My 2 week stay at Sonesta was a very pleasing one. I would like to give recognition to the Animation Crew, especially Tatiana, who was not only an expectional performer, but hardworking, professional, and always looking to be helpful with a warm smile.
rooms not ready at checkin. rooms requested not what we got . our concerns were pretty much ignored staff over all rude and poorly trained to deal with guests hotel and grounds dated and in need of repair food quality overall was fair at best service in some instances non existent nightly entertainment was ok as for daily expeditions one choice of vendors and they misled on what we were getting hotel is pretty much located at landing strip at airport as all hotels in this area at night the strip gets very noisey well into the night and so on we not return even for free
Have stayed at many AI family resorts( iberostar maya ,iberostar lindo, iberostar DR , dreams Cabo )... this is the worst ai we have been to.Positives- for an ai the food is decent. Breakfast is ok.. good omelets. Pastries all fair at best . At buffet there is a small amount of fresh fruit only at breakfast and they are slow to replenish . Pizza was pretty good all things considering and palm grill dinner was good-nice beach although not enough chairs at ocean Negatives-Staff throughout just apathetic( except Bettina at palms grill lunch ...she was pleasant and personable and cared-we had 2 deluxe suites 358 378 ..not updated and very worn down. Took 3-4 calls to maintenance and they couldn't get ESPN channel working in our kids room( they did spend time trying at least).-we reserved a king suite and a double bed suite ... told we could only have 2 king suites .. it was 2 o clock , said we would wait for the 2 bed room ... "they are all taken".. no I'm sorry etc... par for the course. Room was very dated , window of room 378 looked out onto filthy outer area - ocean attendants start cleaning up at 4 and will take the furniture out from under you literally .. I believe the ocean lounges are locked up at 5-gym, old with me minimal equipment .. only one treadmill was working with a line to use it! Went to gym each day without success - can wait awhile for drinks , bartenders in lobby by small studio seemed to be the best- towel hut , every time I went to get towels they were away .. one afternoon my son went to get a towel and the idiot guy puts his hand by his own neck as I guess he was trying to say towels are cut off .... dumb gesture by the towel guy and doesn't waste his voice to say a word .Par for the courseWon't be back ... ever
I read some awful reviews as well as amazing once... i have to say that my experience was AMAZING!!!!If you want to avoid disappointments organize yourself at the time of check-in;Book your dinners (The Point and The Lava restaurants require reservation);Check the daily activities on the board located by the door on the way out to the pool;Noticed that some days the towels run out so on your way to breakfast every morning get your towels ( you get towel card per person; don't lose the card or you will have to pay $15 American dollars at check out);I did the Mini Cooper tour to Saint Barths offered by Nexus; it was an unforgettable tour (Yoan the tour guide is AMAZING);You have to be responsible for you own trip and make the best of it. Don't hesitate asking questions; if you offer a smile you get the best service (common sense).Remember when you arrive to Saint. Maarten island switch to "island mode".Hertz at the hotel DOESN'T have the most friendly service :(! It is just convenient (if you can rent from a different company will be better)
The resort is very well located, in Maho Village with several restaurants, boutiques, and nightclubs nearby. The big thing that you need to know, is that if you don't specifically book "ocean view", or "pool view", you end up with "sewage view & smell". We booked a superior room, and ended up overlooking the raw sewage processing tanks. (Room 541). We were unable to use our balcony, and had to keep the curtains drawn to reduce the offensive odour in our room. Every time we entered the room, we sprayed perfume just to mask the smell. Although we complained to the front desk immediately, and offered to pay more for an upgrade, we only got moved on day 5 of our 7 day holiday. Other than the terrible room, the resort is fine. Very nice beach, great pool. There's even a little water park for young kids. Our best meal was at Palm Grill where they brought us seared steaks on a 400 degree stone slab. We then cooked our own steaks until they were perfect. Fun, but not for young kids. Daily housekeeping staff was lovely..
