Great location, rooms are well looked after, known the place since 1998, they make the effort to keep up with competitors and that's very much appreciated. I've stayed at High Holborn and Gloucester Road both well connected within walking distance to the underground.
Up in London for the weekend for some sightseeing and theatre, found the Citadines apart hotel in Holborn at a reasonable rate, so decided to try.Although not a large hotel with all the facilities in the scented sense, the hotel met if not exceeded expectations.Well situated a two minute walk from the underground station, it is fairly central for getting to most areas in London. It was easy to walk to Chinatown, Covent Garden and theatre land, but as always in London, readily accessible by public transport if needed.Rooms were modern in fitting, and included a small kitchenette which was a bonus.Although not ideal if you wanted a "conventional" hotel experience - no bar or restaurant, all these facilities were within just a few minutes of the hotel.A great idea if you need a base to stay and a bad, and staff were friendly and informative.Would certainly recommend and will use again in the future.
Considering other apartment hotels have used, my "studio" was disappointing. OK, it is central London and you will not find a better location, but in effect you have a not very large hotel room with ensuite and a tiny kitchenette offering two electric rings, a grill/microwave, sink and fridge.Yes, it is (just) enough to self cater for one person if that's what you want (though there are many interesting restaurants nearby too) and there is an excellent Sainsbury's or a smaller Waitrose right outside the door, but although you will find a full set of crockery - 4 plates, side plates, bowls and (small) cups - the cooking utensils leave a lot to be desired. A small saucepan and frying/saute pan is all you get. After a busy day at work, it's not at all a relaxing room to sit and watch TV with your dinner so if that's what you want to do, go for a larger suite! Will I go there again? of course, it's absolutely perfect for working in, or visiting this exciting part of the metropolis .. . .but next time I'll take a mug, a sharp knife and, maybe, a decent size saucepan with me!
The first challenge with this hotel is actually getting in. They keep the main door locked and with only one member of staff on reception dealing with a customer I had to wait outside until another customer with a key card opened the door that I could actually enter the place. Hardly good security as I could be anyone and not a customer. The lady who checked me in seemed interested in one thing - getting my credit card details. When I queried why as I had pre-paid she said it was for extra charges. I still have no idea of what these could be as I was not provided with any insights as to the things available that I might be charged for. I asked for a quiet room and was provided with one not facing the road which was good. The bed was comfy but the room felt rather 1970's. The small TV was on an un-moveable bracket on the wall - impossible to watch unless you squeezed into the little chair provided. The shower kept going hot and cold and the a/c wasn't cooling. I was in a bit of a hurry the next am. When I got down to the lobby I was people having breakfast. Nobody had pointed out to me that breakfast was available, nor what the options or charges were! I would have pointed out the issues with the room when I checked out but the guy on reception couldn't be bothered to ask if I'd enjoyed my stay. Convenient location but there are better hotels in the local area.
I was in London to perform with a West End show, and so the main priority for me was to have a room with a comfortable bed and not too much ambient noise in order to fully recuperate. For a hotel very close to Holborn tube station (a relatively busy area), I was very satisfied with the lack of street sound and the soft, comfortable beds. The room had two twin beds, a small kitchenette and a bathroom. It's a pretty small room, but for London it was what we expected. Given that we were staying for two and a half weeks, it would have been nice to have an oven in the kitchenette, but we made do with the two stove tops and the microwave. Bathroom wise everything was fine, except that the water temperature tended to fluctuate constantly during the shower. Sometimes ended up burning ourselves a bit.Cleaning of the room was done about twice a week, and was great. They were even nice enough to do some dirty dishes that were left on the counter, so really appreciated the service! We did run into some problems with regard to electricity and wifi. On two occasions we lost all power to the bedroom, and the wifi was a little intermittent on some days as well. If you're a really light sleeper, you might want to be a bit wary, as the walls are quite thin. Normal volume conversations can be heard very easily from an adjoining room, as we had hotel staff come up to tell us to quiet down at 11pm. Television was not on, and there was just a conversation between a few people, so gives you an idea of how sound travels through the walls. In terms of the other facilities, there is a laundrette and gym. The laundrette is ridiculously expensive. 5 pounds for a wash and 4 pounds for a dry. The gym is a typical small hotel gym, so provides the bare basics. In terms of breakfast, they charge 12 pounds for a simple continental breakfast, so I recommend just popping out and going to one of the many nearby cafés instead. All in all, a decent hotel that is close to the tube, a short walk from Covent Garden, Soho and West End theatres.
