Met by the hotel staff, Sandy @ the front desk in particular made my stay quite enjoyable from the time I arrived. The staff in general made me feel welcome & comfortable.The food was delicious @ both the Ocean & Aura restaurants and the servers and manager were very attentive. Special thanks to Kevin, Vishal, Lili and Elsie.Poolside, Lynette, the property manager, also took the time to have a nice conversation with me and offered her assistance, if needed.Even the hotel tour manager took the time to check on my tour p/u time booked via SST.I had a wonderful, relaxing and enjoyable stay.
After missing our cruise ship in FL due to fight issues, we flew to St. Maarten and booked this hotel so we could meet our cruise ship when it reached this port. Nadine at the Front Desk was amazing - so helpful and kind. I believe her badge said "trainee" - if so, her customer service skills are top notch. We really appreciated her efforts to get us a larger balcony facing the ocean (we didn't ask, but were somewhat disappointed in our original room) and she even followed up to see how we were enjoying our stay. #1278 has a lovely balcony facing the ocean - who doesn't love the sound of the surf?!Since we were only here for 2 nights, we didn't experience any of the restaurants; however, we really enjoyed the pool bar and had a tasty chicken quesadilla wth our beverages. The casino may get crowded during high tourist season, but while we were there it was very dead - although there were many slot machines, they seemed to be pretty old. The beach was quite clean during our visit, and we definitely enjoyed the resort (for a 3 floor property, the elevators are very spread out) - very happy they sold Haagen-Das ice cream in the gift shop!Due to our limited stay, we asked the concierge to find us a half day excursion on short notice. She got us a great snorkeling tour with Captain Allan that we really enjoyed. As SPG members, we try and stay at Westin properties whenever possible - we loved it here and will definitely return.
The Westin is pretty far away from ANYTHING else, so if you are planning on staying here, get a rental car. The beach is very nice if the wind isn't too strong. If there are strong easterly winds, the beach gets filled with Sargasso weed that washing ashore. The rooms are very nice and the grounds are wonderful. It was a great place to start/end our sailing Charter.
Unfortunately, the beach was unswimable. The location is so far out it cost $60 plus for taxis. There are three restaurants which were just okay. Nothing special. Really a good place for families, with many activities aimed at kids.St. Maarten really was like a Disney Caribbean experience...no culture. The French side - on the Caribbean Sea was beautiful. Wish we had stayed somewhere there.Staff of the Westin was not helpful. I felt that they really did not wish to help, or they would say they didn't know. Activities were not offered openly. Only one book to look at and there was not discussion about options. If we asked about a particular activity, they did not give the information for that activity and others that may be of interest. They focused only on what we mentioned not what was available.Many activities required payment in cash. So between taxis and activities you need a lot of cash.
We are a family of 5 with 3 teen daughters and just returned from our stay at the Westin. We enjoyed it very much. Many resorts we have visited are so crowded you have to fight to get a chair by the pool or by the beach or even a crowded pool. We did not have to worry about any of that at the Westin and made our time there so enjoyable. Yes it is away from all the hustle and bustle but we actually enjoyed it. The employees ARE SO INCREDIBLE NICE AND HELPFUL. For my daughters birthday, they brought her a cake and sang at lunch, had a cake sent to our room. I just can't say enough about every single employee that helped us. We all agreed if we went back to St. Maarten - we would definitely stay at the Westin.
