Modern hotel, slightly soulless and away from the town, but close to the marina. Good views, especially from the upper floors. Busy pool and bar. Good breakfast selection. Possibly doesn't do the best job of advertising the facilities on offer.
My partner and I recently stayed at the Melia Sitges for a 3 night post-cruise stay. Sadly we were disappointed: while this hotel is an upgrade from most European holiday hotels it misses the mark as a true luxury hotel. The hotel itself is rather nice: the rooms are well equipped if a bit small, the staff tries its best and the internet service was excellent. But that is where the four star luxury ends. There are many issues: English language television stations are extremely limited, a 9 euro charge to use the gym or sauna at a four star hotel in 2017 is outrageous (yes, I know that the gym facility is leased to a third party but the hotel can make some type of arrangement with the operator for its guest), the pool area is small with a lounge chairs placed on a very poorly maintained (think muddy) lawn - and the lounge chairs themselves are the plastic type that you see at the garden center on sale for $25.00 each, additionally, the pads on the chairs are thin, dirty and stained, certainly not what you expect at a luxury hotel. And, lets talk about towels....only one per person and you must have a towel pass to get a towel...really? Sounds like a camp to me. Finally, the pool does not open until 1100AM; not sure why, so if you want to take a quick swim to start your day, forget it. Curiously, while the pool does not open until 1100AM, guests start reserving lounge chairs at 800AM. Breakfast offerings were very good with lots of choice, but on two out of three mornings during our stay most plates on the buffet were empty, some items that should be warm were ice cold, and the staff seemed to struggle keeping up with demand and keeping the buffet tables well stocked....shame. Nothing is less appetizing than picked over buffet tables. We also had one lunch at the hotel terrace and that was very good.Lastly, the biggest problem with the Melia, in our opinion, is its location. Its a hilly 20 to 25 minute walk into Sitges. The walk is pleasant but not something that you really want to do roundtrip two times per day; taxis are difficult to find in Sitges during busy periods (on one occasion, we asked the hotel to call a taxi for us and we waited 45 minutes and the taxi still did not show up.....ridiculous) so there is little choice other than walking. The hotel really should offer a shuttle service into town on a regular basis and into the evening hours, that what most hotels do when they are not conveniently located. And, a public transit bus is not an acceptable alternative in a hotel that holds itself out to be a luxury hotel. Finally, while the beach is nearby, note that the hotel is in a residential area with no shops or restaurants except for a supermarket that is about a 7 minute walk from the hotel.....so you must go into town for everything. We paid about Euro 250.00 per night to stay at the Melia (deluxe room with breakfast); at that price point, the hotel should offer much better services and amenities.
Been there in winter when Sitges is also lovely. The hotel is well maintained, close to the beach and a stone's throw away from the village. Good front office staff and spacious rooms. F&B staff was not as great but the breakfast was amazing despite some flaws in the service. The hotel is a bit too conference-oriented for my personal taste but overall was a nice stay.Wierd wellness area (not worth it) and gym closed outside SPA opening times (which is a pity).
The hotel is about 30 minutes from Barcelona airport. Very nice rooms with a view and good conference facilities. Beach is 10 minutes walk, Sitges downtown 15-20. I would recommend a room on a higher floor seawards, due to the better view!
The good:The hotel staff seems really helpful, the rooms are very nice and the sea views spectacular. The breakfast buffet was just wonderful! Although the 10:30am end on weekdays is a bit early - weekends it goes to 11am - I'm on vacation and would prefer to sleep in a bit When things aren't quite right I feel that management goes out of their way to make it right. In general I really like this hotel a lot. I would of rated this 5 stars if not for the smoking situation. The not so good:There a beautiful outdoor seating area for breakfast but couldn't enjoy it because of the amount of cigarette smoke from surrounding tables. It seems the hotel encourages cigarette smoking by placing ashtrays on all outdoor tables. The pool is also very nice but you just can't escape the smell of smoke. It's 2017 and the dangers of second hand smoke is well known. Time to setup exterior non smoking areas Melia!Even sitting on the balcony. Just my luck but due to the smell of cigarettes I had to leave the balcony earlier than I wanted to. The hotel started a policy to ask you to pay in full at checkin. They didn't do this for last 2 years. I find this really odd. They have your credit card number. Why demand to prepay on a flexible non restricted rate. In general the people staffing the pool are great but the female this morning was horrible. Demanded a second "towel card" and seemed kind of rude - I only had one. Had to go to the front desk to get another. Unneeded hassle. It's a 4 star hotel. Act like it!
