Good transport, metro supermarket and restaurants. Good selections for breakfast, in a quite area within walking distance to Real Palace and Plaza Mayor. Rooms good size with comfortable pillows.Value for a roof top terrace with free soft drinks and coffee machine.
had a great weekend in madrid stayed at the mercure hotel, nice freindly staff great location to access of all the entertainment and night life.rooms was of good size bed was a little too hard for me but everyone else said it was ok for them. the area was fairly quite with little traffic
We stayed in the hotel for three nights in October . We were checked in by some very helpful staff , as we were early our room wasn't ready but after a short wait we were given our keys. Our room was on the fifth floor which is easily accessed by a lift in the reception area . The room was very clean if a little dated as already stated in previous posts. We even had a balcony which looked down on the street below. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and were only to happy to answer the typical tourist questions. The hotel has a great location for exploring Madrid by foot. The royal palace is a ten minute walk from the hotel, Gran via is also close by as are Plaza Major. The hotel is also close by a number of metro stops to make the whole of Madrid easily accessible. If we return to Madrid I will look to stay here again.
So, booked this Hotel after much checking about. Wanted to be fairly close to stuff without walking straight out onto the Gran Via.Funny when the taxi pulled up and realised me and my friends had stopped here 13 years ago when it was the Sofitel. The rooms are looking dated, but as has been stated it is due a refurb.Arrived before check in time, but this wasnt an issue and were booked in quickly by English speaking people on reception. We were offered a map and guidance on where to go etc. However this was declined as been before.Very comfortable beds with feather toppers. Free safety deposit and a fridge, which does have drinks in, but at €2,50 they are quite pricey.Had a kettle in the room with coffee and tea, but only 2 milks. Bought a litre of milk from supermarket (out of hotel. Turn right then right again) and kept this in the fridge with no issue.Plenty of good places to eat very close to the hotel as breakfast is a little pricey. Gran Via is just through the little square and across the Plaza de Espana. A walk up here takes you into the city centre. Do recommend a map if its your first time in Madrid. Plenty of things to see and loads of places to eat or grab a drink, either alcoholic or not.Overall a great base for exploring Madrid without being in th middle of the hustle and bussle
The hotel was, as the name implies, close to the Plaza De Espana, also Gran Via (the main shopping street) and also close to the Royal Palace amongst other things. The hotel reception staff were helpful and could speak good English. The hotel itself is fairly small, with a reception area which runs into a small breakfast area on the ground floor. The style of the hotel is very traditional some might say old fashioned, our rooms were a decent size (both large doubles) and were well appointed and clean. The bathroom was like something from the 1980s but perfectly functional. So for a reasonably priced centrally located hotel which is just somewhere to sleep then this does the job.
