Sonesta Maho Beach Resort & Casino
- What's Included
- All Inclusive Features
This resort sits on one end of Maho beach and offers excellent views of the planes landing at SXM. Beach has beautiful blue water and fine white sand(be careful as waves get rather large after planes come in). Pool is somewhat small, but there seemed to be enough loungers at pool and beach for everyone. Food is your basic all inclusive fare with four restaurants to choose from(be aware there are some closures during the week). There is a large selection of alcohol and the frozen drinks are very tasty. Beer of choice here seems to be Coors Light! I would recommend this resort to anyone who loves airplanes and beautiful beaches!
If I wanted to sleep at a club I would have booked one but instead the hotel brought the club to me. My hotel room was literally vibrating for hours every night from the loud club music next to the hotel. The front desk people could do nothing. I asked for a room change nothing and the music played on until 2 am all week. Worst vacation hotel I have ever been in.
I was travelling in St Martin in Feb, and I should have written the review earlier. The stay in Sonesta was a great one. I enjoy the hotel, the beach, the french sides. You will find the food in the Sonesta well much disappointing, but you can still enjoy the trip because the people working there are really nice. I was impressed by Oniel Donal, the door security and the server Shantel Lovell. The first day I arrived in the hotel, I sorted of lost my luggage, and I asked the door securtiy, whose name, I later knew, is Oniel Donal. He really helped me and recovered my luggage, Without him, my vacation would be a disaster. Besides, he gave me so much advice on the travel, for example, how to take a bus, and where to visit, etc.Shantel Lovell is a great person. She took the extra steps to explain everything to do on this island. She worked in both the room service and the dining room service. She did a great job.Besides, there are many other impressive staff in the sonesta hotel. And I will spare no credits for them. And I am looking forward for my next trip there.
This is a large resort, very nice with plenty of restaurants. There is only one pool which is rather small and very crowded plus kids playing and loud music. The big downside is this resort is next to and at the end of the international airport so all day long you hear the plans taxing over for take off plus all the loud noise from the plans landing and taxing, the jet engine and prop noise never stopped, it was almost too much to take.
Just returned yesterday from a great vacation. After reading some pretty bad reviews and warning from travel agent we opted to stay at Sonesta Maho anyway because of the proximity to airport (watching planes take off and land. The staff was friendly and accommodating. At check in you are greeted with champagne cocktail and cool cloths. We jokingly said we preferred scotch and water. He disappeared and returned w/ 2 scotch and waters. Our room on 6th floor (pool/ocean views) was immaculate. Sitting on balcony watching planes, sailboats, yachts, cruise ships and a couple of tall ships was great. Our fridge was stocked daily with what we requested (extra water and Coors lite). Housekeepers were friendly and did a great job. We always had plenty of towels and washcloths.Had breakfast buffet at Palms daily, ate at the Point -beautiful view, and really enjoyed the pizza from the wood fired oven. Had lunch at the Yacht Club at Simpson Bay 3 times. It's located next to the drawbridge so you can watch the gigantic yachts and sailboats come through. Very casual and reasonably priced food, plus the help is a lot of fun. We took taxis $12 or you can take city bus.We took a tour of the island (booked thru Nexus in the lobby) Francisco, our driver was super knowledgeable an we made a lot of interesting stops Philipsburg, market place, salt ponds and of course nude beach on French side. Tour was a little pricey, but worth it.We had a lot of laughs at the pool bar at Sonesta Maho, Pool and grounds are very well kept. The Volley ball net next to swim up bar is a little strange, but fun to watch.Over all we had an awesome visit to a beautiful island and a wonderful hotel.
