Lovely hotel in an amazing location. I would recommend staying here for short trips as the hotel is located in the heart of Ramblas. The station is situated right outside 'catalunya' . The lady on reception was very welcoming and we were surprised with a bottle of champagne and chocolates as it was my boyfriends birthday. The room was clean and stylish!
Bearing in mind that there is a lot more to Barcelona than La Rambla, this is still a perfect location. If you are in need to a great crowd of tourists, pickpockets and trinket-stalls, you can be on La Rambla in the time it takes you to walk downstairs, but if you'd like to see the rest of the Gothic Quarter, that is just as close in the other direction, as the entrance to this hotel is on an alleyway that runs between La Rambla and a much quieter square. The hotel is steps from a metro station. The apartment is fairly spacious, with only just adequate storage space. I would have preferred more drawers into which I could have unpacked, rather than having my stuff sitting around on surfaces. The bathroom was good, with pretty good hot water, that tended to fluctuate a bit if someone else was showering at the same time as you.We were rather disappointed by the refusal of management to give us more than two tiny sachets of milk for our coffee, though. If we've paid for three nights, surely we should get three night's worth of supplies? Saying the milk was a "welcome" just doesn't cut it, and seems very mean. There is a good laundry facility in the basement of the building, which is very useful if you're on the road.
My apologies for my late review but I stayed in this hotel in October 2015 and it was very good. Contemporary furniture with a clean bathroom coupled with an amazing view of Las Ramblas. I would definitely return to this hotel. Don't forget to check out the roof top- Amazing views up there as well and by the way...Service is exceptional!!! I asked my then girl friend to marry me while on this trip!
This was my second stay in this property, since the first time they have made some renovations and with them still on going, experienced brown water in taps (did run clear after a minute) and experienced a bit of noise, and building dust is still settling. I'm sure once complete everything will be good again. Excellent location on Las Ramblas. Breakfast is expensive for a continental offering so used the coffee shop a few doors up. Attend an annual event in Barca so likely to return.
Just arrived from Barcelona where we spent our Christmas. I should say that we were satisfied with the overall experience and were glad that we found this little gem. Price-wise compared to other hotels in the same location, Citadines is priced reasonably. Citadines is at the heart of La Rambla in a very busy street and just across the Le Meridien hotel. The aparthotel is just few minutes on all modes of transportation be it the Metro ( Liseo and Plaza Catalunya stop) , bus and taxi. Shops, market, restaurants and pharmacy are a stone throw away. So, if you want a quiet atmosphere or isolated place, then this may not be the place for you. But if you want to see the local culture first hand and accessibility to various sites , the location of Citadines can't be beat. It has 24 hours guard on duty so security is not an issue. The reception is also on the 1st floor so before anyone can go to ones room, they need to pass the guard on duty and pass the reception area. We had an early morning flight and arrived at the hotel around 10AM. We intended to just leave our luggage and just come back as we know that check-in time won't be until 2pm but the lad at the reception had kindly checked on the room and upon knowing that it was already ready, he had let us to checked-in early. We stayed for 4 nights in a 1BR apartment on the 5th floor which has a small balcony that overlooks some of the other balconies of nearby hotels. I believe that we have stayed in one of the newly renovated room. The room itself is of decent size for a family of 4. My 2 teens slept on the sofa bed which were split into 2 singles whilst the main bedroom has king size bed. The room has iron and ironing board and a safety deposit box. The toilet is of good size with two sinks and also very clean. It also comes with complete supplies with extra toilet rolls and bath mats. As the policy for cleaning is every 5days, you will need to pay extra if you want it to be cleaned for 25 Euros. There's a dining table big enough for 4 people to sit and have meal comfortably. As to the mini kitchen there were ample crockeries but quite limited cuttleries. The kitchen is well equipped with pots and pan to cook basic meals. It has microwave/griller, toaster, dishwasher, 2 ring hobs and tea/coffee kettle. One of the reviewer has mentioned about the limited coffee and teas that they provide. You can actually ask for more in the reception area. During our stay, we ran out of dishwashing tablets and toilet rolls and we only went to reception to ask and they happily provided the stock that we need. There are also a tea/coffee facility and water station in the lounge which are open to hotel guests. The Solarium (sun deck) at the roof top is a bonus that provides a good view of Barcelona. The fence though is quite high and somehow obstructs the view. It would have been nice if this can be made of glass so guests can enjoy the full view of Barcelona. As to breakfast , I can't comment on the quality as we didn't get the chance to try it but they charge 12 euros for the breakfast. There were loads of good restaurants and coffee shops outside to have breakfast. Also, Starbucks is just a few steps away from the hotel. If you are a practising Catholic like us, you might be interested to know that there are several churches around the area. We have attended the Christmas mass at the Cathedral de Barcelona, just 5 minute walk from Citadines. If you walk a bit further down-- towards the end of La Rambla is the very famous floating mall, Maremagnum which is a very good place to have a meal and just sit whilst enjoying the view of the marina. It is also note worthy to say that my daughter has sprained her ankle whilst watching one of the street performances along La Rambla (in-front of the hotel) when she missed a step on the pavement. But because the pharmacy was so close, we have managed to provide first aid to minimise the ankle from swelling. The pharmacists were all knowledgeable and has provided some good tips. Our experiences of Barcelona has been easy as we were based in a location that is so accessible. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
