts in Mexico & Dominican Republic. You could walk entire beach length in 15-20 minutes. It is clean and nice to swim inFood - lots of options in main dining hall and couple of theme restaurants to choose from. As vegetarians and I who does not eat eggs, breakfast was quite limited. Lunch & Dinner you could have options although I think they could have more (Riu in Mexico had limitless options for vegetarians). The French and Steakhouse theme restaurant hardly had any veggie options. We dined one nite at the Asian fusion Krystal restaurant and they made us veggie soup and got the grilled veggies from the main dining hall.Hotel Amenities - rooms were large and clean and the ground, swimming pool, lobby etc were well kept. No complains. Large swimming pool and adequate numbers of cabanas, lounges , etc. FYI the Iguanas are protected species in the island and we saw couple of iguanas on the groundsActivities/Recreation - usual foray of structured activities in the pool and on beach for all to participate in including soccer, basketball, darts, etc. The only thing I would suggest is that maybe they should keep a table-tennis , darts and pool table indoors near the lobby or bars so folks can play in the evenings. Currently the table tennis & darts is outdoor and I did not see a pool table. They had the usual nighttime entertainment and DJ pumping out dance music after the entertainment. They also had several activities for kids although there were not so many kids around since time we went most kids were in school around the globe. For younger adults who like to do clubbing or other nighttime entertainment , Not too many activities outside the hotel so if you like going to the market or the casinos/clubs in Dutch section, this is quite far from that area and hotel to Phillipsburg costs about $40 each way. Better off renting the car Overall nice relaxing stay and I am glad I went to Saint Martin and stayed at Riu. However, this does not achieve the same class as the hotel and facilities in Riu, Riviera Maya Mexico.
