I arrived early from the US and took the Airport Bus (E5) for the quick trip to this hotel. It is an easy walk from the 2nd stop (Cibeles) and I was warmly welcomed and given a nice room (#531) facing the inner courtyard. The room was large with a marble bath--while it would have been nice to have a view, I was paying a low rate and was only there for 1 night, so not a big deal. One minor complaint, is that there is no clock in the room, not on the nightstand nor on the tv, I did have a travel clock with me, so was able to set my alarm for my early departure the next day. (I tend not to want to rely on 'wake up calls'. The room contained a stocked mini fridge, but it did allow for my placing some items inside. As others have mentioned, the hotel is very luxurious and 'old worldly', but not stuffy. While I didn't eat in the restaurant, I did have a drink in the bar and found it very comfortable. The location couldn't be better, as others have mentioned it is across from the Prado and a short walk to the main Plaza's (Sol & Major) as well as within easy access of the Palace. The next morning (6am), it was a quick and safe 5 min walk to the airport bus stop for my return to MAD.
This hotel has s beautiful! I reserved it through American Express platinum card services. We were upgraded to a room with a view over the city center. Room was very well appointed and quiet. Very clean and traditionally decorated. Luxury, old world feel. Hotel service was top notch. Also felt that it was a great d value especially for a major city hotel.Amex offered us a complimentary meal in the hotel restaurant and the service and meal were 5 star!
Exceptional hotel. Great location near the Prado Museum, easy walking distance to numerous restaurants, across from the El Ritero Park. We were using Starwoods points so we were also upgraded to a lovely room. Not a single complaint about any of that. Where I felt the hotel fall down was in its nose-in-the-air approach. In my estimation a good hotel accommodates their clientele. This is, after all, the hospitality business. Either I am not their normal clientele or management has indoctrinated employees into greeting guests with a humorless, sober demeanor that is not appealing to me. This was true at check-in, at their in-house La Rotunda Restaurant where we would have had breakfast if we were shown a table before becoming annoyed and walking away and at their 1912 Museo Bar where we were served drinks but made to feel like we were interrupting their work as they busily filled orders for the restaurant. Maybe they are just short staffed but that did not appear to be the case at reception, at the restaurant or the bar. Don't let this review dissuade you from booking a reservation at this fine facility. Just know that if you are okay with white glove service with a frown or a look of consternation, this hotel will be fine.
Such a wonderful stay at this Westin in Madrid for 3 nights. From the moment you step in the front door, you get a lovely, luxurious feeling. The service was impeccable, The front desk staff speak English very well, so that was nice. Very attentive and kind. We wish we had booked a longer stay.La Rotunda is simply gorgeous with it's colorful stained glass dome. Again the service was outstanding. Our room was so lovely with a fantastic view of the fountain and such a comfortable bed and wonderful bathroom. True luxury! The location is perfect. Close to the train station, Prado museum, Real Jadin Botanico, Plaza Mayor, wonderful tapas bars and a pleasant walk to the Royal Palace. So many sites within walking distance. We really enjoyed our stay and can't wait to return. I would definitely recommend this lovely hotel.
Wow! Traveling through Madrid for a few days and stayed at this Westin which is gorgeous, the main spaces as well as the room. The center piece is the main dining room which has a spectacular stained glass ceiling. The service was immaculate and the breakfast was stupendous, cold and hot dishes that changed daily. The concierge was very helpful and friendly so were the front desk staff. Location was perfect for the Prado and Thyssen, nice walk to the Plaza Mayor, Santa Ana and other touristy places. Highly recommended.
