Stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and was very impressed with it. Stayed in the Don marco but had use of the amenities in all three hotels as it is a complex. The Room was on the first floor overlooking the pool with a balcony which was nice. The room was modern and clean, we were able to leave the air con all day so it stayed nice and cool in the room. Reception weren't that friendly or helpful on arrival which was disappointing. We had breakfast each morning in the don't Pablo which was brilliant, the breakfast room was huge with an outdoor sitting area, there was a huge range of choice and attentive staff. The hot food wasn't that hot but there were two chefs one cooking fresh pancakes and one fried eggs and omelettes on request which were lovely but very popular. The hotel has many pools and sun loungers and not too busy throughout our stay. The location of the hotel was good, right on the beach front and about a 10 minute walk into town albeit up a lot of stairs. There are many touristy shops and restaurants in walking distance which was good. The train station has good links direct to the airport, malaga and Fuengirola. We went to aqualand in the town which was great fun. The hotel was full of older people so felt a little out of place being in our early 20s but guess this is due to it being out of season. There was entertainment each night in the rooftop bar, mainyou from, 10-11pm a range of acts none that brilliant but the motown singers were good. The bar was extremely busy and very difficult to get seats, think they should look to increase sitting in the area to cater for all guests. Overall a lovely stay in Spain and this hotel looked a lot nicer than many of those nearby that I saw.
The location is, as ever, perfect. The reception staff are friendly, courteous and efficient. The cleaners are very good and consistently left our room spotless. That, I am afraid is where the compliments end. On our previous visit we put some of the hotel's problems down to the fact that it was awaiting refurbishment. 12 months after our last visit, things are getting a bit desperate. By 7:30 in the morning all of the sun umbrellas (8 No.) are all gone. The pool bar is permanently shut and used as a store. There are not enough staff in the dining room and inevitably tables take an eternity to be cleared. We knew what to expect with the restricted storage space in the bedrooms, but the archaic air conditioning to all areas(particularly the bedrooms) except reception was virtually unbearable when it was 35degrees plus outside. This is a potentially fantasy hotel that has been allowed to drift to 3 star status maximum, and we will not be revisiting in the foreseeable future unless money is diverted from the Don Pablo to fulfill the basic needs of this hotel.
I booked this hotel on reading comments on tripadvisor in general most guests were very pleased arrived at hotel around 9 15 on a Sunday night one person on duty at reception who ware dealing with a guest I looked around lobby for me it looked old and depressing a little bar some tired seating definitely no wow factor .we were on all inclusive so we checked in no welcome drink no information on what all inclusive package was given a map of hotels grounds and dinner finishes at 10 not a very good start so we asked can out luggage be put in our room while we go to dinner answer was no porters on duty .we were on the fourth floor in the Don Pedro and not don marco for which I booked smallest bed room we have stayed in on holidays double bed took most of the room space single storage wardrobe nice bathroom but the shower was a joke you can't turn in it no water presser .we went to the don Pablo for a drink and to watch a show about 500 guest seated area very nice bar it was packed only 3 waiters on floor duty we got a seat and waited for table service but after 20 minutes I went to the bar waited my turn not very friendly bar men they to were vey busy .I was hoping things would get better had breakfast in don pablo the first morning it was fantastic something for everyone.went walk about the three hotels to get my bearings 5 pools plenty of sun lounges this is a huge complex loads of areas to chill out and yes building work is still going on.you can eat in either don marco or don Pablo both are very good for lunch and dinner if you can get a clean table not enough staff to cater for such a large volume of people dirty tables filthy floor when entering the dining room I was shocked to see so many dirty tables so little staff and it was the same for our duration of our holiday. I found the the staff should be sent on a costumer care course and that includes the management no one smiles no interaction with guests these hotels have being taken over by the Meila group I have worked in the catering trade for over 40 years i have never seen such unhappy staff in their job . I was booked to stay in meila Costa del sol in October when I came home I cancelled the booking when I go on holiday and stay in a hotel I expect the best costumer service from all working there sorry to say would not go back nice hotel but not for me.
Just returned from 10 day half board break with wife . Able to check in at 11.00am with Ana on Reception who was extremely pleasant and efficient . Allocated Room 3005 overlooking Don Marco pool . Room was well equipped and toiletries provided . TV had 5 English channels and safe charge of 2 euros per day . Beds comfortable and ample storage .Bath and separate shower .Food quality excellent and HOT . No need to scramble for loungers as there are a number of pools within the Don complex of three separate Hotels . Well positioned on sea front with long promenade walk available . Building work continues within "Don" complex but not too intrusive . My concern is that Don Marco retains it's present charm when it is upgraded . Only time will tell .Would recommend to anyone and intend to return once upgrade has been completed .
I love this complex so much. Last year we stayed at the Pedro and it was 3 in a room which was quite small. This year we stayed at the sister hotel the Marco. The initial room we got had a double and a single bed which didnt really work, so I headed to reception where I was dealt with Ana , the most charming, engagin and helpful lady to deal with. She immediately looked into it and said the hotel was full but she felt she could do something the following day and to return the next morning. I felt if she hadnt been able to rearrange I would still have been happy that she tried but she did come up trumps for us and we got a lovely larger room for 3 people with 3 single beds. Thank you Ana for doing this for us. Before I move onto the bar staff etc I really want to mention the most lovely maid that we had on our floor MarieAngela (I think) though the maids will always greet you with an HOLA, Marie Angela who didnt really have English nor us Spanish, had a conversation with us every day , from the initial day when we moved and were going to take our 3 extra pillows with us and she advised us that she would sort it out(in Spanish but I understood that she would and she did) She was cheerful and smiley and looked to be enjoying her job which is great to see as the maids work very hard. Thank you Marie Angela. The bar staff as always are great, they are very busy especially when the shows are on but there is a great rapport between them all which is lovely to see. Manuela and Sandra and David and Juan are some of the names that I can remember and say 10 out of 10 to all of you. I know there were renovations going on and building but it didnt dampen the holiday at all. I would highly recommend this hotel. We stayed all inclusive , the food was like many hotels , there is something for everyone , everyday so cannot complain , somedays were better than others but again Ive stayed half board in many hotels in Spain so I know what the food is like and in the Sol Don Hotels at least there are good choices of food.
