Best Western The Cromwell
- What's Included
This an amazing location, but the standard is not what I expect from an Ibis Styles. The ghost of Best Western lingers on after the rebrand. Decor and furnishings are worn and dated, black mold/sealant in bathrooms, feels pretty fusty on the whole. There was a mixup over payment and I had to pay on the day despite having prepaid for the room. Initially given a noisy room over Cromwell Road, asked for a switch to a quieter room and the view from the garden rooms is actually pretty nice, so ask for one of those if you can.
Me and my partner decided to go out on a limb to go to London at last minute. We went on last minute deals and came across the Ibis Gloucester Road, as the price was very good at £79 for one night on the Saturday. The outside looked really nice and clean and so did the lobby as well as the Room. We checked in and were given our keys to the room so we dropped off our luggage and went out for an explore. The staff were really helpful with any query I asked of them.Fast forward to breakfast and following the instructions the night previous that it was in the lower floor, as soon as we stepped into the breakfast hall we felt out of place as there was no indication of where to sit. We found a table that had the previous customers plates and glasses as staff members running around without much organisation to it. The breakfast was continental with lots of breads and granola but when asking for a cup of coffee for the second time the staff member remembered me asking the previous time and was quick to apologise. So to round it off...Good points:LocationStaff friendlinessCleanlinessBad points:Breakfast as a wholeBroken shower
This hotel is very handy for the Royal Albert Hall, an easy 10-15 minutes walk.We asked for a quiet room which we got, it was a little small but we were only there one night and it was very clean and comfortable. When we returned we were able to have a nice drink in the bar and the prices were ok considering where you are.
Faulty lighting - broken light fittings Black sealant in bathroom Booked two rooms - one through Tesco vouchers - as a result of this we were put in the basement next to the refrigeration unit which made a horrendous noise all night Broken furniture
Googled the hotel to find the nearest tube - Google says South Kensington.... WRONG! We walked well over a mile with suitcases. In fact, the nearest tube is Gloucester Road and is about a 2 minute walk around the corner. We had booked a garden terrace room. I think the addition of the outside space also makes the bedroom itself small. We came to the conclusion that the terraced area would be perfect in the summer or for smokers but in December? No. Save your money and book a standard room. The room was clean but the colours drab and furnishings very tired looking. Couldn’t seem to get the lighting above dim. Despite a standing heater, air-conditioning and using the extra blanket from the wardrobe, we were cold. Having said that, it was snowing. The shower flooded the bathroom every time it was used. However, the breakfast was excellent! Wanted to rate it 2.5. We don’t feel we got good value for money at The Cromwell.
