Very nice and comfortable with pretty grounds

Most hotels on Provo are either slightly garish (think Regent Seven Stars) or generic feeling condo hotels. The Royal West Indies is one of the original hotels on the island, and feels just a bit more like it belongs. Truth be told, nothing on this island is very Caribbean; one might as well be on the west coast of Florida. But Grace Bay is a beautiful stretch of beach, and if you want to enjoy a quick getaway, this hotel -- on the widest stretch of the beach -- is one of the nicest places to stay, by virtue of feeling just a bit more tropical and authentic. The overall feel is low-key, with lush gardens and two pretty pools. The rooms were very comfortable, and were done with a bit more feeling than similar condo resorts I've stayed in on the island. (No wicker furniture). Our room had everything one could need, including a small kitchen area and even a washing machine. I was particularly appreciative of the staff, who were all very nice and went out of their way to make sure we were well taken care of. Again, one doesn't go to Provo for the Caribbean vibe that one would find on, say, Barbados or the British Virgin Islands, and the island can feel a bit souless. But if you need a hit of warm weather and some beautiful water, a few days in Provo can be enjoyable, and this would be a good, gentle place to base yourself.

The beach makes this place...otherwise OK

I was underwhelmed with the resort all things considered. The grounds are well maintained and the room is appropriately priced for what you get. Granted the weather when we were there was choppy and not typical, but just didn't feel like I was getting the best the Island had to offer. The best part of this resort is the location it has on Grace Bay and the beauty of its beach. We walked up and down the beach and our resort had the widest part of the beach. It also is nicely located within walking distance of other restaurants and hotels. The staff at RWI are hit or miss. Some were very friendly and helpful, but I have to say that the Pelican Bay Restaurant staff were cold and not welcoming. Try smiling! Overall the resort is nice, but I was definately not blown away by RWI.

Top Notch!

First time traveling to Turks and Caicos and found a jewel in the Royal West Indies Resort. Everything was perfect! Beautiful beach, fantastic restaurant/bar, well maintained grounds, clean room (with lots of extra amenities), friendly and engaging staff. As I prefer a smaller resort it fit the bill completely. We spoke to guests that had been coming back to the resort every year for the last 10+ years. I can't wait to return myself!

Relaxed and quiet

My husband and I visited Turks & Caicos for the first time and fell in love with Providenciales. We wanted to avoid large all-inclusive resorts as they tend to be noisy and busy with young families and holiday makers. I found the Royal West Indies through an agent and researched it online. It is a small resort on Grace Bay Beach, voted one of the most beautiful beaches in the world - and it is! Our junior suite was very clean and had a mini kitchen and large balcony looking over the beach. We walked the beach, snorkelled, chartered a cruise and dined every evening in fabulous restaurants. We rented a car for two days, went grocery shopping, attended church on Sunday just to get the feel of the place. It was a wonderful vacation. The Turks are a little more expensive than many of the other islands, but it is so beautiful and the people are so friendly, we plan on going back soon.

Good hotel

Great location, amazing beach, confortable beds. Would return. The only thing that bothered me was the amount of mosquitoes inside the room and the service at their restaurant, the staff seemed to be in a mad mood most of the times. Outside the restaurant the service was great
