Very recently I spent a very special friend to Serenity Spa, and let me tell you the experience was mind blowing. Malissa the receptionist provided all the accurate and top of the line information. Her treatments were excicuted by Raquel and Gabi who made this first time experience very fun and relaxing. She had such a fantastic time she can't wait to go back. Jardin the spa manager has outstanding skills at making things happen. She made sure my friend got exactly what I want and even made it her business to come in on her off day to make sure she was taken cared of in the best way. The team at Serenity Spa are out of this world I would without a single doubt in my mind work with them again.
We just got back from our second trip to the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort. The staff are excellent. Anna was very helpful and maintenance worker Aleck was very friendly. The resort and grounds are very well maintained with many excellent dinning choices. We are already looking forward to a return trip in the future.
Stayed here last week on vacation - it was fine - not sure what all the bad reviews are about - food and drinks were good - they did run sometimes but it's an island and a different country - go with the flow - if you want five star pay for it - the beds were comfy and the whole place was very clean!! Did not have a problem with the staff - treat people how you want to be treated - just sayin!
This is our 6th visit to the Sonesta. Two years ago when the resort was introducing the OceanPoint things were not so great for the Maho guests. We were pleasantly surprised with the improvements made since then.Check In: Yes a cold towel and a glass of punch was a nice touch. Got a room facing Mullet with 2 double beds after asking for king bed. On Tues Cedric from the front desk approached us and upgraded us to an ocean view renovated room which was very nice. In future though we would never pay the extra $ for that room!Staff: We thought the staff were great this time around, yes we understand the reviews where staff are criticized but we saw for the most part happy faces. Cheryl provided us with a warm welcome back hug and of course great cocktails when we were at the Point Bar. Cedric went out of his way as mentioned above. Sharon had a beautiful smile every morning at the Palm Grill. Linette who kept are room tidy was very kind as well.Food: After reading countless reviews about booking for the a la carts we were happy to be informed that they had changed to first come first serve. This worked out fine for us, we got into the Point one night with no wait, same for one night at the Palm Grill and the Ascot. We did wait 20 minutes the next time we went to the Point. All meals were fine., Yes the pizza is a must. Having the breakfast buffet avail at the Palm Grill is quite nice as it is less busy if you don't mind having no toaster! Drinks were good and we did not wait too long for service. The bar area at the Point Rest is much improved with seating to watch the nightly entertainment.Entertainment: The Sonesta never had put much effort into this area, this year was different. They had nightly entertainment at the Point Bar ranging from a couple guys playing steel drums to 3-4 piece bands. They just need to update their daily boards to indicate such. We used to enjoy going to Cheri's across the street but the show just isn't the same as the lead show stopper quit. It never looked busy all week.Lobby Bar: Biggest disappointment by far. They have added more slot machines even though there is a full casino steps away. Very little seating for when they have the karaoke. The Lobby seating is awful as well, cheap, dirty cushions is what you see when you first arrive, what a great first impression!Pool: The resort was the busiest we had ever seen it. To find chairs at the pool is difficult if you haven't set out any early in the morning. The chairs at the pool are very uncomfortable and the chairs at the beach are very old.Beach: Not the most ideal for swimming but as always we enjoyed the planes and watching from the Boat Bar. We did go to Mullet Bay two days but it was rough there as well but still worth the $15 for chairs and umbrella as it is one of the prettiest beaches around.Sonesta Great Bay: We took a taxi there one day $20 + tip. The beach sand is very coarse and the water has a drop only a few steps in. Not ideal for swimming. The infinity pool is very nice and the food is the same as the Maho. It is adult only if that suits you but we prefer the Maho.Shopping: There are fewer shops in the Maho area but it's still nice walking around after dinner. We did go into town one day on local bus $2.00 each way. There is lots of great shopping and restaurants to stop at for lunch. We got a great deal through Sunwing for this property this trip, will be interesting to see what happens with the cost since making these improvements. We would not hesitate to return or to recommend to othersHappy Travels
The hotel is in convenient location and very close to the airport. We met a wonderful worker name Pauline. She went over and beyond every time we saw her during meal time. There were just a few things that could have been better. Due to the property being under construction there should have been more access to the restaurants. The resort was connected to an all adult resort and access to it was limited. When we made a reservation at a reservation only restaurant there wasn't enough food to my three friends and myself. They weren't forth coming with it either, the server wasn't aware of what food wasn't available anymore.
