- What's Included
A reasonably priced Hotel for London's West End. Within walking distance of the medical facilities of the area and for the retail therapy of Oxford Street. Comfortable, if fairly small, room with very small but adequate en suite. Everything worked including super TV.. Basement cafe/restaurant serving a reasonable evening menu and excellent breakfast. Smiling and helpful staff.
Where to start. First word; awful. Partially my fault I booked here as I'm in town on business with a boss keeping tabs on cost and the Langham was booked. But anyway, two hundred for one night through booking dot com (desk price is 170! Cheers booking dot com) checked in, rude staff. Entered room and immediately had flash backs of being trapped on a P&O ferry. So small and closely resembling the type of place you'd find yourself in if your luck had run out on skid row New York. Not to worry, just for one night. Went to get a drink from the bar, only to be told I had to carry my beverage AND QUE at reception to pay for it!? Strange but when I asked the reasoning behind this I was told the other option would be to have them hold fifty quid on my card for the night else I'd have to do this again and again. I decided to maybe eat elsewhere. After a short stroll I didn't have the energy to keep searching so I went back to the hotel and ordered from the bar. I opted to make my own pizza (not literally, but to choose 3x toppings. Which was a nice alternative to the two options already on the menu) after 25mins my food arrived resembling what can only be described as something even a poverty sticken first year art student would turn their nose up as they glance into the oven after forgetting for several hours that they'd put an infant size snack in on full heat. Burnt, not edible, though I'd agree great toppings but I chose these, and just awful in every other way. So categorically awful I just didn't have the energy to say anything. The rest of the stay followed the same pattern of events. Anyone wanting a tiny margin of comfort avoid this place like your life depends on it. Sorry for a rant but it's disgusting a major chain like this can operate such a shambles JUST because it's in central London. Pay the extra few quid and stay in a proper hotel people.
Stayed one night. A decent hotel for central London and you get what you pay for. The restaurant provided a good selection and breakfast was certainly worth having with plenty of choice. The room was very clean and tidy. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Would certainly use it again as it is a very good location and not too far from either Oxford Circus or Bond street tube station.
I just recently returned from a three night stay in this hotel, the hotel was in a good location and out room was very comfortable although the bottom floor room that we had faced onto a fire exit ladder, bins empty crates you name it,the cleaners and reception staffwhere excellent and very polite,we ate one night in the hotel and never enjoyed the food it also had a poor selection for a holiday inn menu, while sitting on the couch on your right when you enter the hotel into the lobby on our second night my girlfriend drew my attention to the squeaking coming from around the radiator at the couch ..it sounded like a pet shop ! we quietly let the man serving at the bar know about the mice and he informed us that they where aware of it and had people in trying to deal with the rodents a week or so ago,he said that he would inform someone that they are still there and left to report it (I believe) I never felt very food knowing that we had eaten there and quite frankly should the place be closed until it's been sorted? I left two stars because the staff where helpful
Stayed two nights after an 8 hour flight from Atlanta. I arrived 2 hours early for normal check in time. The front desk accommodated me quite happily. Super friendly staff at the reception greeted me and made me feel welcomed. The appearance was fresh and clean at the reception desk and the adjacent sitting area and bar. No ramp to use to pull your luggage up so had to lift up four to five steps from street level. Ok for me but may not be too enjoyable experience for a lady. Older hotel but well maintained. One lift (Elevator) only so sometimes had to wait two to three minutes. Rooms are typical European small but functional and clean. Carpet was fairly new and observed it to be vacuumed daily. Even hallway carpet was well vacuumed by the staff daily. Bathroom was bright and clean. Shower well maintained and very hot water with strong flow. Staff does maintain a very clean bathroom and I was quite happy about that. Water, bottled juice and packaged cookies are complimentary and a welcomed treat. Air conditioning was a bit strong even on the lowest fan setting. Had to turn off to warm up after a while. Breakfast is the typical English style in a buffet style. Decent assortment of fruits, cereals breads and hot prepared foods. Didn't care for the scrambled eggs as they were very loose and watery. But opted for pre-prepared fried eggs. Would have much more appreciated an egg station for omelettes or fresh fried eggs. All food was hot and appealing otherwise. Staff kept everything freshly filled and clean. Table setting was nice and utensils were, again, clean. No lipstick on glasses and coffee cups. No water spots on flatware. Only ate breakfast but did hear other guests comment about the dinner fare as being reasonable and good. Hotel accommodated a late checkout to 1:00pm which is always appreciated so I can get some work done in the room. Had to print a ten page document during my stay. The front desk clerk offered to print for me either by flash drive of by emailing to him. No charge for this service. He dropped what he was doing to serve me. Excellent treatment of a guest. Check out was a breeze and my staff person wore a "trainee" badge. She was excellent and very efficient. I would recommend this hotel to any US visitors as a comfortable home away from home.
