Crowne Plaza Zurich
- What's Included
The hotel is well connected to the tramway. Right now there is a makeover of the lobby area. Reception staff are friendly. House Keeping and Bell boy were good. I felt the restaurant could have a more better choice. Very good selection of English channels.
I wish I had seen the reviews on TripAdvisor before booking and pre-paying for this hotel. I definitely would not have made a reservation here. Whenever, I travel, especially across Africa, I choose the Crowne Plaza because of the service, facilities and use of the Club Lounge. During my month long travel across Europe to follow Jamiroquai on tour, I used the points I accumulated to stay at the Holiday Inn. However, in Zurich, I paid to stay at the Crowne Plaza so that I could have the extra luxuries the Holiday Inn does not provide. I arrived and the hotel is undergoing renovation. I have to take an elevator to the basement, go to another elevator and take that elevator up to my room. My room is dated - walls are stark white, the furniture is leather chair is stained, and the floor has scratches from a desk chair with wheels that do not role. Most disappointing is that there is no club lounge. They offered a voucher for a complimentary drink at the bar. I can get that at the Holiday Inn. I wanted to cancel my reservation for the next night, but since I prepaid, I could not get a refund.Very disappointed
Returned to this hotel after an absence of two years. Lot of refurbishment taking place in the public areas, but my room was modern, clean and comfortable. Bathroom had a good walk in shower.Went to the excellent Holmes Place gym for 40 minutes. Excellent.Had dinner in the Burger Lounge, which was a burger you design yourself. Was very tasty.Breakfast was buffet style and was OK. Lots of choices.
We arrived at the hotel at 9.00 am after an all night flight from Hong Kong. Our booking had been made 10 months earlier by our travel agent. We were bluntly told that we should have booked our room for one day earlier to ensure an early use of our room.Told we would have to wait until 2.00 pm when they would assess the situation as they were over booked and could not guarantee we would even have a room!!!My wife had a heated exchange with staff who finally agreed we could have a room, however we would have to pay an extra 55 Swiss francs per night!!Asked for the manager but was refused.Reluctantly we accepted as we were so tired and needed to refresh before embarking on an afternoon tour of Zurich. Our room was supposedly a junior suite!!Yes, nice and large but in poor condition.Skirting boards hanging off the entrance way walls, dirty black marks on the walls and the bathroom had black mould on the grouting of the tiles.A complaint to housekeeping saw a quick clean of the bathroom however the mould still remained.Bed, which had been poorly made was straightened.A small box of chocolates was left as a sort of peace offering.Nothing improved for the 2 days we were there.Hotel is central and within easy walking distance of trams.Dining was also a disaster. After our afternoon tour, we decided to have a couple of drinks and a light meal.26.50 Swiss Francs each for a Club Sandwich that was disgusting.Did not try thebreakfast as the hotel was packed with athletes who were competing at a major event in Zurich.Breakfast room was taken over and made into a formal dining room for the athletes presentation night, which was to take place 3 days after we left!!Consequently a makeshift breakfast area was put in the bar!!
We stayed for one night at the crowne plaza. Nice hotel, more 3 star than 4 but ok for one night. Large breakfast selection which will cater for all tastes. This hotel is about 25 minutes from the city centre by tram. We brought a 24 hour pass from the airport and used that for the whole day. The tram system is very easy to use once you get the hang of it. There is a migros supermarket and a couple of restaurants.
