Swiss heaven

The youth hostel is simply amazing with excellent facilities. The rooms are clean and so are the bathrooms and toilets. Breakfast is also good but can get repetitive if you are staying for many days. The hostel is easily accessible and has lot of board games to keep visitors busy. Overall a very nice and lively place to stay in !!

Good place to stay

Nice hostel to stay and relax only, extremely quiet, if you look for a place to make new friends it's quite hard to find there. The staff are very friendly and helpful, any information you need, they help you. It's easy to get there from the Hauptbanhof, which is very good, well located with some grocery stores nearby.I recommend if you look for an affordable price, which is quite impossible in Zürich! :)

Overpriced Hostel in a far location

This hostel is very far from the city. takes 30 mins to get there from city. there is no kitchen so you have to buy their food. you have to make your own bed. check out very early at 10am. Overall this is very well run hostel and very clean. it includes breakfast. I dont think it's worth the steep price tag.

Great and clean hostel

One of the nicest hostels I've been in - even better than some hotels. The hostel was super clean, the bed was comfortable and the breakfast great. They served several different coffees, toasts, cereals etc.

Great stay, nice staff

This was my second stay at one of the Swiss Youth Hostels (first stay was at the Basel Hostel-see separate review). The Zurich Youth Hostel seemed to be a well organized business. I booked both of my reservation through their corporate offices. This reservation was booked under a fall special rate of 3 nights for 99CHF, which was a great deal for overnight stays in Zurich, which this property is normally priced starting around 43CHF/night. Upon arrival, I was early and used their bag storage lockers (5CHF return deposit, *locker 006-2CHF). The young lady, Jenny, that checked me in was super nice during my check-in and my entire stay. I was able to check-in before 2p.m. as my bed was ready. My bed was a bed in a 4-bunk unit and it was very comfortable. Room:They provide bed linen, but no towels. There were two windows in my room and a heating unit. Outside of the bunk area are refund lockers, sink, and a power outlet, all still within your locked room. The hostel has assigned bunks and I had requested a lower bunk which was accommodated during my stay. There is a table and two chairs in the room and each bunk has a night light and power outlet.Restroom/Showers:There are 3 lockable showers and separate toilet rooms at each end of the hallway. No shower gels, creams provided so bring your own. The shower and bathroom area were kept very clean.Reception:Staffed 24 hours a day. Jenny checked me in and was very efficient and super friendly. Robin was also at the desk and was very friendly and was most helpful early mornings before my jog. In general, I was very impressed with the interaction with all the reception staff, so kudos to the reception team. Check-in is at 15.00, check-out 10.00. Breakfast/Kitchen: Breakfast is served from 06-09.30. There are about four cereals, three yogurt options, a fruit basket, sliced breads/cheese/meats, orange and apple juice, jams/spreads, cream cheese, tea, coffee, hot chocolate beverages. Breakfast is included with your stay and is more than sufficient to start your day. Hot beverages are available all day after breakfast hours for a fee. The Hostel offers a lunch and dinner menu served for around 20CHF. A toaster and microwave is available all day near the kitchen, but no option to cook your own food or meals.Lobby:There is the main reception area, lounge area with padded seating and long tables on one half of the room, while the other part of the lobby tends to be more the dining area at meal times, but used by the guests at other times. There is a TV room, table shuffle board, two pinball games, air hockey, table tennis, and a fussball game. The lobby bar serves snacks, sandwiches, beverages and more, a souvenir shop, restrooms, event/activities board, book exchange, two computer terminals (4.50/hr.), pay phone, and a photo board of the entire staff. Day use refundable storage lockers are also available in case of early arrival or after checkout. Grounds:There is an inner courtyard, that seemed to mostly be used by smokers during my visit and fee based parking spaces (~7CHF/day). General:---------Tram #7 from the main train station takes about 20 minutes with an additional walk of about three blocks. Bus #72 run directly to the hostel, tram stop Jugendherberge. The main entrance doors are secured late night with only key access or by door buzzer. Key card access required to enter hallway floors from the stairwells. Clean facility, nice staff, meeting rooms. Quiet times seemed to be around 10.00-16.00 each day of my stay. There are a couple of grocery stores less than two blocks away if you need snacks, beverages. Your best options to purchase alcoholic beverages on a Sunday are from the lobby bar or take Tram #7 to the main train station (COOP TO GO) for groceries and booze. The Zurich Youth Hostel is a modern facility and professionally run business with great staff. Thank you Jenny and Robin! The hostel is not located downtown, but with tram and bus service (late night, weekend bus service also) and for the cost for an overnight stay in Zurich the price can’t be beat. I would highly recommend and certainly visit again.
