Nice property, if you want to be secluded.

My wife and I stayed her in April 2016 as part of a work vacation with fellow co-workers. Out room was large, clean, and comfortable with a great view. On site food was good (but expensive). The beach and pool were great and the staff was awesome.My only knock on this resort is that it is a bit in the middle of no where. If you want to kick back at a resort where you never have to leave, this could be a great option for you. There is one area nearby with 2-3 restaurants and a little store (Mr. Busby's was great) - otherwise, you are an expensive cab ride from anywhere of note on the island.If you're going to stay here and you do want to see the island, make sure you rent a car - it will be much cheaper to get around in the long run.

Solo visit

The room: basically clean and basically well appointed. No better than the Extended Stay hotel at the Newark airport. Nothing remarkable other than the leather chairs, which were nice.I did not like the location--once at the resort, walking to a market for fruit or other incidentals is not an option. There is very little within walking or even jogging distance, so one is forced to shop and eat at the resort. Everything is brutally priced, except the rum (which was good). Wallet (or charges to your room) comes out every five minutes. They keep track of the pool towels for charges to the room.Westin even charges via credit card to use the house "Business Center" printer. I had two pages to print, and the first time the printer did not even work.I would've expected a "class" resort to at least have shuttle waiting at the airport to take us, but I took a $30 taxi ride instead, with a family of four (each of whom was charged $30). Maybe make a shuttle run to Orient Beach or Grand Case daily so the visitors can get around.Regarding the location: nothing special. Sure, it's nice view, looking out at the ocean... but that's the case in a thousand other locations.My recommendation is to stay at a boutique hotel (I had tried but could not get reservations due to short notice)...someplace closer to one of the town centers.If you really do not to ever leave the resort, and to just enjoy the fun and sun, then I believe you are better off to go to one of the all-inclusive resorts in DR or elsewhere.If you really like pooping out $40 or more per meal, or having EVERYTHING charged to your room, then maybe this place is for you. I won't be back.

Acceptable lodging, nice pool, below average food and service

Upon arriving, my husband and I were a little worried about what we were in for. The lobby of the hotel really needs some updating and the main hotel bathroom is unisex with one stall and one urinal which is not private. The rooms are also in need of some updating, and the food is really hit or miss at any of the restaurants or for room service. The saving grace of the hotel is that the pool is lovely and so is the beach. While this beach is not calm due to winds and reef, the beach is very clean and sand is great. We did find the staff to be really kind and courteous. The special events that the hotel had during the week were also nice, including live music at the pool. Although we were not really thrilled with the hotel due to decor and food, we would stay there again as we liked the location (close to French border and not too far from Grand-Case) and we found the pool to be really well-kept and pleasant.

If mediocre is important to you.....

Old, predictable, North American food from a can or bottle, pealing paint, ancient bathrooms, "cheese and crackers" in the form of a bag of something so not that....I can not comprehend the love for this place. As a long term SPG platinum member, I stay in lots of Westin properties worldwide. The upgrade they said I had been granted was...well...the room I had booked and paid for. I suppose some vacationers enjoy "traditional" Caesar with bottled sauce or paper thin bacon or metallic tasting farmed salmon or other generic American food. I don't. This is bland resort for people who don't really like leaving home. It is 100% Americanized garbage two price points(Aurp and Ocean)! The dead, but friendly casino was meh. The staff were friendly and efficient throughout our short stay. Can't recommend this or food. If this is what you money and stay home. The idiotic time share sales scammers were alive and well. Who is stupid enough to buy these things? St Bart' we come.

Hidden Gem

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Westin Dawn Beach when I attended a medical conference. The rooms are nicely appointed and clean. The decor is modern. The staff are very pleasant and welcoming. The manager at Ocean, Kevin, was AWESOME!!! he worked tirelessly to make sure every person in the restaurant had everything they needed, & if you didn't have it, he made sure you got it. Vishal, one of our waiters was always very sweet and kind. Jordaine, one of the front desk staff was also WONDERFUL! He recommended two really good restaurants ( melange & the Hollande House) and was great about making sure little missing odds & ends that we needed were supplied (extra towels, slippers, etc). The staff is nice. Service is slow, but this is not unusual in the Caribbean. The beach is nice. The pool could be better maintained. They could also use more of an an activities team since there's not much going on around the pool during the day or in the afternoon/evening. The hotel is off the beaten path so if you're looking for somewhere downtown or accessible to other places this isn't it. BUT, if you don't mind a quick cab ride it's a nice place to stay!
