Pleasant rooms - overall a good stay

We stayed here as a work project requires us to be near the Barbican. Location was good - walking distance to the tube, lots of restaurants and the Barbican itself. Rooms had just been refurbished and look great. Staff on check in were friendly and helpful. We had an apartment - great space, clean, bright , comfy bed - nice bathroom & kitchen. We had only booked for 1 night and needed 2 nights but the staff advise you to find prices online and book online which seemed a bit odd. We could'nt find the room at a good price online so ended up moving all our stuff into 2 different rooms for night two. It would have been easier to let us have a small discount - stay in or apartment and save on 3 lots of housekeeping - a shame that no one wanted to help with a logical plan. Otherwise a good stay and would stay here again if we needed to be based in this area.

Nice but not for light sleepers

The hotel's lobby looks nice and modern looking but the rooms are a bit outdated. Still the place was clean and staff was very nice and helpful!!The only thing is that the way the doors to the rooms are set up. There's one door that leads to 2 rooms. But it's loud, so every time the neighbors come in through the main door as well as their room's door... the noise the doors make is loud enough to wake everyone in the next room. I only stayed one night but didn't sleep at all.

Great place - beware if the tube isn't running!

This is a great place to stay in a good location with a tube station and bus stop nearby! They are currently renovating but we stayed in a renovated room and it was lovely - better than 3 star I would say! I have two qualms though: we booked a room for 4 people which was a king bed and a sofa bed. The king bed was huge and comfortable however the sofa bed was the tiniest I had seen! About the size of a single bed and a half - sleeping on that with 2 people was awful and you were shoulder to shoulder touching the entire time. I wouldn't recommend for 4 people. Also the weekend we came the circle line of the tube was closed for renovations and made it very difficult to get to and from main tourist attractions and the hotel easily and quickly... if you intend to use the tube check the dates of renovation prior to booking.

Convenience and comfort

Our second stay at this location, which is wonderfully convenient for central London destinations. Staying in a large studio room, the facilities were excellent, with comfortable bed and chairs and a well equipped kitchenette. Bathroom good with fascinating centuries old map of London imprinted on the floor. Self service laundry facilities in the basement are provided for an additional cost per load. Staff were always very helpful and the stock of umbrellas at the front door helped us cope with the January weather. My only gripe was provision of a filter based system for making coffee, filters not provided and not stocked in local supermarkets either. A plunger/cafetiere would be a great improvement. Will certainly return again.
