Dining on the Dunes

Although we were not staying at the Windsong we frequently visited "JoJo's" Restaurant and had two delightfully romantic dinners dining on the Dunes. During lunch one day the Chef Lulu stopped by our table and invited us to a special "jerk" buffett. The meal was fantastic. Jerk chicken, pork, ribs and shrimp, a salad, and assorted vegetables and dessert. What a feast. We were seated on the dunes at sunset and this is the most spectacular view on the island. We have dined at all the fancy restaurants on Grace Bay but chose dining on the dunes at Windsong for our last romantic evening before departing. The lobster bisque is fabulous! Great food, wonderful service, and the best sunset view on the island. Can't be beat!

Fantastic stay at the Windsong

My friends and I stayed at Windsong in the Ocean View Suite, the view was stunning and room was perfect.. The staff at Windsong are fantastic and the best of all Samuel was amazing. Great beach front hotel, thank you for the stay and thanks to Samuel for serving us so well.

Amazing Stay!

My wife and I just returned from a week at Provo. We spent 4 nights at Windsong. A wonderful resort. The suite was beautiful, the food was good, great snorkeling right off the beach was a treat. But, it was the staff that made the stay amazing. From the front desk receptionist to the beach attendants, and every staffer in between, they were all friendly, attentive and clearly committed to making sure we had a memorable stay. We stayed at a another resort nearby for a couple of nights where that wasn’t the case, and that made us appreciate Windsong even more. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

Great room with great view. World class staff. Tremendous snorkeling experience.

