Crowne Plaza London Kensington
- What's Included
My daughter and I stayed here for 6 nights over the Christmas holiday. Everything was perfect! I typically spend considerable effort reading hotel reviews and looking at maps and photos before I book a hotel. I had many points to redeem free nights at central Hilton and Marriott chains in London, but I chose Crowne Plaza because rates were reasonable, the pictures looked nice, and reviews were great. I was not disappointed at all. In fact, seeing how crowded that London was on the main shopping streets, I was glad to be a little out of the congestion in a beautiful location. Upon an exhausting flight from California to London, we were amazed at the ease to catch the Gatwick Express from the airport to Victoria Station, and easily transfer to the tube and arrive at Gloucester Station, right across the street from the Crowne Plaza. We checked into the hotel early and it was no problem getting a room. We were exhausted, but the receptionist kindly offered us an option to wait for a room with a king bed, and we comfortably waited in the lounge sipping tea and cokes with cookies. We waited no more than 30 minutes and I could not believe how large the bed was, even in American standards! The bathroom was spotless, extra towels, plenty of closet space and an efficient tea kettle stocked with everything needed to enjoy morning tea. The television was large and had sufficient channels, even Dance Moms, which happens to be my daughters favorite show. When traveling in Europe, I typically experience lower standards in service as compared to the U.S., but in this case everything exceeded my expectations. Kudos to the housekeeping service for many reasons. First, the room was spotless every day. Everything was completely re-stocked (cream, sugar, large fluffy towels, tissues, etc.) They gave me nothing to miss or complain about. They even left chocolate candies in our Xmas stockings. Yet, I never saw them once. They never knocked on our door to wake us up when we slept in, our alarm clocks were never accidentally set to wake us, or we never had to walk by their cleaning cart in the hallways. The luxury hotels of Las Vegas can learn something from the Crowne Plaza housecleaning crew! The front desk was extremely polite. I had multiple reservations which I combined, and they coordinated it with ease and professionalism. The concierge was helpful. The cocktail lounge was a great spot to relax in the evening with a delicious reasonably priced beer. We even ate Christmas Eve dinner there and enjoyed a delicious meal of appetizers and pizza. The surroundings of the hotel were perfect. You could walk directly across the street to a shopping market and mini-mall with a few restaurants. It is directly next to the Gloucester tube station which gets you everywhere. We bought the 7 day pass (kids 15 and under half price with parent) and it was well worth it. This also got us free on the double decker buses, which we rode around for the sightseeing fun. The Gloucester tube station is also across from an ice cream store and Starbucks, which my daughter still raves about. We purchased a day trip to Bath, Stonehenge and Windsor Castle from Evan Evans Tours. They made it hard to book because systems were down, and they didn't tell us Stonehenge would be closed on Xmas Eve, but Salvatore the tour guide made up for it and made the day perfect. Windsor, in particular, was beautiful. There is plenty open on Christmas day; however, we did learn the hard way that trains do not operate and we had to take an expensive taxi to the airport. No one in London seemed to know this, even the Gatwick Express office which sold us train tickets for Xmas Day, even though they did not operate that day. (That was our only negative experience.) We purchased the Original Hop On/Off bus pass and enjoyed the various bus tours along with the beautiful Thames River boat cruise. We enjoyed a day in Oxford with a walking tour we ran into along the path. We shopped at Harrods, a beautiful walk down the street. And after each long day, it was incredibly comforting to come back to a warm and very safe hotel. Thank you Crowne Plaza for a wonderful week in London. My daughter and I now want to make this our annual Christmas tradition!
We had a very nice stay at this hotel. The room was comfortable; the location was convenient to the National Geographical Society, where our conference met, and many museums, as well as the tube. There was no change in taking the tube from the airport. We got a free Independent every day. There was a lovely patio with a garden in the rear.
We spent three nights in December 2016, the hotel upgraded us from a King club room to a duplex suite which was a great surprise to us. The duplex suite was quite big with two beds including the sofa bed and it can fit many people in the room. On Christmas Day, we received a mini snack box from the hotel with chocolates and cookies inside which was quite sweet of them.Breakfast at the club lounge was delicious and the staff were very helpful and kind. We were allowed to even order food, one morning I was craving for pancakes for breakfast and I asked the staff for it, and she got me a plate of pancakes.Location wise, this hotel is quite convenient. It is only a few minutes walk to Gloucester station. Nearby there is Waitrose and Tesco for some last minute grocery. It is also only around half an hour walk to Harrods, Hyde park, walk a bit more and it's Mayfair. A really comfortable hotel, definitely recommending it to anyone.
Two of us stayed at the hotel in December 2016 for two nights. We arrived at the hotel at around 12:30pm on the Friday, check in is not available until 2:00pm so at first we were worried we would have to wait around but luckily our room was already ready. We were told we had been "upgraded" to a Club King Room from our Deluxe Double Room with Two Double Beds, which correct me if I'm wrong isn't an upgrade at all. We were then asked to make a payment that would not go out until we checked out. It was at this point that they took extra money off us "just incase we use the breakfast, dinner or bar facilities" which we knew was not going to happen as we had planned all meals in the city. We were told that if upon checkout we had not used these facilities we would get our "extra paid" money back. We then got to our "upgraded" room which was a lot smaller than the room we had booked originally, in the room we had been treated to one free bounty chocolate bar and free bottles of water. Everything else in the mini fridge you had to pay for. The view from the room was of the main road which personally I loved. We did not stay in the room that much during our stay. We slept well other than police sirens going off which is understandable with the hotel being on the A4. The bed was comfy and the cleaning staff did a good job.We checked out on the Sunday and having not used any of the facilities we paid our original bill, so we believed the "extra money" had been dismissed from the transaction. We got home and noticed the "extra money" had gone out of the bank account. We contacted the hotel on multiple occasions to try and get the money back but the customer service was awful. It took over a week after our departure for it to finally be retrieved. So overall I would probably stay here again, staff were friendly, it was a clean hotel. So as long as they don't take money I'm not going to spend on arrival and I don't get an "upgrade" I would be happy to return.
Spent just 1 night here on a mini break to theatre land. Hotel was quiet, comfortable and had a good atmosphere. Staff were attentive and helpful (albeit a little stressed at breakfast which was very busy) and always available.Really relaxing stay, we both slept very well - which we dont always at home - and felt refreshed. Hotel is in a great location for Harrods, Albert Hall and museums, well worth a vist!
