Best Western The Cromwell
- What's Included
After hostel-ing around Europe for a month, I treated myself to a private room for the final night as I headed out to explore the West End of London. Beautifully close to the station, walking distance to a lot of things and simple but functional rooms with a comfy bed!
The hotel lived up to expectations. It was relatively basic but clean and comfortable. The location is excellent and within walking distance of the V&A and National Museums, Kensington High Street and Hyde Park. The London Underground was only 2 minutes walk away.
Great location.Hotel is average as almost all Best Western hotels, quite small rooms and nice breakfast. Hotel is bit pricey, worth staying if you get good rates. Only stayed couple of days, so small room was not a problem.
Probably the smallest hotel room I've ever stayed in within England, there was a very small amount of room which wasn't taken up by the bed. From my window on the lower ground floor I had a stunning view of a wall and a bucket outside. The inner window did not appear to close at all.I thought I had a good room as it was in a section all of its own, with no bedrooms either side and just a "Staff Only" room adjacent. While it was quiet in the evening, my hopes of a lie in where well and truly scuppered at around 5am and beyond where there was just constant noise, banging and loud talking, from what I can only assume were staff members given that no one would have any reason to walk past my room other than them. I kept trying to get back to sleep but was awoken by someone knocking at my door at 9am (probably trying to clean it?). I was only there for one night and check out is at 11, so I felt this was quite unnecessary and rude. The room was equipped with the basics you will need. Tea, coffee, kettle, hairdryer, soaps etcBreakfast was a decent selection of hot food, cereals, fruit etc.The hotel is situated practically across the road from the underground, so it's very accessible. There is a Tesco and a good few restaurants nearby, which you will need as there is an extremely limited menu at the hotel (basically sandwiches or lasagne). Overall, the hotel will meet your basic needs, but that's about it. I had a decent nights sleep, but a terrible morning lie in. Breakfast was ok, I had to source food elsewhere in the evening. My first hand experience with the staff at the desk was fine, but the disruption and noise from the ones in the morning was unforgivable.
Stayed in room 115 and on arrival it seemed lovely but there were multiple issues that spoiled the experience.1, balcony covered in cobwebs2, only a couple plug sockets work3, air con needs belts changed (it screams when on, I work in air con and is a 2 minute job)4, stain that looked like BLOOD on the curtain5, net curtain stained too6, screw sticking out of terrace door7, terrace light may as well not be there8, remote to tv doesn't work9, live electrical wires exposed next to curtains.Overall I wouldn't bother.
