This hotel was recommended to us by a couple we met on a winter holiday at another location. They stay at the Sol Don hotels in Torremolinos on a regular basis and suggested that the hotel would meet my requirements as a disabled visitor. It has been such a success that we have now booked our third visit for 2018. I have no hesitation in recommending the Sol Don hotels in Torremolinos for elderly or disabled visitors. However, in October which is when we were there the holidaymakers were mostly more "mature" so at this time of year I wouldn't recommend the hotel to under 40's.
This was our our 12th visit so you can see how happy we are with every aspect of the hotel- it is fabulous! our only complaint was the loudness and the lateness of the evening music. Admittedly it was coming from the Don Paplo next door but both are Melia hotels and there is presumably some liason between the two
A clean, well maintained hotel with air conditioning, WiFi and lots of facilities. Fairly central and part of a large complex with plenty of family pools and sun loungers available. Varied and good (if not quite great) food (only had breakfast). The Don Marco offers a small and secluded adults only pool and jacuzzi (fantastic!) - love my kids, but it's great to lean on the grandparents and get away from children for a few days a year!
Can't believe I'm starting to write this after the rave review i gave this hotel this time last year!A lot of money has been thrown at the hotel and you can see that, but first impressions as we know are sometimes not the case! The Don Marco itself looks like it will be next for a refurbishment and although that was the one we booked, our room (1037) was just inside the refurbished modern rooms. Again, first impressions and all that. We found that inside the large walk in shower there wasn't even a tray/dish to place your own shower toiletries ,(soap, shampoo etc) Plus the shower itself was temperamental , so the water would run from extremely hot to freezing cold within seconds, every 8-10 seconds (yes I timed it so as not to get caught ) . We reported it on 3 consecutive days but no one at the desk could tell us if it had been sorted. we found that if we turned it on half pressure it maintained a more bearable temperature. The soundproofing is probably nil, as you could hear the people in the next room talking plus the fact that every sound of people walking through the hard floored hall and doors closing echoed right through the place and sounded like a prison movie with cell doors slamming, especially at night or from just after 6am when the staff arrived and talked amongst themselves outside the rooms! Really very annoying when you're trying to sleep. One last gripe, the Don Pablo restaurant has been extended to almost the size of a football pitch and modernised. Now resembles a very large IKEA dining room. Quite a walk to go around with its buffet style, something to bear in mind if any older member etc in your party. We also found that ,maybe due to the size or less staff, i don't know, but there was usually quite a wait to get drinks and a lot of times the table didn't get cleared after each course and due to this, people were placing the dirty plates on empty tables.I also, on our last evening, decided to have the freshly cooked Wok Style stir-fry. Like everyone else i plated all the raw chicken fish etc on my plate and stood in line until it was my turn. That was when i was horrified to see the chef take the plate and empty the contents into the wok to cook and then empty it back once cooked on to the same plate that had the raw chicken etc!!I walked away and I reported it to the lady at the desk on entry to the restaurant who said she would inform the manager. I don't believe for one second she did despite stressing this was a salmonella outbreak waiting to happen and the chef continued doing the same. All in all we enjoyed our stay despite the above. After all, we were there and there wasn't much we could do! It's such a shame though as after last years stay there and having thoroughly enjoyed it , it was such a disappointment to experience the above. The staff are still friendly and helpful, clean as is the hotel itself despite what i've mentioned. I dont really know how i feel now though about visitng again in the future. Shame! I would be really interested in hearing from Sol Don Hotels and what they have to say about the matter.
Stayed here several times. Same quality service. Restaurants are superb, food is of a high quality. Rooms are spacious and beds are comfortable. Beach just across the road. I'll be returning early next year.
