We came to Ocean Club West to celebrate our Anniversary and what an extraordinarly splendid and romantic time we had! We were in building C on the 3rd floor...not a view of the ocean, but a view of swaying palm trees and endless beautiful cloud formations. Our maids created the most beautiful towel hearts strewn with flowers, made us rejoice. Being in the heart of Grace Bay made it even more special. We walked along Grace Bay each morning either one way or the other as OCW is pretty much in the middle. We had lunch from Solana a few days on the beach...scrumptious salads!! When the heat became too much we went to the pool...and oh how I loved the pool, waterfall and all. We saw exotic birds which came to the pool and then stalked the lizards. We had breakfast every morning on our screened in porch. There are not enough words of praise to explain the utter fabulousness of OCW.
We had an amazing time in this beautiful resort on this breathtaking island. We stayed in unit 433 and we could not have been happier. The unit is very tastefully furnished in a tropical style and has everything you could possibly need. The ceilings throughout are very high and there are ceiling fans everywhere. We had a large master bedroom with a huge king-size bed, a large closet and a tv tastefully hidden in a white wooden wardrobe. There is an ensuite bathroom in the bedroom with large tub/shower and ample counter space for your toiletries. Soap, bath/shower gel, shampoo and conditioner are available in the cabinets. The living area was also very spacious, with a sofa and two armchairs, television and ocean-themed decor. There are books and games under the televison one can use. The sofa opens out to a large bed, which turned out to be quite firm and comfortable for my daughters. We were also given a roll-away bed, so they ended up each having their own bed. The dining area has both a large traditional table and a bar with stools on which one can have a quick bite to eat or breakfast coffee. I had my coffee on the lounge chair out on the balcony each morning. The kitchen is a proper, fully-furnished kitchen with absolutely everything you might need both in terms of appliances as well as dishware. There is a dishwasher and you are provided with dishwasher soap as well as liquid dish soap. The unit is on the top floor of a small building, building D, which is located on the left centre of the courtyard. The unit has views onto the pool and courtyard and you can see the beach and the ocean from the main window facing onto the balcony. The building has no elevator, but, unless you have specific difficulties, it is really not a problem as the building is very small. There is wifi and air conditioning in the unit although I recommend opening the windows and letting the ocean breeze run through. The resort has a beautiful pool with a very unique design wrapping around a little island. On the island are bbq's that you may use on a first come first serve basis. The pool water is always warm and there were never a lot of people around. There is a small restaurant by the pool, facing the ocean, with live music each night that can be heard from the poolside. The front desk has freshly brewed coffee available in the morning for early risers (until 9am, if I am not mistaken). The staff at the front desk is very sweet and helpful. You can borrow bikes and there is a free shuttle to the sister property. You are given a fob-type bracelet which serves as your key and as identification for staff througout the property. There are towels, surf boards, life vests and kayaks available free of charge at the beach. There is a work-out space on the back of the front desk building which is air conditioned and always empty. There is plenty of security everywhere. There is a supermarket at walking distance (just ask the front desk) and two small outdoor shopping centres with restaurants, bakeries, souvenir shops, etc. The supermarket has a great bakery section - try the Barbara Rum pastry - it is sooo good! The supermarket is rather expensive, as everything on the island tends to be, but they do have everything you need. Mostly US products, other than their local beer and Barbara Rum at lower prices than anywhere else. The Barbara Rum cake in the tin is also surprisingly good - warm it up a tiny bit and serve it with vanilla ice cream. We rented a car from Grace Bay Car Rentals (parking at the resort is free) and regret not renting it upon arrival at the airport instead of taking the taxi. The taxi is supposed to cost $15 a person, but the driver kind of ripped us off, so beware. Considering there were 4 of us, it would have been cheaper to rent a car and use it for a couple of days, do some grocery shopping and explore this tiny island. The island is very very small, and the car rental gave us a great map to get around. Although it was fun to drive around, the best beach is right in front of Ocean Club West. Grace Bay beach is deep and the water is a transparent aqua colour and shallow. The water is not very salty and the sand is so fine it feels like flour. You can see tropical fish swimming around and you can find tons of shells. There were very few people around on the beach when we were there.I recommend visiting the sister resort - on Monday night there is a complimentary rum punch welcome cocktail at the Cabana Bar where you'll find the best, friendly and happy staff and really great food. We usually took the free shuttle on our way over there and walked along the beach on our way back. I also recommend the Thursday Fish Fry at Bight Park (this is one of the days on which you want to rent the car) where you can find numerous local restaurants have stands and offer a taste of their best fare at reduced prices. You can also get souvenirs at this event for less than store prices, including Wellington's unique sand jewelry. Bring cash.Oh, and you don't want to miss the snorkelling at the end of Penn's Road (follow the sign for Somewhere Restaurant) which you can go to on the same morning as the Fish Fry (might as well make use of that car). I recommend bringing life vests (or borrow noodles from the resort) as the currents are strong and bring your own snorkels from home as they are soooo expensive on the island. Bring your own everything, food, water, as there is nothing around here except the Somewhere Restaurant.People on the island, everyone, is so friendly. Staff, locals, guests... everyone.
A perfect place to celebrate my 70th with children and grandchildren. The pool, beach, and restaurants were perfect. Walked to several restaurants in the area. Made breakfast in our beachfront condo and grilled lunch by the pool.
We had a great time at Ocean Club West. The location is perfect proximity to all of the restaurants and shopping in addition to a beautiful spot on the beach. There were plenty of towels and beach chairs with umbrellas and the service on the beach was excellent. Shout out to John who makes a delicious Raspberry Mojito. The staff was friendly and accommodating and they were great about getting people at the bar interacting with one another. If you are looking for a relaxing beach vacation...look no further! We will be back!
Loved this resort! There is no "wow" factor upon arrival, but the tranquility, staff and surroundings will have you returning again and again. Things I would have wanted to know before arrival: the kitchen has everything, dish soap, paper towels, salt/pepper, garbage bags, and laundry soap. They have bikes to get to a grocery store and shops. The studios are the farthest from the beach, we are happy we upgraded to a one bedroom, even though nothing is that far. Beach is spectacular!! Tennis courts right on property and a good gym. Restaurant was nice too!
