Senator Hotel Zurich
- What's Included
I chose to stay in a hostel since accomodation around Zurich was a bit pricey. The service I received was beyond my expectations. I had a family room with private bathroom. The room was clean and everything was functional.Getting here is easy! For me, I got off at Zurich main station. Caught the number 7 tram towards Wollishoffen and get off at Morgental. From there it's a short walk towards the hostel.
LOCATION: Not in downtown but only 1min walk to the bus (7min to a different one) or 10min walk to the train station, 10min bus ride or 5min train ride to downtown.FACILITIES: Free wifi covered throughout, weaker signal closer to the end of the wing. Bright and large lounge. Clean shower rooms and restrooms. Refrigerator for medications only. One microwave and a toaster in the lounge.ROOMS: Dorms are nicely designed - a door separates the sink and the closets from beds, so you can brush your teeth or get changed without disturbing those who are sleeping. Clean rooms and linens.SERVICE: reception staffs will answer all your questions with patience and smile.MEALS: a few kinds of granola, yogurt and milk, bread, cheese, ham, and spreads. Coffee is charged. There is apples everyday; no veggies. Lunch and dinner are charged (20ish CHF). SURROUNDINGS: Coop (a big Swiss chain supermarket) and an ATM machine within 7min of walk. Not many restaurants and expensive.
Warm rooms with no air conditioner. No soundproof isolation, so when the guy next door coughs - you will hear it! Cigaret smoke comes in through the window if you try to get some ventilation. They want you to take of the bedsheets your self. Old and unimpressive room. No TV, minibar, iron boarding etc., just a very basic place to stay, and only a tiny bit better then sleeping on a bench in a public park or at the railroad station.
We chose this hostel since we were there for only half a day. Overall, the hostel was well furnished, especially the reception and dining hall area. The rooms can do much better. The walls were dark and gloomy, beds were too soft and cheap. Also, they had no soap in shower area or hair dryers to use. I understand, its an hostel, but few amenities are necessity which were not provided for $100 per night rate.
This is the best youth hostel I've stayed at. Very well organized. It's spacious and they have everything you need. The bus stop outside is called Jugendherberge (German for youth hostel) and so it's quite an institution...The only drawbacks is that it isn't in the center of town and it's quite expensive - paid 43 Swiss francs for a bed in a six-bed dorm - and that's a member's price!Probably one of the cheapest places to stay in Zürich anyway...