My wife and I typically take one really nice trip each year to a Caribbean island. This year we made our first trip to Providenciales, Turks and Caicos. It was a memorable stay at the Windsong resort. We have traditionally stayed at larger resorts but decided to try a smaller one for a change. The thought of having a format with just 53 rooms appealed to us as we thought it would be less crowded at the restaurant, pool, and beach. We were right. We stayed November 4th thru the 11th. We selected the oceanfront view and stayed in room 121S. We have stayed at a number of nice resorts in the Caribbean but none of our rooms have ever matched what the Windsong offered. Not to sound overly dramatic but the room as well as the view from the balcony was breathtaking.I’ll start out with a few of the cons since frankly there aren’t many of them and they are all completely minor. Overall, we had a wonderful experience. But I’ll share some cons, share the pros, and then offer a few other tips around the island.Cons:Saturday night dinner. Most resorts we’ve encountered in the past will have a big celebration dinner on Wednesday evening. The Windsong actually has their big dinner event on Saturday night instead. This is a bit odd only because Saturday is typically a big travel and transition day for many vacationers. People just arriving are just starting to get a feel for the resort and may not even be aware of the dinner. Likewise many people leave on Saturday morning/afternoon to head back home. It would be better positioned in the middle of the week. Beyond that we thought there could be improvements to the set up as well as a reduction in cost. It is $45 per person. Then there is a mandatory 12% government tax along with a minimum of a 10% service charge. So the experience is a bit pricey. Then there is the set up. They put the DJ and speakers directly next to the food tent. It is quite loud and hard to hear the gentleman that is reviewing the food options. There are many other places that the DJ and speakers could be positioned. We were then told we could pick three of six meat options. While that sounds nice in reality the servings were not very generous. As we made our way to our table there was no lighting at all. We were eating in complete darkness. And back to the portions I was able to eat everything in just a few bites. Of all of our meals at the resort the Saturday night event was honestly the least enjoyable one for us. So we felt that they could make improvements to the cost and the offering.Exploring the island. Overall we felt the staff was wonderful. The only area that we had any disappointment at all was in terms of getting ideas of what to do and where we could go outside of the resort. We wanted to explore the island and check out great beaches and restaurants and shopping and we felt like that was the one area that the staff wasn’t able to provide us a lot of direction on. We finally rented a car and just went out and explored on our own. Pool. They have a nice pool. However, the pool temperature was probably between 70 to 75 degrees. It was nice to take a quick dip in to cool off but the temperature isn’t conducive to hanging out and enjoying a few drinks. It isn’t hanging out and socializing temperature. We’re used to the pool being just a bit warmer. Again not a big deal by any stretch but just something that was different than what we were accustomed to at most other resorts.Shower: overall the bathroom was phenomenal. But there isn’t an enclosed shower. You have to step into a large tub which has the shower head centered in the middle of the ceiling. The water pressure isn’t very strong and you’ve have to play with the faucet for a while to get some warm water. And there is no door or guard to keep the water from splashing on the floor. No matter how careful you are you’ll need to clean up the floor when you’re done. There’s really no way to avoid the water getting on the floor.TV. I know what you’re thinking….who cares about the TV when you’re at the beach. Fair point. But there were times when we wanted to get out of the sun for an hour and just relax in the room. While they have a large selection of channels you’ll find that at times the TV will go into a scramble mode. It is annoying but again not a big deal. It’s just something that you’ll need to be aware of in case you do plan to watch any TV.Spa. My wife and I each booked a 60 minute massage. In short, we’d had better. It certainly wasn’t the worst experience but also far from the best too. Compared to all of their other services at the resort this would be the only one that probably wasn’t world class in nature. Again nice people and a decent environment but just not the best massages for $135 pre-tip per person. Expense. It was a great vacation. But please understand that you will pay a bit of a premium to stay here. We will say that in the end we found it to be well worth the cost and we hope that you’ll see the value in it as well.Pros:Service. The Windsong is hands down the best service that we have ever received on any of our island vacations. It isn’t even close. Max and Nicola at the check in desk were great. It was the quickest and most hassle free check in that we’ve ever experienced at a resort. The butler service from Randy and Khalil is top notch. Evelyn and Jerome at the bar were friendly and quick to get drinks. Royalton and Samuel provided great service at all of our meals. Every single person that we met at the resort had a smile and a friendly demeanor. Accommodations. The oceanfront room was amazing. The main bathroom was huge and had double sinks with great lighting. We also had a half bath as well. The bedroom was also spacious with a great bed and comfortable pillows. There is a large closet and plenty of dressers to place your clothes. We had a full kitchen. If you want to stock up for the week there is plenty of space and brand new appliances throughout. The family room area had comfortable chairs and a couch. Best of all we had a small balcony just off the bedroom and then a large balcony that overlooks the beach and the water. The furniture is the nicest balcony furniture that we have ever encountered on vacation. And the view was amazing. We spent plenty of time starting and ending our days on the balcony just looking out and enjoying the view. Grocery shuttle. They offer a free shuttle to the grocery store at 4PM each day. We took advantage of this our first day and loaded up the kitchen for the week. You may get a little sticker shock when you enter the grocery store but it is still a good value to eat lunch at the room a few times during the week.Lounge chairs. There