Apart-hotel Citadines London Barbican
- What's Included
Location: St. Paul's, The City, Tower of London
Quick overnight stay last minute in London.Room was large and spacious with all that was needed, wifi and tv was a little troublesome but did work in the end. This was clean and warm and made for a good nights stop over, would happily use again
We chose Citadines as we prefer apartment hotels, we liked what we saw advertised on their website regarding the apartments, the price, location etc. Although on a busy road, the sound proofing was very good. It was also close to the tube station. Upon arrival it was very obvious the Reception is under refurbishment. This was no problem at all. Reception staff were efficient and professional. Citadines also offers free tea/coffee albeit we did not try any. We were given our apartment keys and we went directly to it. As outlined by Reception, it was a newly refurbished room. It was very nice indeed but it was not as advertised. No bath, just shower, no dishwasher (we could live without that) and no DVD player. I know it sounds silly but we like to catch up with films as we are busy people and don't usually have the time at home, hence why we take a couple of DVDs with us when we go away.I returned to Reception and explained the situation. The young man was helpful and gave me a key to another deluxe studio and explained that it had not been refurbished. It did need refurbishing, but it was clean and had everything as advertised on the Citadines website. I did enquire as to why a newly refurbished room did not have the facilities as advertised on the website but he could not answer.Unfortunately the DVD player broke the following day. Reception arranged for someone to attend to the problem very promptly but was unable to repair it. He changed it twice but those players were broken too! Also if you tried to watch the TV in bed while sitting up, the bed moves away from the wall!!! A very odd experience! We tried to stop it but could not.I cannot fault the size of the deluxe studio apartment, the comfort of the bed, the cleanliness, the staff, but Citadines let itself down. My complaints may be small in the grand scheme of things, but they are important to us. Don't advertise what you don't deliver!
I stayed at Citadines Barbican for nine nights after Christmas and during New Year. The Aparthotels is in the final stages of a renovation and myrenovated room (actually a studio) was wonderful. It was large, very well appointed, spotlessly clean (and cleaned once during my stay) and very quiet (well soundproofed). The bed and linens were good quality and the mattress was very comfortable. The kitchenette was fully supplied with utensils, pots and pans, cutlery, plates ,cups dish towels, detergent, toaster, electric kettle etc. The bathroom was large with a standing shower, good quality towels. The location in Barbican about 2 city blocks directly from the Underground is convenient and it is In walking distance to the Museum of London, Saint Paul's Cathedral,The Millennium Bridge, and ( if enengetic) Tate Modern. As a frequent visitor to London I was very satisfied with the Citadines Barbican. I think it offered good value for price spent .
Hotel was clean, cosy, value for a money. Free coffee and tea 24 hours provided downstairs. I like the idea of fully equipped mini kitchen. The staff is friendly and helpful. Definitely would be coming back again.
Wonderful accommodation in a very good location. Staff was very polite and kind. We would recommend daily house keeping though. Complementary drinks were very helpful. The hotel is very accessible to most of the London tourist places.
