Beautiful beach and room. Service can be improved

My husband and I really enjoyed the Windsong and will most likely return. The best parts of our trip were the room and the beach. The oceanfront room was huge and beautiful. It was much more space than we needed. The oceanfront balcony was fabulous and we spent many evenings on the patio enjoying the ocean breeze. The beach is clean and the snorkeling was great. There is a reef right in front of the hotel and my husband snorkeled there everyday. The least favorite part of the trip was the service. There were two instances (that I can recall) where the hotel employees were downright rude. For example, on my first morning there, I arrived to breakfast at 7:30 (which is the start time for the continental breakfast). The server setting the tables said "I'm not ready yet!" and I said that I thought breakfast started at 7:30 and he said "well, I'm not ready yet!" I couldn't believe it. I went straight to the front desk and complained. By the time I walked back to the oceanfront tables, there was another couple sitting. This man ended up being my server :( and at one point he said "I wasn't mean to you. Last night, our utensils were used so it took more time to get things ready"...or something like that. No apology. Another example, is at the Dunes restaurant. We dined there that one evening and never returned. There were 5 or so tables set and we picked one. Apparently, some of the tables were set for more than 2 people but we didn't notice and we sat at a table with 4 place settings. The server didn't waste the chance to say "you picked a table with more than 2 place settings?". My husband and l looked at each other, stunned. We didn't even notice AND there was no one else at any of these tables. I told her that we could move and then my husband said that there was no one else there and her response was "it's still early". Well, no one else showed up that night. Most of the employees were friendly but a few were just rude. It's too bad because it's such a beautiful place. I don't think the service will deter us from returning because the room and beach overcompensated but I had to write a review because I think the service staff needs a refresher on manners and customer service.

Comfortable, friendly stay

As other reviews have said, the Windsong is a great place to stay. This was our 2nd visit to T&C and our first visit here. We stayed in a deluxe 2 bedroom suite which was huge. Kids had 2 twins and my husband and I had a king bedroom. The bedroom was huge. The living area featured a full kitchen and comfortable seating area. And there was a huge porch. We enjoyed the space when escaping the sun but still with a great view and for playing cards at night. We also loved being able to walk from our porch to the beach in less than a minute. We cooked most lunches and kept the kitchen stocked with snacks which helped with the budget. (The island is expensive so if your family eats a lot of packaged goods you might consider bringing some with you.. e.g. Cereal costs $9 a box!). Having a washer and dryer was great. (Bring tide pods with you...)Our favorite part of the resort was the beachfront. The beach isn't wide like in some parts of the island but there were always chairs available. The benefit of the location is the reef which is literally right off the beach. Bring snorkel gear if you have it or you can rent on site. Super cool! We also used (included in the rare) standup paddle boards, a kayak and one of the beach staff took us sailing on a hobie cat. A few reviewers complained about the number of other people coming from other resorts to snorkel the reef -which is in the National park btw. There are people walking on the beach with snorkel gear, but no one we saw was ill behaved in any way. If you are looking for a beach with no people then you might look elsewhere, but it is a pretty relaxing spot.Breakfast was included in our rate purchased through Costco) and wasn't fancy but was good to get the day started. We had a few lunches at Jojos cafe which was fine but not great and the service was slow, which is common on the island. On our last trip for just my husband and me we stayed at Seven Stars and the food there was way better, but you pay for it with the room rates! Everyone we interacted with was friendly and helpful... really a great staff all the way around! We would definitely go back to the Windsong again.

Favorite place on the planet so far

If you want to roll out of bed and go snorkeling in pristine waters, this is the place for you! We absolutely loved our stay at the Windsong. The location of this hotel is key. It has clear blue ocean waters in front of the resort and a coral reef just off to the side. As soon as you enter the ocean you can see lots of ocean wildlife....turtles, stingrays, tons of colorful fish and lots more!! There is so much to do on the beach and in the water...snorkeling, paddle boarding, kayaking, resting on floating rafts, etc... There are so many pros about this place. The service was very good. Whenever we had any issue with our room ( and we had a couple such as keys that weren't working, a canopy missing a piece, a broken light fixture) , the staff was up helping us out in minutes every time!! We loved the penthouse with the rooftop deck!

Almost Paradise

This boutique resort sits on the beautiful turquoise ocean. You honestly can't get any closer to the sea. The views are stunning and spectacular. There are plenty of activities to keep everyone busy such as sailing, paddle boarding, swimming, floating on rafts, and biking. A small, protected reef sits along the hotel’s shoreline that makes for outstanding snorkeling. You literally just walk into the ocean, and there it is, no boat ride necessary. My husband went for fifteen minutes one morning and saw a giant turtle, a 4-foot barracuda, and several schools of multicolored fish. By 11am-12pm, the beach gets very busy. People from the surrounding resorts (Beaches, etc.) come over to snorkel at the reef. Around this time, there are several boats for parasailing, rafting, and just plain ol’ drinking that drive right up to the beach searching for customers, some with their music blaring, which can be charming some days, and annoying on others, depending on what stage of sleep you were just jolted awake from. The distance from the hotel to the ocean is very short, which is terrific in one respect because you’re so close to the water. But you’re also close to everyone around you. As a result, you can hear what they’re saying whether you’d like to or not. The food at Windsong ranged from outstanding to just OK. The drinks were always spectacular (shout out to our favorite bartender, Alicia). We got a deal for complimentary breakfast every morning, and it was always lovely (another shout out to our favorite server, Royalton). If you’re early enough, you can sit at one of six tables that overlook the ocean. If you want a change of scenery for meals, there are several restaurants and bars at the neighboring hotels to choose from. A restaurant right next door called Somewhere was consistently good – even if their live entertainment wasn’t. Kitchen 218 at Beach House Hotel was also fantastic. So was The Noodle Bar at The West Bay Club, despite their dreadful service. As a result of Windsong’s close proximity to these restaurants, renting a car wasn’t necessary for us. We weren’t eager to drive on the opposite side of the road either. However we finally braved it on our last day and took a drive to a hidden jewel of a beach called Taylor Bay, followed by lunch at Las Brisas, both of which were definitely worth the drive. Our room itself was great. We opted for a standard room which didn’t have much of a view, but it was quiet and roomy enough for my husband and myself. There were two housekeeping visits each day, so cleanliness was never an issue. The overall service, however, is the real reason we’re only giving the Windsong four stars instead of five. While most of the employees we met were extremely friendly and eager to please, a few gave off the vibe that we weren’t necessarily welcome as much as tolerated, and a one was downright rude. A beach attendant asked us to move from our cabana that we had been using since 7:30am. The reason? A "returning" guest claimed it was her regular spot and wanted to use it. (My husband was particularly outraged by this.) Then there were little things. One day, each guest on the beach was given complimentary cold water bottles and washcloths in the afternoon, which was so refreshing and welcome. The next day, we were not, which left us asking, “What happened to the water bottles and washcloths?” We also ran out of toilet paper in our room. Small things, I know, but small things quickly start to add up in what could have been an unforgettable vacation. Bottom line—Windsong is a little rough around the edges, but still results in a lovely vacation in Turks and Caicos that won’t leave you broke. If you enjoy lots of beach activities, are traveling with children, or single and don't mind a little extra noise and hustle and bustle, definitely stay here. However if you’re really looking for quiet, relaxing few days on the beach with flawless service, you might consider staying somewhere else.
