Nice hotel, great location, not meant for business travelers

Located about a 3 minute walk from the Kensington High Street tube station, its in a great location for this part of London. The hotel is very nice and clean with a large bar area and a coffee shop that serves Starbucks in the lobby. Unfortunately I was here for business and the rooms are small with NO desk to work at. If you are a larger guest you might also have some trouble in the bathroom as its also very small, all be it laid out well. The other challenge I had was the complimentary wifi is very slow and the signal in my room was poor. You can pay for premium internet which isn't a lot but once you pick the complimentary wifi it is very hard to then go back and upgrade. I spent my time in the lobby at the Starbucks with the faster internet :-) The breakfast is nice. (Make sure included in your rate when booking although you can buy it at a discounted rate when you check in). Staff are very friendly and helpful. The bar area is also nice for an end of day drink. I am not sure I would come back here if I had to work, but certainly it I was a tourist I wouldn't hesitate if I wanted to be in the area.

And this was a Superior Kingsize???

Although the hotel itself was fine, the room I was given which was supposed to be a Superior Kingsize was not only basic, but so small.Upon entering the room, I found a small table, not the 'desk' as described in the literature. The gap between the base of the bed & wall (which had the tea/coffee shelf & wall mounted TV) meant I had to wriggle my way to the other side.On checking my bill this afternoon I also realised I had been over-charged, so will be calling them later.

Missing on the detail

Like all Holiday Inn's it has a good cleanliness and is genuinely a good hotel. But they differ in detail. This one missed the fact there was a long queue for check in and only one person on duty. There were four on the concierge desk, doing nothing including what appeared to be the manager. It also took two days to get as bulb fixed. Good bar staff though, and not a bad ambience for a moderately new hotel.

Average - small room

I visited here with my partner for his 40th birthday. I chose the hotel for its good name reputation and location in London. Check in was easy and efficient. Our room was on the third floor and lift and stairs all easy to find. The double standard room was tiny, it felt like a shoe box. A little disappointing when it was for a special birthday. However it was clean and did what we wanted as we weren't there much. Tea and coffee facilities were provided on a pull out tray which was not very easy to pull out and very cramped. Enough tea coffee and milk for the first night but not replenished which was a bit mean. We didn't use the parking as it was cheaper to park at the Copthorne which is just next door. The main reception areas were all presented well, the swimming pool etc were £5 extra per day which again I think was just tight. This is a bigger hotel and they behave like one. There are no additional touches or niceties. Having said that when we were out all day, it did what we wanted. There was hot water when we wanted it and air con.
