Fraser Place Queens Gate

My wife and I stayed in this small yet nice hotel for four nights over the Christmas period. While there was no housekeeping services on the Christmas Day, hotel staff were very helpful satisfying our various needs. The front office manager VJ served us well. The hotel is located in a nice area and close to public transport.
Stayed here for four nights after Christmas. We had two rooms - one 1 bedroom room and one 2 bedroom room. We had stayed here before two years ago and returned because our first stay was very good. A few years ago, I had not a single complaint about the hotel. It seems like in the intervening two years standards may have slipped a bit. On the good side, the location in South Kensington is perfect. A very short distance to the Gloucester Road underground stop, nearby grocery stores, pubs, restaurants, and close proximity to the V&A and Museum of Natural History. Also on the good side, the rooms are sizeable and comfortable. The rooms make for a great place to relax after a day in London. Our bathrooms were spacious and the rooms and bathrooms were generally clean. The housekeeping was also good and timely. Also, with a flight getting in from Washington DC at 6:30 a.m., we were very appreciative of being able to get into one of our rooms upon arrival (The other room wasn't ready until early afternoon, but still ahead of the published check in time. I don't have any problem with that). On the down side, the breakfast wasn't worth the extra money we paid each day on top of the room rate - especially with a Waitrose grocery store a short walk away. Now I understand European hotels don't have typical huge, fatty American breakfasts, but the fare here was pretty weak. And beyond that, it was poorly attended to and so picked over that it was difficult to get something at all. And when we tried to speak to the kitchen staff about anything (e.g., "There are no coffee cups. Can we get one?"), their English was so bad that they didn't seem to understand anything. Anyway, although we had prepaid for a meal each day, we ate only one breakfast at the Fraser Suites. We also had pretty much only luke warm water in our shower for most of our stay. I'll chalk that up to the fact that the hotel is in an old, quirky building that probably has old, quirky plumbing. But it was somewhat annoying. The heating system is also really quirky. We could never really tell if our heat was on or off. I guess also a lot of the place looks just a bit worm. Some peeling paint in the bathroom, walls that looked as if they needed painting, and just an overall look of needing some TLC. I certainly don't mean to imply that I thought it was dirty -- It wasn't. In fact, our bathrooms for example, were spotless. Just a general look that maybe it was time for a coat of paint on some things. Mattress also had a big, noticeable sag in the middle of it and clearly needed to be replaced. So I'm sure this review sounds nitpicky. It certainly wasn't a bad stay, but I didn't have my socks knocked off. And I was in London at the holidays, who could complain about that. If the Fraser Suites would up it's game a bit, this place could be perfect.
Stayed at Queens Gate in Nov 2016. I had booked and paid in advance for a 2 bedroom apartment. Upon my arrival, I was told I would be 'upgraded' to adjoining deluxe rooms, whatever that meant! As it was late in the evening, we agreed but when I was shown the room, I highlighted to the reception that there must have been some mistake as I had paid for a 2 bedroom apartment with separate living spaces. The following day, I was told that they were fully booked and were unable to allocate me a 2 bedroom apartment. This is incredible given that I had booked and paid in advance, apparently for something Fraser's was not even able to offer! If, at the point of my booking, no 2 bedroom apartments were available during the relevant time, Frasers should NOT have made me the offer. If, after having taken my booking AND payment, Frasers had taken on additional bookings and sold off my 2 bedroom, that also should not have happened. Very disappointed! I always try to stick to SIngapore brands but this recent experience has certainly left me with a bad impression. It is a real pity as I think some of the Frasers staff at this property were extremely helpful, especially when I checked in.
We spent two nights here with our young children. The room was freezing and we had to repeatedly call the reception for them to turn the heating on from the control panel. The front of house staff were unhelpful and acted like it was our fault! We repeatedly asked to speak to the manager who wasn't around. The rooms are also dated and not as clean as they should be. The heating units were covered in thick dust (see attached picture). Sad to see such a drop in standards from Fraser Suites. Avoid this place.
Stayed for a total of 11 nights. Room looks worn and not maintained. The floor produces squeaking sound when you walk on it. Soundproofing is bad. The bed mattress was sunken and woke up with a sore back the next day. No coffee machine provided. Housekeeping was erratic and always forget to replace items. Disappointed with the standard being my first stay in a Frasers property, could have stayed at a much cheaper property if Imhaf known this is the standard.
