Westin Palace Madrid
- What's Included
We visited this hotel at the end of a group land tour. The staff was welcoming and very helpful. Although others have lamented the lack of a pool, the breakfast made up for that for my daughter and me. There are so many places to see and do in Madrid that we did not need a pool as much as we needed a substantial breakfast. This hotel is located very near the Prado and Thyssen-Bornemisza Museums, for instance. Our room was spacious and the bathroom was large and the amenities were first class.
For the last 20+ years I have traveled to Madrid, both for business and pleasure, and to visit relatives. The Westin Palace in Madrid, at Plaza de las Cortes, imhas always been my "go to" hôtel. As a Starwood Preferred member, I have had the pleasure of staying at this property both as a paying customer and using points. Regardless of how you manage your stay, the Westin Palace service is, always impeccable. First, the location: literally a few steps, from the largest and most important museums in Madrid (Thyssen Bornemisza, El Prado and even the Reina Sofía also pretty close) is ideally suited for a cultural experience enhanced by the première art work collections in Madrid, Spain and the world. Also close is the main Madrid train station (Atocha) , making this hotel also a good "operations center" for a multiple city itinerary. Various metro stations are also within walking distance (Atocha, Banco de España, etc) as well as a big hub for the Madrid bus network (next to Cibeles Plaza). Now, the rooms: the Westin Palace has every type of room available, from tiny but comfortable ones to full suites, many with period antiques (the hotel is a fin de siècle luxury property). The impressive lobby takes you to the salon de thé rotunda where every morning you can enjoy a most spectacular breakfast/brunch displays with fresh breads and pastries, fresh fruits, hot station with a variety of proteins and meats, eggs in every fashion, cheese and meats, freshly squeezed juices and smoothies... You can load up for the day and easily wait until the Spanish time for lunch (usually around 2:30pm) without missing a snack! There are so many services and amenities that would be impossible to touch upon all of them here. The bar on the left is intimate and luxurious at the same time, I love to wile away there at least one hour, after a busy day, running around Madrid with my cousins, and sipping my favorite drink, a Manhattan. Pricing of rooms can be on the high end, since this is indeed a luxury property, but I have found many specials and offers if I book my room through the Starwood website. The ambiance, situation of the hotel and fantastic service merits the high relationship between price and quality (or like Spaniards love to say "la relación calidad a precio") The front desk staff is attentive and helpful, but sometimes can be a little bit surly (Madrileños tend to be, like New Yorkers, a little bit impatient. I can say this because my roots are in Madrid, and I lived in New York City for years, so I am intimately familiar with both styles). If anyone (in general) in Madrid is a little bit curt, blame it on the temperament, and ignore it; they have hearts of gold, and they will always assist you! (of course, there is always Paloma at your service!) :) Because of these and many other reasons (I think this is the longest review I've ever written here) , I fully and without hesitation recommend the Westin Palace hotel for your next Madrid stay.
My wife and I stayed here for the entire time in Madrid. We were celebrating our 21st wedding anniversary, and were welcomed with a nice bottle of cava. The hotel has tons of history and is located in a great part of the city. Thank you, Miss Fuentes, for the outstanding service. When we return to Madrid, we will definitely stay here again.
I absolutely love the Westin Palace Madrid! I stayed in Madrid a few times, amounting to roughly one month in duration at the Westin and it was one of the best Westin experience's I've had. As an SPG member, I already have a love for their properties and frequent many. The breakfast layout is amazing, the rooms are spacious, the staff is extremely helpful and friendly, and overall it's a beautiful hotel and great location! I attempted to stay at a nearby hotel at one point that was just under half the cost (ME Madrid Reina Victoria) and it is a world of a difference - I highly recommend sticking with the Westin Palace Madrid. The rooms may be a bit more expensive than other local hotels but you absolutely get what you pay for!
We stayed here for two nights and the location is perfect if you are a arts lover - within 5mins walk among the so called "art museum triangle" and really convenient to take a break in between.Have to say the breakfast quality is so-so okay but lunch / dinner at the main restaurant is definitely an enjoyable experience, siting under the colourful mosaic roof with delicious tepas - what a perfect holiday!Staff is welcoming and efficient, especially after comparing with another 5 stars hotel Gran Melia Fenix we do appreciate it a lot... Photos showing the room, lunch we had at the main restaurant and a masterpiece we saw in Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum respectively. This is our wedding anniversary trip and after planning everything we found out a baby is coming - thanks for all the staff here for making it such a fantastic and memorable experience!
