Fab hotel in latina area of madrid...10 mins walk from all the nightlife and tapas bars and 15 mins from the vincente calderon..Our room was perfect with views of bars and shops from balcony.Breakfast was just what was required to start the day and hotel staff all very helpfull...will return..
Good was: - location not far from La Latina, Plaza Mayor, Palacio Real- friendly staff- very clean- decent size of the rooms (stayed in a triple room by myself with 3 people it probably would have been a bit too small)- laptop safe- water bottles on arrival day-snack bar/cafeteria downstairs- free good Wifi- little desk and suitcase bench- air con and heating obviously workingPoor was: - The doors are old school hotel doors like in a motel with almost see through gaps. The walls are so thin that you can hear people in the next room or in a room above you talking or sneezing not mentioning the hairdryer and the vaccum cleaning starting in the early morning. People were standing in the hallway talking until past midnight! I felt like in a hostel!- breakfast room the same. Due its hight and size it was super noisy and uncomfy.- breakfast had a lot of choices but was of mediocre or even poor quality, coffee from automat and the juice almost not drinkable. The toaster was a joke. - the staff at breakfast consisted of 2 people, one who had to refill and bring eggs and bacon etc. and one who had to clean the tables. The latter although working consistently and fast did not manage to get the tables cleaned in time.- lack of atmosphere in the room, although nice picture above the bed and the room had been painted recently, the bed constuction was one of the cheaper kind, matress was ok. The dark veneered furniture had a lot of dents that gave the room a bit of a rundown apparence. If the hotel could do something about the noise in the hallways and rooms (guess it would need carpets in the rooms or underneath the laminate a noise cancelling insulation) and do something about the doors and the noise in the breakfast room and especially in the hallways it would give the hotel a decent character. Like this it is more like a hostel. A new toaster at breakfast would be good as well.I would recommend this hotel only for large groups of age 14-28. Because of the noise no one older would like to stay here for the night. For 130Euros per night you can find very decent hotels in Madrid some maybe not super central but within 20min per bus or train.
My daughter and I stayed in this hotel for a weekend visit to Madrid. The rooms were small but modern and clean. The bathroom had a very good shower and was a reasonable size. The reception area was large and airy and the staff were pleasant and helpful. The roof top area was lovely. A great view and nice outdoor furniture. We did not use the small pool but it was a lovely space. Breakfast was included and was fine. Plentiful amount of food and the fresh fruit was delicious. The location was very good. Close to the metro and about a 10minute walk from Plaza Major. I would recommend this hotel as we had an enjoyable stay.
We stayed in the hotel Ganivet whilst visiting our daughter. The room was a fairly good size, but was let down by the lack of any view. The only thing we could see was the opposite internal wall of the hotel and windows of the facing rooms. It was difficult to see the sky! To ensure privacy when changing etc, the curtains needed to be closed. Otherwise the room was nice and quiet (except for the noisy cleaners outside our door at 8am). The room was cleaned to a good standard and nice provisions in the room - shower cap etc. Breakfast was plentiful and what you would expect in a good European hotel. The highlight really was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. There are no tea & coffee facilities in the room (as is common in European hotels), but each evening the bar staff were happy to provide a pot of hot water for our tea! The hotel is in a great location for exploring Madrid, with a metro station just down the road. We walked almost everywhere, and we're able to get to the main sights within about 20 mins. Of course, there is the delightful rooftop pool with great views over the city. Overall we enjoyed our stay and loved Madrid, just a couple of things I've mentioned that let the hotel down.
The hotel staff did not make up the room properly - towels were not folded well, and we didn't get bottled water. The jacuzzi wasn't a jacuzzi at all, it was a tiny pool but you can't swim because of it's size. the water was not heated and there weren't bubbles.