were plenty of the lounge chairs at the pool. And they are high end and very comfortable. They also have covered areas as well. There is a similar set up out on the beach. Plenty of chairs and lots and lots of covered options if you’re looking to get out of the sun for a bit.JoJo restaurant. While they only have one restaurant on site they do offer a decent offering of food. The breakfast is free: oatmeal, yogurt, fruit, bagels, etc. You can get a few eggs or a side of bacon or sausage for a $4 charge which we felt was reasonable. For the lunch menu we had grouper, tacos, burgers, pizza, etc. Everything we had we were happy with in terms of taste. Somewhere. That is actually the name of the restaurant/bar next door. It is a short walk and they have a good menu and friendly servers. Ask for Sory as she is the nicest and most efficient of all the servers there. Coral Reef. This is one of the things that really separated this vacation from a lot of the others. The water is crystal clear and they have a great coral reef just about 20 yards off of the beach. I would snorkel at least twice every single day. I never got tired of it. We got to see some amazing sea life. We were bummed that we did miss out on two very cool experiences. One day we missed a group of dolphins. We took off to do some exploring of the island. When we came back we were sad to hear that we missed out. Hopefully your luck on seeing the dolphins will be better than ours. Another day we missed out on seeing a nurse shark. The staff said that it is the first time that they can remember a nurse shark coming in to swim around along the reef and shoreline. So again we missed out and it sounds like this isn’t a common occurrence. But all that said we still saw some amazing things. Not surprisingly we saw tons of fish. Many would swim just a few inches under our bellies. Clearly, they are used to seeing people out and about around the reef. We saw tons of sting rays, saw barracuda, tons of sea turtles, etc. By far the biggest wow factor for me was seeing an eagle ray which was nearly eight feet wide. It was an amazing sight to see. So if you enjoy snorkeling you will find this clear water and the ocean life to be some of the very best that you’ll ever find. If you enjoy swimming with the sea turtles we do have a tip. For whatever reason we found the turtles to be the most active around 3:30 PM. We have no idea why that is but that is when we had our best luck of seeing multiple turtles on the left side of the reef near that time frame. Another tip is to wear water shoes. While there are some sandy spots there are also a lot of rocks and pieces of coral as you’re first walking into the water. So having some water shoes to protect you is a good idea. Lastly, the resort rents great equipment for just $5 a day. We brought our own but eventually switched to their equipment as it is top of the line. It is well worth the $5 investment.Other tips:We rented a car for $60 a day. The cost of a short taxi ride is about $16 so the value of paying $60 for the freedom of driving anywhere on the island is actually worth the price. We found Pelican Beach just a short drive from the resort. This small stretch of beach had tons of conch shells. If you’re looking for the best place to find shells this is the location. If you do go with a taxi try to find someone nice and tell them that you’ll be around all week. We lucked out and met Ray from KK&R taxi. His number is 649-232-1611. He was polite and professional and on the few occasions that we needed him he was always on time for the pickup. There are two places on the island that we would suggest that you avoid. They only have one casino on the island called the Casablanca and in truth it wasn’t much of an experience. For starters they claim that they offer free shuttle service to and from all of the resorts. However, when we called we waited over 30 minutes and no one ever showed up. So we finally broke down and paid the $16 fee for the 10 minute taxi ride to the casino. It was a wasted trip. It is a small casino. Really, really small. We got there at 9PM on Saturday night and there were only two tables open: one for blackjack and one for roulette. There were maybe 15 to 20 people in the casino tops. There was no energy in the place at all. We also appeared to be the only vacationers in the place. Most everyone else appeared to be the regular locals. It simply wasn’t what we were anticipating. So our recommendation is to pass on that. The second place to avoid is Coco Bistro. It is highly rated on Trip Advisor but that is a head scratcher to us. When they served our meal it was covered in 20 to 30 flies. It was disgusting. And when we mentioned this to the wait staff they didn’t care at all. No apology. No offer of a discount. No offer of a free drink. It was $165 pre-tip for a fly infested meal. So unless you like to be swarmed with flies we would suggest that you avoid this place. We did find a lot of great places to eat and drink. Danny Buoy’s and Jimmy’s Dive Bar had really good food and cold beverages. And in terms of a more romantic event we would suggest the Mango Reef restaurant. They had great service and great food. If you’re looking for the last night of the trip romantic place our suggestion is Mango Reef.In conclusion, the rooms here at the Windsong are amazing. And the view from our balcony was breathtaking. The staff is the friendliest that we have ever encountered. And honestly there isn’t a need to pay for any kind of snorkeling adventure. There is nothing that can top what you’ll see if you just walk out from the beach at the Windsong resort. The water is crystal clear and you will see an incredible number of fish, sting rays, sea turtles, etc. This is an incredible place to stay and you will be happy you picked it.

First time in Turks and Caicos

Just returned from our 5 night stay at the Windsong Resort. The grounds were beautiful and being replanted in spots from storm damage. The beach was great. Also had some loss due to the hurricane but the water was clear, calm. and a small reef was right off the shore and very easily accessible. Great for snorkeling. We stayed in a standard room (don't spend much time in there as a rule when vacationing) and it was clean, updated but very small, so much so that we hardly had room for our luggage and slept in twin beds. Asked for an upgrade but our request was denied. The hotel had a lot of vacancies so that was not an issue. Ate in their restaurant. The food was good but pricey. The staff was wonderful for the most part. Sooooo... mixed reviews. The island itself was beautiful and we enjoyed our trip overall.
