Westin Palace Madrid
- What's Included
We stayed in the Westin Palace for two days in May and found it not only to be a gorgeous sight itself but a convenient home base for exploring the city. Ten minutes from Plaza Mayor or El Retiro, five minutes from the Prado and the Botanical Gardens, we absolutely loved the location. The hotel itself is stunning -- a visit to the 1912 Bar and Museum and La Rotunda is a must! The luxury to price ratio is also very compelling -- although certainly not an inexpensive place to stay, I found it to be excellent value for the quality of the room, service, and amenities.
Easily reached from airport by express bus (5 € ) and 5mins walk. This hotel was ideally situated for walking to most of the museums and other sights.Being SPG gold members, we were given a recently refurbished room on the top floor, located on a quiet side of the hotel with a limited view over roof tops to hills in distance. Reasonable sized room with comfy king sized bed ,large desk, mini bar, safe, robes and slippers , but NO tea or coffee making facilities . We took our own travel kettle etc, but you could have one complimentary tea or coffee from room service per day. Bathroom with twin basins and over bath shower ,good selection of toiletriesVery impressive glass domed restraunt area where we celebrated a nice meal on my birthday. Breakfast was expensive about 30€ each, so we did not have, plenty of places nearby if needed. Staff on SPG desk very friendly and helpful. As a surprise my husband had mentioned to the hotel that it was our wedding anniversary, followed by my birthday the following day. The management kindly left a bottle of "fizz" on both days together with a small cake on my birthday all greatly appreciated.
This hotel was definitely among the best European hotels i'Ve stayed in. The moment you enter everything feels timeless and beautiful. I love how the rooms are a little bigger than those typical European hotels, the design is pretty much classic but somehow it feels brand new and very well kept. The breakfast was also one of the highlights, it has the best venue of all, everything was so grand and the service was quite on point, they have the most beautiful restaurant for just breakfast! Overall this hotel will always be ,y choice when in Madrid.
My husband and I recently spent 6 nights at The Westin Palace. We had a junior suite which had a bedroom and sitting/lounge area. The furnishings are all very grand but still comfortable. I loved that the toilet in the bathroom area had its own door much more practical when you are sharing a bathroom. We were on the second floor but the double glazed windows meant noise was not a problem. The king size bed was very comfortable. The hotel is ideally located to all 3 major museums and The Palace and the surrounding streets are full of restaurants. Everything you could want is within walking distance and the lovely little plazas you walk through constantly are a bonus. Warning though, the restaurants don't usually open til 8pm and generally people eat about 9.30pm this takes a bit of getting use to but the surrounding streets are safe and there is always people about very late at night.
We spent an enjoyable week here, and my review may be biased favorably because we splurged on a terrific executive suite.1. Location: Perfect for us. Short walks to Prado and Thyssen museums, botanical garden, and Palacio Linares. Longer walks or short cab rides to La Reina Sofia museum and Plaza Mayor. Dozens of tapas bars and restaurants nearby, and Starbucks around the corner.2. Food: We enjoyed our meals in La Rotonda - great service, very good food, expensive. Ate once in the Chinese restaurant - fine, but not great. We did not try the Sushi place.3. Accommodation: Our suite was large, comfortable, nicely decorated, and facing the Neptune Fountain with the Ritz behind it. We were lucky to be there during the San Isidro festival, so we watched the fireworks over Retiro Park from our living room.4. Service: Friendly, hospitable, and accommodating. The concierge made reservations for us at the Corral Moreria flamenco show and at Cafe Central for jazz, and sent someone to a pharmacy to get an ankle bandage for me when I had a fall. All in all a very pleasant stay, and one I heartily recommend.
