Hilton London Metropole
- What's Included
This is a great hotel for a trip to London. The location is very convenient to visit London and the staff is exemplary. Everyone was very efficient and friendly. There are excellent dining options and a lovely bar with a great contemporary design.
In many respects, this is a great hotel. The common areas are very good and there are a number of dining options. Service was efficient and friendly....HOWEVER The bedroom I was given on 7th floor was not great. The bathroom was tiny and when I decided to have a bath, the water was short of being hot enough. Overall it was a small roomAlso we had a conference room which was OK but very expensive to hire a projector and have a coffee I think I got a deal on the room so for London at least it was decent value. If there was a 'good' category then that is what I would choose based on VFM but since it is not 'very good', it has to be average
I stayed here with my Wife for one night, in fact I write this from our room on the 12th floor. Our experience got off to a bad start. We checked in, we had booked a standard room. Standing at Reception as a clearly married couple, we took it for granted, perhaps stupidly, that we would get a Double Room, we didn't even mention it. Surely any good hotel receptionist would have known this? However, we opened the door to be greeted with Twin Beds. My Wife immediately called Reception, asking if it would be possible for us to be moved to a Double, they requested that we return to Reception to discuss. So, off we went with all our bags.Upon arrival at Reception, the staff member notified us that, yes, we could have a Double room, but for an additional premium of £20.Wait, what?! So, not only do they want to charge extra for a STANDARD room, they dragged us all the way down to Reception to tell us this. Firstly, why didn't the guy that checked us in point out that we had a Twin Room, but secondly why didn't they tell my Wife on the phone that the move would be chargeable? The room itself was mediocre, think Travelodge at best. Really. The carpets look old and worn. They are stained and really don't look good. The fixtures and fittings all make this look like a place that is long overdue renovation. The room was dark, with just a bedside light and desk lamp for lighting in the main part. In fact, I've stayed in far better Travelodges. So, we put the kettle on. I noticed that the Tea-cups were different sizes, one was a decent size, the other was quite small. We had requested some additional teabags, so when the staff-member brought the teabags, I asked her if she could bring me another large mug. She was gone for 15 minutes, taking our mugs with her and proudly returned with 2 identical mugs. Small ones. Really? Come on, this is basic stuff. We were there on a mix business and pleasure. There is a small desk, but it is glass topped, so doesn't work well for an optical mouse. The chair is more of a dining chair, you wouldn't want to work at the desk for long. I had back ache after an hour. There was no notepad/pen/pencil or any of the usual bits hotels usually leave as standard. It feels as though the staff here want to take any opportunity to charge for whatever they can. In fact, I could use a late check-out, but there's no point in even asking.I know it sounds like I'm bitter about the Twin Room, but I assure you this is an honest review with that issue aside. Good Customer Service costs nothing really.
Stayed with family who are regular guests here, I thought it was the ideal place for central London, easy access by road, on foot and the train and tube are only a short walk away. the room was ample and nice and clean. The whole hotel is clean, tidy and welcoming, as are the staff. I would stay here again!
It's not often I stay at any Hilton! But the minute you get inside the doors you see more opulence, and, my favourite part was the bar downstairs where I had my favourite tipple...sweet white wine!!! The room I had was great, not spacious, but I loved it. I also enjoyed the 24hr room service, yummy!
