I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights mid-February with my 8 year old son . The hotel is in a great location right on the promenade . Although the staff at reception weren't rude we weren't made to feel particularly welcome at any point during our stay . The gentleman on reception was constantly taking other calls whilst we were checking in . We had room 1007 , which as others have commented is north facing and therefore in permanent darkness . However the room was very clean and had everything you needed ( except for a kettle!) . The welcome pack in the bathroom was nice and we had enough towels for two of us . On our final day there was a powercut which made things tricky , however the hotel dealt very well with it all and still served up breakfast and did their best . The building noise didn't bother us , nor spoil our trip . I would stay at this hotel again as it was clean , in a great location and not too expensive .
Cons : There was major building work going on, the wagons coming and going, the skips emptying rubble, their heavy duty drills going, angle grinders scraping against metal and shouty workmen outside the hotel. The noise ruined what was supposed to be a restful break. The balcony on our room number 2007 did not get a scrap of sunshine and was too cold to sit out. I had requested a no smoking room which we did, but our neighbours next door smoked so we still were subject to vile cigarette smoke. Why not have a totally no smoking hotel or at least assigned floors for the smokers?? The man at reception Paco was surly, slow and unhelpful. The young girl was helpful though Pros:The beds were nice and firm and the TV was good. Breakfast was excellent and the foyer was clean and welcoming. Towels large and fluffy.
Just returned today from don marco I will give you some advice DONT GO you have building work all around the hotel should have been closed with all the work being done even when you go out there is work going on in the shops all you here is banging and drilling it does get to you
Warning to north Americans: this is not the equivalent of a 4 star hotel from the Caribbean or Latin America. On that standard it is a 3 star at best. The most disappointing aspect of this hotel is the buffet. We had booked a 2 meal a day package (breakfast and lunch or dinner) and wish we hadn't. The food is of poor quality and often cold. The breakfast is pretty decent, the lunch very poor and dinner passable. The menu is also very repetitive.Staff is helpful and friendly, especially the waiting staff at the restaurant.Standard rooms are very small. I would avoid for a stay longer than a few days. The place is kept very clean (even if a section of the hotel was under renovation). This has nothing to do with the hotel but more with the town of Torremolinos. If you are traveling in the winter like we were (last week of January and 1st of February) be aware that near half the bars/restaurants/shops are closed at this time of year. It is pretty dead near the beach and not much better in town. It is also mainly visited by the elderly, so much so that we felt out of place (and we're in our mid 40's!). If I were to come back I would choose Malaga instead. It is much livelier, much more of a "European" feel with the classic architecture, the many small bistros, pubs and shops. Torremolinos feels more like a 70's cheesy beach town.
Stayed at the Sol Don Marco from the 16th January to 26th January 2017 it was our first time at the Don Marco we have stay at one of the other hotels on the complex. It was an enjoyable stay good food friendly staff comfortable room on the first floor we overlooked a patio area with small out door pool. The bathroom had separate shower and bath. Ample wardrobe and draw space comfortable bed, fridge and flat screen TV with a number of English Channels to choose from. The only concern I had was the buffet style restaurant do not have the hand sanitiser when entering the restaurant. The hotel is in an ideal position on a long promenade.
