Petit Palace Posada Del Peine
- What's Included
Really nice hotel. Great for families! Even at breakfast, they have special plates for kids. Breakfast includes unlimited champagne and OJ - great for mimosas. Everything from churros to eggs. Hotel is in a great location. Would definitely recommend.
The location of the hotel is excellent and we quite liked the "rustic" lobby that others have had issues with. Main reason for liking it though was the Front-of-House Manager, Esther. From arrival to check out and including a small issue we had with the air-conditioning, Esther remained friendly, polite, humorous, helpful and kind. She is a credit to the hotel. Our second floor room was a good size, though I imagine the frosted-glass en-suite bathroom was a recent addition. I suppose it is a modern approach, but a bit out of keeping with this traditional hotel. Nice shower but had trouble with the strange tap to the side of the rectangular sink. The noise from outside can be intrusive and, having read various other reviews that comment on this, I don't think it can be excused with a "what can you do when you have a central location". I think it is a question of better glazing required! The air-con issue I mention above was that the hotel had switched to "heat" mode, which meant we could not get colder air as that is controlled centrally, despite the switch on the wall in your room. So you can control heat in the colder months and coolness in the hotter months but cannot switch between the extremes, should you want to. Unfortunately we arrived as an unexpected warm spell hit Madrid and I need coolness most of the time. The hotel management sorted this issue out to our satisfaction (Esther helped as you would expect) and our friends didn't experience the same issue. So, I guess it's me and personal preference, but it was not something I expected and is something to just be aware of.We didn't have breakfast but our friends enjoyed it, but we all missed a bar to meet up in.All in all, this hotel suited us well for our 2 night break and I would recommend it to friends, with just the odd reservation. Thanks Esther for all your help and also Chema for the aftercare.
We stayed overnight while connecting through Madrid to USA. We picked the hotel because of its great location downtown. We had two family rooms because we had 8 people. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast had lots of options and was yummy.Pros:- Location downtown during The holidays. Lots to walk and see. - Modern decor and cleanliness- Good breakfast spread with lots of options. - Friendly staff that was helpful and spoke English. - Fancy shower with good water pressure and lots of sprayers- Teddy bears for our 4 kids. - Bunk beds in room for kids. - TV with English audio option for kids- Old building with lots of history Cons:- Toilet didn't work right in one room, other room worked great - One room smelled like cigarette smoke, the other was fine. When we visit Madrid again, we will consider this hotel.
Hotel is centrally located literally steps next to Plaza Mayor, extremely close to Puerta del Sol and walking distance to Palace. There a lot of restaurants close by. Taxi cannot come to hotel but will drop you close by. Front desk is extremely helpful and polite. It is supposed to be oldest hotel in Spain(we saw many walking tours stop here) but room was very modern and comfortable.Hotel offers free bikes and free walking tour which we were unable to take advantage of. They also had a 5 Euro per day wallet wifi which we would have definitely picked if we were there for longer. Hotel not only checked us in early, they also let us store our bags after we checked out which was extremely helpful. We will definitely stay here if we visit Madrid again. Note: 1) It takes ~8E to get to hotel to/from train station. 2) Hotel is not close to Museums or train station and it is quite a walk from here to Atocha around 25 minutes. Recommend taking metro from Sol station to get to Atocha Renfe and walk to museums from there. 3) No latch on bathroom door and the bathroom wall is frosted. May not work for some. 4) Laundrette is ~15 min walk from hotel. Take Calle de la bosla ==> It becomes Calle de las huertas ==> Take left on Calle de leon and laundry will be on left. If you reached calle de prado you have come too far. They charge 9E for wash , dry and fold.Note to hotel management: Your hotel lobby leaves much to be desired and should be updated just like rooms are. We actually got scared when we saw lobby but once we saw room we were delighted. It was such a contrast.
Centrally located near Plaza Mayor yet on a quaint side street so it was peaceful. The room was large and everything very clean and modern. The staff was the best part, so helpful and welcoming. They helped us print train tickets (even jumped on the phone with the train company for us), book a good flamenco show and pointed us to other good places. Wifi actually worked (not always a guaranteed amenity). Didn't take advantage of the bike or free tours but wish we would have. The best hotel stay we had in Spain.
