It's been recently refurbished with a nice, open lobby, great breakfast, and comfortable rooms. Location is very good, just a few blocks from the Tube, several excellent restaurants right nearby, and coffee shops. The staff is very friendly and efficient. Looking forward to returning very soon!!
We have stayed at the hotel 23 times since 2009 and during these times have seen a lot of alterations, it was always a good hotel but now it’s very good. The staff are excellent both at the restaurant bar and reception and have always been so. The rooms are good with all the amenities you would want, the Bloom & Willow bar and restaurant have improved a lot and the food quality has also improved. I must say that the new draught bitter Shipyard pale ale isn’t a patch on the old London I.P.A. thank the lord they have Pilsner Urquell draught.I would have rated the hotel higher except for the breakfast service there are at least 6 staff milling about and they all seem to work within non flexible lines of demarcation, so if you want a coffee refill you have to wait for the coffee waiter. In this day and age there should be greater flexibility, for example the staff looking after the restaurant on a night serve behind the bar and in addition take orders and serve freshly cooked meals, the only full time designated waiter is Abas who is very efficient and knows how to keep thinks ticking over like a well oiled machine, when he is on his days off the bar staff step in no problem. What I can’t understand is why in this day and age why this service is needed, when coffee and tea machines have improved out of sight and provide an excellent cup of coffee and tea etc. I know there must be a reason to keep the service personal but I’m sure most would quickly adapt to using a coffee dispenser. They did it with a toaster so eliminating piles of cold toast that was ignored, so why not consider streamlining breakfast tea and coffee service. For unlike the staff looking after diners on a night on a morning the breakfast is totally buffet style so moving to getting your own beverages should be no problem.Barry C
As part of a super break gift for my wife and I, which also included taking in a play. We stayed overnight at this very friendly hotel. The staff were helpful and attentive, our room was more than adequate and comfortable. We enjoyed drinks in what was an excellent bar, and enjoyed a hearty breakfast in the morning. Very enjoyable stay in what was a superbly located hotel.
2 of us stayed here for a short theatre break in December, it was pleasant, clean, comfortable and near the tube station, so didn’t have to walk too far. The room was spacious, clean and had tea, coffee, milk, iron, ironing board, hairdryer and soap etc, in the bathroom. Our only complaint would be the shower does tend to go hot and cold and I’m sure they switched the heating off at night, it was very cold in our room so had to snugggle right down into the duvet. Had a meal in the restaurant which was reasonably priced and really nice. Breakfast was lovely. Staff were very friendly and for a small fee 50 pence, kept our bags so we could sightsee without having to lug it about with us. Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel for a short break.
Very nice location next to the Russel square garden. I stayed at single room for 3 nights. Old hotel but well maintained facilities. I liked the peaceful view from the window. if you book through hotel website, you can get a free dinner coupon which is available on the day of arrival. This hotel was a lot better than Tavistock, which is another branch of imperial Hotel group near Russel square.
